One Way Flight for 5 Pax to Europe in January

Hello all ye OzB travel gurus!

  • I plan to set off on an adventure from Sydney in January 2016 with 4 friends (5 total pax, aged 23-25. Any time of the month is good).

  • I am looking for the cheapest passage to Europe/UK (anywhere in the continent will do).

  • Happy to stopover (1-2 days, as opposed to 4 hours would be good) anywhere.

Any help/advice re: routes, sales, etc. will be greatly appreciated, Cheers.

NB: Return tickets are not suitable for this adventure; not even if there's a fire!

I recommend a Stop over in Abu Dhabi / Dubai. It will be "winter" but still really nice weather. Abu Dhabi is a interesting place to see somewhere that has really grown massively (from a desert to a populated city in a very short period of time). Dubai is a similar city you can get from one to the other easily.

As for sales are you a student?

Start looking for fares/sales around June

    • Just joined the LMTC, cheers for the heads up!

Not a student, under 26 though, if it matters anymore.

Thank you for your recommendations of Dubai/Abu Dhabi (definitely will consider), and the sale time of June (I have no idea of such times and was actually wondering).

      • Can't guarantee there will be sales but that was when I got my tickets for Europe travel last year and is when typically end of year deals are released.

STM I believe does student / under 26 tickets still so perhaps give them a call or have a look at their website…

It can be cheaper to book return flights?

Here's some skyscanner searches to give you a starting point:

SYD to UK in January 2016: http://www.skyscanner.com.au/transport/flights/syd/uk/cheape…

    Amsterdam:
    http://www.skyscanner.com.au/transport/flights/syd/amst/chea…

    France:

I suspect there will be one or more sales that get posted on Ozbargain that can make it even cheaper than the results above. Currently looks like $700 to London via Manila (with 39 hour layover) is cheapest.

How about getting one of those Cebu Pacific flights to Manila which will probably save even more?

    • Not even if there's a fire inherentchoice. Haha. It is an open ended trip, it is planned to go on for a few years. I was thinking date change costs etc. might negate savings. What do you think?

Thanks a bunch for these links! They are much help.

Also, yes, I would not mind a stint in the Philippines, and low cost carriers are great.
