  • Is gift card expire? If yes when is it?

    • They usually expire 12 months from the date of purchase (i.e. these gift cards automatically get activated at checkout)

+1 thanks for this OP. Think Coles used to have 50% off Skype cards am I right so this is not the biggest discount possible? Good bargain given that there have been very few comparable offers in recent times.

Various retailers have had them at 50% off at various times, but I don't think there are any current 50% off deals.

      • Thanks for the confirmation, it has been a while since I bought skype credit and i remember buying it at 50% off but wasn't quite sure and was considering if it's time for me to stock up again. Yes, i think Woolies and Big W (same mother company) had it at 50% off as well. I will hold off for another 50% deal then.

  • Works ideally on the better Vodafone & Optus ntks, in my experience. Showing display callerID- your mobile number. Independent of installed card too.

Wonder if in ever a neutral environment, Skype Numbers might be capable to work in this way too? AFAIK Those remain witheld for CID. (Supposedly profit?)

I just went to Coles at Wynyard station. No 40% off.

    • did you try showing them OP's link?

    • While you were there you should have shown them the 1/4 page advertisement on page 21 of The Daily Telegraph.

      That's Coles Express.

      • +1

Got it from George street Coles. Thanks OP. :)

  • +1

Could be because that's a Coles express store which op has indicated is excluded

    • My bad. Yes it was Coles express. I always thought it was Coles and not express. How to change the vote?

  • Thanks unity.

  • Time to stock up a little :)
    Cheers OP

  • Skype any good for calling back to Australia from overseas (with a tourist data SIM)?

    • Can confirm that it works great. Some of the countries have got Skype calling banned so will not work from those countries. e.g. India.

      • +1

Ummm. Are you sure about India being on the list?

        Edit:
        found source: https://support.skype.com/EN/faq/FA34487/why-can-i-no-longer…

Says you cant make India to India calls, but if you want to call outside india from within, you can. I'd imagine anyone would only use their mobile minutes for local calls!

        • Sorry I stand corrected. Cheers

      • +1

You can call from India to Australia. I can confirm that. Skype have only banned India to India calls

    • It generally grandfathers plans as well e.g. AU $38.xx ($19.xx/yr!) w' 300 mins pm to mobiles of 50 world regions +Australia, was not bad one to pocket last year. Exploded, then of course is removed.

Am stocked with credit to 2020, maintaining that subscription. Make use CID of Voda AU in lieu of preferred landline or Skype Number. P2p all else (video).

  • I am wondering if the gift can can be used to pay monthly subscription and also if one gift card can be used on separate payments. Anyone?

    • Unless it's changed recently, you can use the gift cards to pay for subscriptions

    • you can, great saving

      • Thanks folks.

Damn, I am not ozbargaining enough to discover this any earlier.

  • I haven't used Skype so excuse me but it says Skype is free? Does this apply to domestic video calls? What costs money to warrant a gift card?

    • +2

@MaccDogg skype to skype calls are free. You need credits to call from Skype to a mobile phone number

      • -1

Thanks :) So assuming that you both have the Skype app on your mobile it's free. I wonder why you wouldn't just get the other person to download Skype. Sorry Im so clueless

  • Guys, what about Google voice? The rates are cheaper than Skype. Anyone used it?

    • I rang a landline in Zimbabwe for 8c a minute using Google voice. Skype charge for the same call was 29c or more. The line was clear. Had no problems at all.

      • Hmm, I'm waiting for my Skype credits to deplete. Will switch to Google voice then, only complain would be not having a local number.

  • For those hoping to pick some up in Brisbane western suburbs:
    * None left in Coles Indooroopilly or Coles Toowong.
    * Some $10 cards still available at Coles Kenmore.

  • i am still using smartvoip which gives you 90 free days everytime you add money into your account. which one will be better? (in the free days, you approximately have like 30-60 free mins per day)
