ANZ Reduce QFF Points Earning on Visa (again)

So I received a nice letter from ANZ today that Visa earning rates on my QFF car is being chopped from 0.75 points per dollar to 0.50. Grrr. This is after a not too long ago chop from 1.0 points down to 0.75.

They love to note in the letter that Amex is now a whopping 1.5 points per dollar but for me it's rather useless as 75% of my spend has to go on Visa due to most retailers and utilities not taking Amex.

I get these credit cards free as part of my home loan package, so there's little value in cancelling them. So should I simply just sign up to a better points earning Visa card at another bank and put all my expenses on that?

What's the best card deal with $0 annual fee for Qantas points but with a Visa/MC 1:1 points earning ratio? The only one I could find here was Citibank? Are any of the major banks doing a 1:1 ratio for Visa or MC QFF points?

Cheers bargainers!

  • I think maybe the Woolworths Everyday card is still 1:1? I still have the Citibank Citibusiness Gold Visa which still gives 1.25 points per $1. You could try calling them about this product?

  • ANZ has history on this, some accountant gets a great idea to save money and cuts the rewards, then 5-10 years later some marketing dweeb gets the innovative idea, that they will get extra business by introducing rewards. Its the ANZ card cycle.

Smart consumers realise this and avoid ANZ cards at all times, its not worth the bother

  • Since you are going to keep the ANZ card anyway, why not ask them to upgrade it to ANZ Black which has 0.75 points per dollar. It's not 1:1 but it's an improvement. I assume your under the Breakfree package in which case you can get any of the ANZ cards (including Black) for no cost.

Source: I just upgraded my ANZ Rewards Platinum to ANZ Rewards Black under the Breakfree (for my situation the Rewards is far better than the QFF points)
