  • I am currently in chat with optus to change my plan to this and probably i can get all this for $40 because i have optus Big Home bundle too. which would be greate bargain specially if you compare with optus $45 Sim only plan. I can get double of all that with cheaper price.

  • +5

Pretty good deal mate! unfortunately, I have poor Optus reception near my house and work… For those that can't be with Optus due to poor reception though, you can consider the following.

    1) Vodafone 30% off $50 Red sim only (existing customers ends tomorrow 2/6) - if you're not a member now just get a cheap prepaid and it should work, this trick worked for my friend. [Source]
    2) Get the $30 mobile broadband with double data which works as shared plan according to someone associated with Vodafone, that totals to 8GB for the mobile broadband. (Up to 24mths) [Source]

As this works as a shared plan, you get a total of 11GB of data plus unlimited talk and txt with 300mins internation for $65. Downside is you have to be with Vodafone.

    • +1

in terms of optus reception, it is well worth making sure that you have a phone that can do the full range of LTE frequencies, including and especially LTE band 28. Most of the newest smartphones (eg iPhone 6) can do all of them.

(note: voice over LTE isn't switched on yet so if you have band 28 coverage only you will get data and no voice for the time being)

    • +2

Have just switched from Vodafone to Optus (to this deal) and have actually found both reception and speed have dropped. Who would've thought..

      • You just wait till everyone else gets theirs, and the Netflix. It's gonna turn to shight just like the optus cable network has

        • I don't think it would change much even with netflix… I remember reading that Netflix will only be unmetered for home broadband.

      • Vodafone's speed have dropped a lot as well if you ask me… I used to get 40mbps and above, now I'm only getting 10mbps at best… down speed of course… uploads seem to be unchanged…

  • I have just changed my plan on optus chat now i will get 8GB Data plus unlimited calls and mins plus international mins and sms too all for $40.

Anyhow for all the users who already have $60 Sim Only Plan and have Optus Broadband as well they can use the following link to upgrade their plan.

thanks @ProjectZero as i had really really bad experience with Vodafone in pasd had to cancel with their plan and gone to ombudsman and than all this vodafail started.

It used to be no signal if i am inside the home on vodafone i used to come outside on road to take a call or make a call called them many times no solution end up cancelling the service and taken them to ombudsman as they charged me for SMS which were never delivered and calls which were never made successfully becuase when i was inside the home i was trying to call and calls were dropped immideately after the connection and i was charged.

After that once i tried to come on board when they launched 4G but due to some reason they always put me on "Credit Not Approved".

Nice - I was on the $45 per month with 3GB and just upgraded to this online, very easy. Thanks OP!

Edit: 3 months Netflix too, does anyone know if that can be added to an existing account?

    • Yep, the Netflix code can be applied to existing accounts.

      • +1

        Thanks fryandlaurie :)

      • I imagine that this would only be the case for accounts billed in Australia?

  • +5

Temped to ditch telstra encore 3.8gb for this. Prefer telstra for coverage, but double the data for the same price…

    • I'm on the same boat!!! Arg just stocked up those $1 sim card :(

      8GB is really tempting :(

      • +1

4gb is enough for me, however 8gb is really tempting, but it is nice having telstra coverage when all the optus and vodafail drop out.

        • +1

I found it nice having both. I found plenty of places where I lose telstra but still get optus.

    • Beauty of this deal is you can ditch the Telstra for this deal and after a month if you dont like come back to Telstra as no lock in contract its SIM only deal plus Bonus Netflix.

      • The Telstra plan is now discontinued, this could only be done if you didn't port your existing number to Optus.

  • +1

Signed up online by upgrading current number. But it says $50/month instead of $40/month (I have cable broadband with them).

    PLAN PAYMENTS
$60 My Plan Plus SIM Only MONTHLY $60
NETFLIX OFFER: INCLUDES 3 MONTHS' NETFLIX
    $10 DISCOUNT - ONLINE ONLY
    CHECKOUT SUMMARY
    $10 BROADBAND DISCOUNT MONTHLY -$10
    TOTAL MONTHLY $50
Min. Total Cost $50 over 1 month

Does any one else with cable broadband have this showing instead of $40?

    • I had exactly the same thing. Let's wait and see

    • It does say down the bottom they will need to verify your broadband discount, so maybe this is why its showing $50 instead?

    • i think its fine.
i bought iPhone 5c for my dad. originally $40/month, comes down to $30/month with bundle, however the contract still said min cost $960 (40*12). i asked the coworker why, she said incase you cancel your home broadband.

  • Is the $10 discount for the life of the plan as long as you sign up before 5 July?
Or will you have to go back to paying $60pm after that date, even if you sign up now?

