Nexus 4 crashed and won't turn on again

So my phone just died… Was just using it, put it down and came back to it and the screen is black! Definitely not due to an uncharged battery… Anyone have any ideas why and how I can fix it?

  • And, suggestions for a replacement phone, asap that I could buy at a store?

    • A Motorola G 2nd Generation or the older Moto G 4G variant. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/motorola-moto-g

Both will be good replacements for your Nexus 4.

As for the dead nexus, you can either attempt to self repair it (follow iFixit guide or watch Youtube) or go to a phone repair shop.

Most likely, it's probably a dead battery, or it may be corrosion of certain parts (e.g when exposed to moisture or sweat) Spare parts are available on Aliexpress or ebay.

      • I will keep an eye out for deals… Thanks for the suggestion, scrimshaw.

Press and hold down the power button and the volume down button (or is it the volume up button, I can never remember) and keep them held down until the phone resets.

    • OMG… it's coming alive… Volume up button… Stay tuned

    • Thank you so much!!

Yeah happened to my Nexus 4 every other day since the Lollipop update. Sometimes it stops being responsive when I sleep (so I miss the alarm). Sometimes the screen will just go blank in the middle of typing. Force shut-down and then power up is always required. Very frustrating.

I wonder whether a factory reset would fix the issue.

    • I've got a 4 and 5 but when lollipop 5.01 finally came out I did a full wipe and upgrade and both have been 99% fine, minor bugs but nothing warranting a flash back to kitkat.

I did full wipes because I just don't think the OTA method is as good.

  • still under warranty?(2years)

    • No. Think we're coming up to 2.5 years.

      • Actually, it's only about 18 months… Checked my invoice. If it dies in the next six months I will have to look into a claim… Reset has worked so far. I've had to do it again since I started this post.

    • So warranty on Nexus 4 was 2 years? Mine has decided to stop working about 18 months after purchase. Rang Google and while pleasant and trying to be helpful, nothing they suggested fixed it. Next stop is LG customer service
