What Is The Current Best Surround Sound Speakers under AUD $1000 in Australia?

I have been searching the web for the best surround speakers in Australia under AUD $1000 for a while but fruitless. Cnet.com.au says Take Classic 5.1 Home Theater System is the best but I couldn't find any store selling it. I have Oppo BDP-103 player and Sony STRDN850 7.2 Channel AV Receiver, all am missing is surround speakers and my budget is AUD $1000. What kind of speakers do you guys think can fit my budget and still be worthy having them? I would really appreciate for your advice!

Cheers

Under 1k? DIY or used setup is the way to go IMO. Are you sure you need 5.1? An awesome set of 2.1 speakers will sound a lot better than a good 5.1 setup unless you watch a lot of movies.

    • I love documentaries and music and I thought 5.1 speakers can serve me better. Can the 2.1 speakers do well in a larger room?

Documentaries and music are exactly why you want 2.1 speakers. You're only getting 2 channel audio anyway.

2.1 can be amazing in a large room. Fewer bigger, more powerful speakers will sound a lot better than multiple, cheap small speakers. I recommend hunt around for some good bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer to go with it. If you want new speakers, the MicroLab 9C gets pretty rave reviews for the price.

Buy used Australian-made speakers. Aaron speakers, in particular, can be found for ridiculously little money.

Aaron speakers are excellent value. I've owned mine for 17+ years and haven't missed a beat (no pun intended)

Maybe something like this accusound set should do the job just fine. Perhaps not the absolute best setup ever but unless you're a wanke- sorry, "audiophile", you'd struggle to notice the difference (in fact, I'd wager that most "audiophiles wouldn't be able to tell the difference between these and a several thousand dollar set in a blind test).
