MalwareBytes has posted a workaround to prevent people from abusing this bug in IOS, by disabling alerts style notifications.

BTW If a "friend" did that - I'd say it was plain mean and for what benefit. I wouldn't dump my phone, I'd dump my "friend" and maybe something more physical if I saw them!

I haven't seen the fix on the Apple KB, it hasn't been posted when I delivered this PSA
I heard that and thought, I wonder who finds these bugs. These strings don't look like it's going to be used a lot in messages or texts, I think at least.
