End of Maintenance Period-New House

I recently moved in my new home and now the 90 days maintenance period has finished.

My posting is more of reminding peer Ozbargainers about what to look at for a new house.

There were a few issues but nothing serious like this man: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195412#comment . He has my blessing.

I had issues with skylights-they came off the ceiling twice in 2 month. From time to time the front door is hard to open. The good news is my builder is very responsive so far and they have helped me a lot during my purchase. They even allowed me to move in before settle (I paid rent, but still). I have faith with them.

Anyway I had an inspector to look at the house as I know nothing about buildings. He found a few more issues, including something in the roof about works affecting fire ratings. Now the report has been submitted to the builder and they will walk through with me next Tuesday morning 8 am (i know they are very considerable).

Finger crossed my things will be sorted. I hope my story could be my builder to help his customer.

I will post updates

  • By law, any structural defects/issues in the house must be fixed within the first 5 years of the home being built and any aesthetic defects/issues within the first 2 years.

You're terms - aesthetic and structural - are not helpful

Building defects must be identified and compensation sought within two years.
Flaws that make a building uninhabitable or likely to collapse can be classified as a "major defect". There is a six year warranty for major defects.

When new laws, passed in September last year, come into effect