    • +2

      Yes, to your first question.

      • Cheers!

    • life of the plan.

  • +1

The plan is very tempting if you can get the extra $10 off for having home services with Optus.

I am on the discontinued Telstra Pre-paid plan where you can spend your credit on data packs and Google Play, worth losing it for this?

    • +1

I'm the same as you. Usually spending only $30 a month, but $40 with 8gb data is tempting.

    • +1

I am in a similar boat as you. Really cant decide whether it's worth losing the discontinued Telstra pre-paid forever.

So with the Telstra prepaid you get the improved coverage (not tested by me), spend your credit on data packs, spend your credit on apps/rentals/books, discounted Village movie tickets (I use this every month).

With this Optus prepaid I could get a crap load of data, I can data share this with other devices (like a cellular tablet), discounted Hoyts tickets (much prefer Village), possibly reduced cellular coverage or speeds all for about $10 or so more than what I spend with Telstra.

      Tough choice.

      • You could probably buy a Telstra Pre-paid SIM and never top it up, to still take advantage of the cheap tickets. Not sure how often you have to top-up, before the service is disconnected.

        • +1

If you choose Telstra long-life, then it's six months until it expires. It also sticks around in "my account" for six months after expiry, presumably so you can recharge and get the number back. Not sure if you can use it when it has expired but is still listed under my account. So, I think you can get at least 6 months and maybe 12 months access, out of Telstra pre-paid SIM pack.

      • Was there an ongoing fee to share data? I could get rid of my amaysim which I'm using for my iPad. That will save another $10

        • Only an initial $5 fee for the SIM card.

  • +3

Wow, nice, leaves Amaysims 7Gb plan for dead. Love me some umlimited calls!

  • +1

FYI - Live chat couldn't change to this plan (you need to buy the plan and select to keep your existing number). They also said that the 3 months Netflix is only for new customers

    • …though the website terms say the 3 months Netflix it's available for existing customers so we'll have to see what happens.

    • I wouldnt believe the Live Chat people. I just signed up as an existing customer and in the confirmation, it states:
" We'll send you a personalised link via email, SMS or letter to claim your Netflix voucher online after your service is activated. Find out more at optus.com.au/Netflix"

    • I did this with Optus chat before posting. With Optus chat what they do is just simply apply another $10 discount on your account. otherwise you can do this by the link provide above.

Note: This new rate will start from your Next Billing Cycle so if you are in the middle of the month change wont appear on your account untill you complete this monthly cycle.

      • My live chat also said they couldn't do it.

Be aware there are two "tabs" on the page where you select your plan - one for new customers and one for existing.

I chose the existing tab and got order confirmation by email including the free Netflix. Says it will be processed within a day.

This was a no brainer for me - $5 extra for an extra 4Gb plus 300 mins of international calls plus the free Netflix trial.

  • Yeah itsh showing $10 off on the front page, but not on checkout

    • +1

I had the same experience. When I purchased the sim, the cost came out to $60 (instead of $50). I have since spoken with their Live Chat support and they have advised me that the bill will change over the next 10 days to the intended online price of $50.

      • so do we buy at $55 and then we are reimbursed the $10???
unsure of porting over if this will be an issue down the line!

  • The netflix not unmetered then?

  • Can anyone confirm it is $40 if you have Optus Broadband?

    • Yeah cause its not applying the initial $10 off in the checkout. Only the $10 off from having broadband.

  • I have optus cable broadband but am in the process of ditching it. Do I loose the extra $10 discount if I stop having cable with them?

    • Yes you will a friend of mine did this and he lost the discount and getting charged back to normal price.

    • can confirm what others have said…. you will lose the discount after a month or so.

BUT signup now and get the discount for a month or two anyhow

  • +3

Optus and Voda are really turning up the heat on Telstra - the big T is looking very expensive right now.

    • +3

      always expensive

  • +1

The closest thing that Telstra has to this is the $70 casual plan (introduced earlier this month) which provides you unlimited calls and text to Aus numbers (minus some specific service numbers) and 6GB of data. Telstra is getting a bit more competitive than previously (but still expensive in comparison). So I guess it comes down to whether you value coverage more than additional data, international minutes and netflix.

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates#gom…

  • I called Optus prior to doing the online form and they confirmed $10 off for Home Broadband people which is myself, when i completed the form online it still went down to $50 only.. But they said just to call once the service is activated and they can fix it up if it doesn't show correctly.

The online form does also mention it should go to $40 so i doubt there will be any problems.

    • Optus confirmed the same to me, as well as data sharing being allowed on this plan, which is a big plus over Telstra.

