Searching for a new ISP

A friend of mine has moved into a new rental and they have never had the need for internet at home..
Today, they contacted me and and asked for some advice as their house mate needs to get it for Uni.

Problem is I'm so out of the ISP game, it's been years and years since I have even looked at ISPs
I'm not sure what advice to give them?

What I do know is..

They are Located on the God Coast (Runaway Bay)
Do not have a land line
Do Have Foxtel (Cable I think?)
Want to spend up to Max $70 a month
12 month plan is ok, Not 24 month
Do not have A router etc

Not Sure how much usage they will use, They asked if 50GB a month was ok?
I looked at my stats and since Signing up to Netflix i'm using 13GB A Day :O :O .. So I imagine they would do 1GB a day??

  • Do they have a line going into the house & it is not connected?

    iinet??

This may go close, but they will need their own modem/router on a 12 month plan.

Here are a list of a few I usually found Netgear to be the best, & most reliable.

Also Netflix is quota free on selected iinet plans.

  • I would suggest Exetel $40 per month ADSL with 100GB including line rental. Never had an issue with it, always fast. There is a connection fee.

I bought a Netgear N300 off Gumtree for $15. It hasn't failed after being continuously on for Over 18 months.

Also picked up a junk Telstra phone from the 90s for the landline. Was free and doesn't need mains power like cordless phones do.
