  • It's 3:26…now I have to wait for tomorrow. :(

  • +4

Sounds too good to be true
I wonder how long it will last … Might end up to be an OZB daily meet up

  • +1

As i knew u need to come before 3pm. They only agree to give u free when your order been placed before 3pm. If u come aroubd 2.54pm and u have to wait 6 minutes on queue to be serve and someone u take ur order at 3.01pm u will have to paid for it. Very sharp

I used to have Gloria Jeans coffee often with friends and it was a reliable place to get a decent coffee. Not sure if it was just in my area, but they seemed to change the coffee last year or the year before, and it became undrinkable. I tried three different branches where I went regularly, but suddenly they all tasted terrible. Quite a few friends commented on how bad it was, and we all stopped going. I'll try this free one and see if it's improved.

EDIT - I hadn't read the writing above the image before, but after rotating it 90 degrees I noticed "We're celebrating Sereno Blend's 2nd Birthday" which coincides with when the coffee became undrinkable. I wasn't imagining it, they did change the coffee! Thanks anyway OP, but I won't be trying this… yuck!

    • +1

We're celebrating Sereno Blend's 2nd Birthday" which coincides with when the coffee became undrinkable

probably when they started putting Jesus in the blend…

    • +1

Actually, its an optional blend, medium roast compared to their regular dark, I had it the other day - seemed ok but I'm no coffee snob.

    • QSR Media: What inspired your brand to come up with this kind of blend?

Gloria Jean’s: We noticed a growing demand from Australian coffee drinkers for a smoother, more mellow coffee experience. We’ve responded to this demand by creating Sereno Blend, which appeals to our guests who prefer a lighter coffee. Our coffee houses around the country now offer Sereno and the Original Blend, providing our guests with two blend options for their preferred type of coffee.

      • Weird, I've never been given a choice, and never noticed this on the menu. Maybe some francises just sell one or the other.

        • It's on the menu but you only get it if you ask for it, they'd never give it to you if you didn't ask.

    • Nothing wrong with GJ's, must be your location….. my local makes it perfect… the sereno blend is the original blend, sereno is more smoother, still ok but i def prefer the original blend, still free cuppa is a free cuppa, good deal

  • Hillsong owned. No freebie wanted from homophobic nutjobs.

    • Your loss

    • I just ignore them and wave it in their face

    • +5
    • +1

not all christians are homophobes - in fact a lot of them aren't.. I'm a Christian and also happen to attend Hillsong.. A true Christian accepts everyone..
      just putting it out there.

      :)

    • Off topic: WHY ARE CHURCHES WHO DON'T PAY TAX OWNING FOR PROFIT BUSINESSES?! Or am I confused in my outrage.

    • thanks.

  • +1

While I will still try to get the free coffee, I wonder how these poor franchisee were compansated by this silly promotion that the head quarter dictated to push.

    • +1

I am going to ask them when I try it out if they are not too busy.

      • +2

Head office allocates the beans and they get further reimbursement depending on how many they sell

  • +3

Makes me wish i drank coffee, if only they would do that for their hot chocolates.

    • +1

Might be worth requesting for it. I would assume it's easier to make and probably cheaper to produce than the coffee options.

    • I feel ya brosef!

Which of these would have the least caffeine anyway?

      • +1

If they don't offer decaf, maybe ask if they can pour a half shot only into the cup and fill it with milk (ask for a latte in which case)? So it'll be weaker in flavour too but half the amount of caffeine a normal cup would have.. but I dunno, I'm no barista lol. (just ask?)

  • +2

What's the catch? :) So people will be flocking in from 2pm to get free coffees for an hour without needing to order anything else?

    • +2

You dont have to order to anything to get free drink. Just come and say i want free coffee..

  • is this for all states in AU?

  • +1

I'd so love to take this deal up but I've got a medical condition where one coffee keeps me buzzing for two days straight… plus it makes me feel drunk all the time. It's alot less fun than it sounds like!

    • +1

      Friday drinks sorted though.

    • Ask for decaf, but you might have to pay 50c extra

      • you can get the Sereno Blend coffee only, can not change for anything else. Only things You can do is adding extra shot Sereno Coffee for $0.70, adding soy milk for $0.70, adding syrup for $1. not able to upsize or change to original blend or decaf.

    • Could you PM me or perhaps enable your PMs? :)

  • +2

good job op… 2 years back, Michel has similar deal..
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104016

    • True, & that was celebrating their winning the best coffee chain award.

Gloria never won anything but maybe this promo is to trick people into thinking they did.. haha

  • Getting rid of old stock or promoting the product?

  • Is this available on weekends as well?

