  • I am waiting for S6 to come out. This should go down even further. Or perhaps S6 for another $7-8 on this plan?

  • Does anyone know How much the S5 handset repayment was at launch on the $60 plan. I don't think it was more that $5 hence the save $120. Still a thumbs up from me.

    • @El Grande. Optus states that the repayment for the S5 on this plan used to be $5 a month for the 24 month contract, thus we have our $120 saving.

I remember when there was no such thing as a "handset repayment" - the plan encompassed all of it, period. You want the LATEST Nokia 8xxx series phone? You're gonna need an 80 to 120$ plan.
There was no "it's only a 45$ plan!" (small writing : plus $10 per month handset repayment) what!

      • +1

Now the plans are standardised, the $45 plan is the same across all their phones, want a better/more expensive phone? add on a cost to that, but the base plan is the same.

I prefer it this way, it makes comparing plans easier, plus they advertise the whole cost and just break it down in the details.

Kogan just now sold about 1000 S5's on ebay for $459, i think the market will be pretty saturated for S5.

      Samsungs worst phone.

      • -2

And I guess you think ipoo is the best phone?

        • +2

Ahaha christ the internet is stupid.
Someone has the ability to use criticial thinking, therefore must be anti-company.
I said SAMSUNGS worst phone, I din't say "Samsung make the worst phones"
The S5 was a sales failure, mediocre specs, just a disaster of a phone.

        • FWIW: I own an S3, had an S2, S4, S3 and would consider an S6

          @hamwhisperer:
Then you need to put an apostrophe in (ie. Samsung's). And maybe to have opened the comment with "I feel that this was…", and then the internet may have understood! ;)

        • @Snoop: I'm terrible with apostrophe's I have no idea when to use them. I really need a guide :/

Not even close to a deal

  • +3

"Minimum total cost over 24 months is $1440". That phone can be had for $450 outright. Which leaves $1000 for just the phone service from Optus for 2 years. No deal.

    • +1

I've never seen a deal for a mobile plan that comes with a phone. It's always more expensive than buying the phone outright and getting an equivalent phone plan. I personally feel that these are for people who just don't have the ability to save for the phone outright so requires a payment plan, much like lay-by.

      • +1

Or impatient people, though obviously not for this deal, but sometimes when a phone is just released, shops refuse to sell it to you outright.

      • I disagree. Can you point me to a 4G prepaid with atleast 2.5gb data and unlimited calls which will work out cheaper with this phone? PS I can get further $10 off as I have cable with them bringing total plan cost to $1200. Less cost of phone $459. To break even it will have to be $30.875 or cheaper.

        • galaxy S5 @ Kogan for Sydney delivery $579 + $23
vaya power plan 27 for $27 per month (That's 2.5G every month, not just the first month!)
          Together for 24 months that's $579 + $23 + ($27 x 24) = $1250
          Optus deal is $60 x 24 = $1440

That's from 2 minutes of searching the first thing that came to my head. Yes it is cheaper if you bundle cable with it but only by $50 but with my combination you're not tied down for 2 years.

        • @aaronbaron:

Does VAYA offer 4G? It doesn't say anywhere it does. What's the point of having data if you cannot use it.

2 Years Australian Warranty with the handset from Optus (I get this with Vodafone on contract, pretty sure its for all telcos).

Many Ozbargainers like me signed up on the $90 Unlimited bundle and if so it they will get further $10 off this plan making it only $50.

I forgot unlimited calls on the Optus.

        • @El Grande: Yeah, Vaya is a reseller of Optus 4G.

Depends on your personal usage, the power plan 27 to me is pretty much like unlimited calls and text.

My original comment was more a general comment about getting a phone packaged with a mobile plan rather than this plan specifically.

      • For light users the S4 is $25 per month including the $10 credit. 300 minutes, 500Mb, unlimited sms. Great deal.

    • where can you buy an oz stock s5 for $450 please let me know so i can buy one

      • There'll be heaps around soon. S6 is out next month!

        • can you send me some links cause i cant find it for that price any where

          kogan is $579

        • @honkyb:
          No problem at all… SOON!

  • Pro Tip: Never sign up to a plan on a 24 month plan unless you want to have an outdated phone for another 12 months.

  • Like others have said, think I'll wait just that little bit for the S6.