  • I am on this plan and since last 20 days watching netflix on my ride to work and home so far have completed 4 movies and 2 episodes of a TV show and only consumed 4 GB of data to my surprise. I think optus charge data in kb is really good for data hungry devices. Previously i was on Optus daily Plus and used to get 500MB data but very easly consumed up.

I think optus charge data metering differently for prepaid and billing customers.

  • Anyone have experience porting number to Optus - how long it is normally? Mine with Vodafone atm and my contract will expire in 2 weeks. Thinking to get this and porting out my number.

    • My mate just switched from virgin to optus, and they promised for a 24hr switch over, but the new sim didnt get activated 'till after 48hrs. Could vary?

      • Virgin uses optus network and optus to. Optus will always takes longer.
I went from telstra to. Optus and it was less than an hour.

        • Porting internally takes longer as it is all paper based.

Porting between different carriers is near the two hour mark as it is done all automatically online.

  • This is such a good deal! I am currently on the $30 ($20 after discount) but 1gb is quite low. The good thing about Optus is that you can have all the family data pulled together, so for example if you sign up for an 8gb plan and my current plan, then you and your partner/child etc can share the Internet. So for me would be $70 for unlimited calls and sms and 9gb of Internet to be shared between two sims. You can also add sims for tablets (sharing the 9gb or whatever you have), paying a one off fee of $5

  • See you in 4 months Optus! Just bought the Amaysim offer from groupoun this weekend for the next 3 months. Still using Lebra 4gb offer for $15 for the first month.

  • Wow very happy boost unlimited user here but since I have an optus bundle at home this really tempting.

  • Are 13 numbers included in the unlimited calls?

    • +2

Calls to 13/1300 and 1800 numbers are included.

      • Thanks for reply, also is this month by month or contract term

        • +1

          No contract.

        • month to month

    • according to the PDF file its unlimited.

Sigh choices. Telstra Encore or Optus. I really do love the prepaid credit.

  • +2

Thanks OP! Just got Vodafone to match this offer :)

    • How did you manage to get them to match it? They denied it for me. Are you already with Vodafone?

      • I was paying $50 with Voda for:
        - 300 international mins
        - 3 GB data
        - unltd call + text

I told them I was planning on moving to Optus, and they said they didn't want to lose a customer. Transferred to Aussie team - the rep told me she would be giving me Voda's $60 SIM only plan at a $10/month reduction, for one year only (I didn't want to sign a contract). Will re-negotiate/re-evaluate at the end of that year.

Maybe try your luck with another rep?

        • PS. The $60 SIM only plan with Voda normally comes with 4GB data but she gave me double data - 8GB.

  • I am on a contract with Optus and pay more than that for less. Optus always screws contract customers. Great deal though for people who have not Optus coverage issues.

    • Contact Optus and ask. They will usually upgrade for no fees unless there are handset payments on the old deal.

  • -6

international minutes can be used for only certain countries - vodafone we can use for any country

    • Vodafail getting jealous ……………..

    • Good job I don't call Turkmenistan very often then.

    • It would still be a good deal if there weren't any international minutes included, I doubt your Vodafone plan includes 8GB of data for $40 - $50 per month.

      • 11 GB for $35

  • Does this include 4g coverage??

    • Yes

    • Depending on your area - check the coverage.

  • +1

OK I gave in. $40/month here and one $5 to get a shared data only sim sealed the deal. Oh and 3 months free Netflix :)

    • only $40 if you have optus broadband at home.

  • +2

Rang vodafone and they matched this. Happy with voda service so i stayed. Thanks OP.

    • What plan alwere you on and how much are you paying now after matching. I'm on $50 plan but paying $35/after discount.

    • Retention Team said NO to me and instead offering $35 for 3GB or $45 for 9GB but on 24 months contract. Seems it is very inconsistent between team member.

  • unless you have optus broadband to get the extra $10 discount, you should be using this link to change plans

    https://offer.optus.com.au/offlineform/?handset=BYO-NoSIM&pl…

  • Optus international minutes are only for a limited number of countries.

  • +1

Can you share the data with other sim cards from this one?

    • Yes you can share up to 5 devices. Just pay $5 per sim one off.

      • Can you share with other phones or just tablets?

        • +1

You can put the SIM card in a mobile, though it will only be good for data.

  • +1

Does the $10 broadband discount only apply to one person in the household?

    • Yes so far that is what optus states in the terms and conditions you can try might work for more than one but So far that is what optus says One discount per Address.

  • Just moved from my parents and they have the broadband bundle. Is it possible to still get the $10 discount?

    • +1

Yes if you provide same billing address as the broadband and there is no other discount already on the package.