    • +2

Daily throughout June. So should be available on weekends too.

      • thanks!

  • +1

Local GJ at Erina Fair just flat out refused due to Owners instructions.

    • +1

      When was this ?

The free coffee is for orders placed between 2-3pm.

      • Now. I asked them whether they will offer it and also asked just now as well. Same answer. Terms and conditions on the website state "participating stores only" - OP has stated "in all stores". Hence the neg.

        • Yep it does actually say only in participating stores so any asses can simply say they aren't participating…

          End of story..

  • It's 2:05. Should I take a break and see if it works?

Edit: I downloaded OP's picture onto my phone so I can show them when I ask. Gonna walk to the nearest GJ's and see, will report back if it works.

Got my free small. Worker tried to argue with me saying "for orders placed" meant you had to buy something first. Showed him the advert on my phone and it said FREE with no catches so he gave in and asked what drink i wanted.

Edit: top ryde city NSW, they had no promo posters.

  • Can someone confirm if GJ Campsie is on this offer? I went by this morning and didn't see the offer placard advertising this deal anywhere in the store, I guess they want to keep it low key.

  • just got a free capa from my local store. It wasn't advertised anywhere but I shamefully asked for it anyway. The owner wasn't impressed yet gave me one anyway.

    • Where did OP get the picture of the sign? Was it on the FB page?

      • I get it from cabramatta store

  • Went and asked at Market City Gloria jeans, was told I had to purchase a coffee in order to receive one for free. They even hid their promo poster.

    • thats sux! probably still a good deal

    • +1

I almost went there but decided on the capitol square outlet, they had the sign up and were even offering the free coffee to anyone who was there! Got mine free with no purchase, no problem

I was happily very surprised !!!

No surprise the market city store did that knowing what I know lol

  • Got one for free, no question asked plus that shop is super quiet, cant complain if is free !!! THANKS!

  • +1

For those in Melbourne, the GJ @ Flinders St Station has the poster & I got mine for free!

    • Yup… Can confirm that… Got a free small cappuccino! :-)

  • +1

Accepted at Gloria Jeans Melb Central (inner cafe). No signs, but manager will honor it, if you bring it up.

  • Got one at Westfield Sydney, no question ask!! Thanks OP

  • Got two at Westfield Hornsby , no sign and the girl claimed you could only order cappuccinos (what?) but still honoured Latte lol.

I did revoke the neg since got free coffee but please be more specific in the future OP.

    • +2

Wow Hermestri… did u travel all the way from Erina Fair to Hornsby just to get a cup of GJ coffee?

I am inspired by your Ozbargainess! :P

      • Haha :) I'm not "that" thrifty:) I went to work and met my wife for a cup of coffee:) those macaroons are too expensive though! But as I work around Hornsby the barista is going to see my regularly this month:)

  • I tried at GJ on corner of Pitt / Park near Town Hall in Sydney which had no signs up advertising it. Till girl told me I had to have GJ loyalty card and a copy of the flyer. I told her I didn't need either - she backed down on the card but insisted on the flyer. I think we can assume that this store is not honouring the deal.

I then got train to St Leonards and asked at the GJ there. It had no signs up either but said yes they were honouring deal and provided a small flat white as requested. I think they have to ring it up on the till with a special code.

    • I went to the the same store earlier (around 2:05pm).

Asked for the free coffee, no questions asked, but the girl (short-haired) seemed quite upset about it judging by the way she looked at me.

Anyway, did you try bring up OP's picture of the promotion?

Too bad if this store does not honor it as it is literally downstairs of my office!

      • I was there around 2.10pm. I reckon the two girls had discussed it by then and decided on their approach on how not to honour the deal. I didn't have my smartphone with me so couldn't show them the promo picture. Report back on how you go tomorrow.

        • +1

My question is: why do ordinary workers care about this. If I worked at GJs I'd be throwin' round free coffee like there was no tomorrow. Owners/managers have reasons of stinge, but the workers, I just don't get.

        • Same. I served by asian girl in Pitt st corner store. she refused to honour the coffee as I am not member. so just walked to george st eventcinema one. Friendly guy honoured it no question ask!

        • @leehungfei:

I tried at this store on Monday but was told that because it was a public holiday they hadn't had Sereno delivered, didn't have any in stock and couldn't honour the promotion.

Sounded like a load of bulldust to me. If I had time, I would've waited in the store to overhear someone ordering Sereno without the promotion.

Another day another excuse from Gloria Jeans Pitt & Park Store.

We OzBargainers should enact revenge by ordering a dozen different coffees with various additions and upon receiving the order total declare that we've forgotten our wallets!

