Best Place for beach Holiday in January

Its monsoon season in bali & most asian beach destinations, i've heard there is jellyfish in northern australia at this time. I was thinking maybe byron bay? apparently its not wet season in January in thailand but it seems expensive

Probably best sticking to Australia. It's the least costly option and you have more than enough beaches to choose from. Byron Bay is a perfectly good choice — not sure why you'd need to pay ~$600 for a return ticket to Thailand when you can spend that money on a road trip/accommodation in your own backyard.

  • yeah totally agree, also recently i went to bali and seems like hotels cost the same there as they do here now anyway .

  • Depends where in Thailand you might be contemplating. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and surrounds will be in monsoon season at that time. I would personally avoid having experienced a complete washout during that time of year in the past.
Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi and surrounds are on the opposite coastline and not in monsoon season during Christmas/NY.
Prices will be VERY expensive over that time. Peak season rates will apply between 20/12 to 10/01

That said, we are heading to Bali over Christmas for the 3rd year in a row. Last year the weather was pretty good. In 2 weeks we only had 3 decent downpours and the year before that it hardly rained too. All during monsoon season.

You could also go for the South Coast - less heat/humidity in summer, generally cheaper than heading North, less crowded, no marine stingers/box jellyfish.

There are some beautiful places between Wollongong and Eden (historical whaling town); Merimbula, Narooma, Batemans Bay, Jervis Bay (home of Hyams), Ulladulla, Bega (which is not beachy but the home of cheese).