    • +3

This is bad marketing: Why advertise something than not honour it!!

      • They should never have ha such a generous promotion running for an entire month.

  • Which suburbs in the Sydney metro area have the most GJ shop density? Might do a coffee run if I have an afternoon off and my opal card maxed.

    • I think the city has about 5 within reasonable walking distance of each other.

      • +3

We could run an OzB competition to see who can get the most free GJ coffees in an hour. xD

  • My parents went to hurstville GJ, free coffee only when you purchase something else, SUX again, looks like all depends on individual GJ, so try your luck …

  • +2

    Burwood Westfield no problem ;)

    Capitol square no problem..

    • +2

Confirming burwood Westfield with no issues

  • Anyone tried in Brisbane?

  • Today 2pm: Ashfield, NSW store has a sign up - so obviously they were participating. At first they spent about a minute agreeing with me that is was 2pm then they asked me what I would buy with it. I told them that I was getting takeaway and was in a hurry so I just wanted the coffee. The cashier then spent about a minutes ringing up the sale on the register only to then ask me for $3.70. I responded that I was not going to pay anything. After about another minute the order was complete. On the plus side I was asked cap or flat white.

    • yeah I was there 2:30 today, seems they've figured it out now, was in and out asap..

  • Stafford qld - no problem! They had a sign up.

  • is there any updated news on the chatswood gloria jeans store?

  • Works at Harbourtown Docklands VIC. They have a sign up on the wall.

  • Gloria Jeans at Fountain Gate not accepting deal on weekends!!!! Shouldn't advertise or make such promotions in the first place if they can't honor them!!!!

  • +1

ive now had success at QLD Mooloolaba and just recently NSW Coffs Harbour, it does feel somewhat satisfying sitting enjoying my freebie reading a book while everyone else is forking out their cash not having a clue about the promotion, suckers. but i did feel like a cheapo after returning daily so i bought a banana bread 1 time.
the Moloolaba had a sign, but Coffs not. i wouldnt really pay for this blend of coffee though, however the chick down Coffs does a great job as a barista and the choc sprinkles help. sucks as im house sitting for rest of month and my closest store is 20mins away

  • Does anyone know if the one next to North Sydney Station (NSW) participates in this?

Btw, it's now on its website and FB page:
    http://www.gloriajeanscoffees.com.au/News/Blog/Article/tabid…
    https://www.facebook.com/gloriajeanscoffees/photos/pcb.10153…

    • I have also heard ads on Smooth FM today promoting it.

    • Yes North Sydney does. They have a sign if you walk in from Blue Street but it was turned around (there was some other advert on the other side). I noticed it on my way out. I just asked them if they were participating in the offer and they said yes and ordered a small coffee without any problem.

  • Works at Charlestown Square & Stockland Jesmond (NSW)… :)
Both places have got the Poster displayed as well…

  • Poor form by 'manager' at GJ Garden City, QLD. Showed loyalty card and asked for free coffee at 2:30pm, and was advised that a purchase had to be made in order to get the free coffee. Manager even tried to argue that T&Cs stated that a purchase is required. Misinterpreting T&Cs and telling a loyal GJ customer that they are wrong = customer service fail! Calling the OZB community to bombard GJ Garden City for free cuppas between 2-3pm for the next 14 days :)

  • +2

For people who have trouble asking for the deal because there was no poster, load this up on your smartphone. http://www.gloriajeanscoffees.com.au/News/Blog/Article/tabid…

    • Thanks, mate. I've been using the picture that OP posted to show the workers at GJ's.

  • The GJs on the intersection of Druitt and Pitt Street Sydney CBD near the Maccas has put up a sign saying that they're no longer honouring the free Sereno deal.

Was a good run while it lasted.

  • According to GJ HQ, the Pitt & Park Shop (RG32A, The Galleries Victoria Corner Pitt & Park Streets, SYDNEY) is the only non-participating store in Sydney CBD. Time to report the others to HQ.

  • Successfully redeemed one at Newcastle Uni today…
They didn't have any Posters up but they happily obliged… No questions asked.. :)

  • GJs Chatswood are honouring the deal no problem. There was no sign advertising the deal but I just got in the queue and the lady in front of me asked for it and they served her without blinking. Then they served me and the two people behind. 4 free coffees in a row! The girls from GJs at Park / Pitt in the city should be seconded there for a bit of 're-education'.

  • Nothing against the OP, but GJ have been so poor in telling their stores or ensuring their stores comply, that this is almost like a lottery.
Well done to those that get it, but poor form Gloria Jeans!

  • I've gotten it a few times without a problem - Stafford and Myer Centre, Brisbane.
