Going to Sign New Contract, Samsung S5 or LG G3?

I don't know why but I accidentally went to Vodafone shop, and saw LG G3 contract for $40/month, it is good and even better when the young lady told me if I'd interested in, she would upgrade data to 1.5 GB data. Then she recommended me to get a Samsung Galaxy S5, with the same price as LG G3, that was better deal for me according to her.
But I am really standing between two phones. I like G3 because of big screen 5.5", and the screen look pretty good to me. Although S5 has smaller screen, and little bit gay color to me, it has a LOT of features and also the camera is better than LG. Then LG G3 has a free cover with Vodafone plan. Can anyone who using one or both of them please give me advice. Thanks and appreciate your reading.

TLDR: I don't know which phone I will pick between S5 and LG G3. They have same price $40/month (VODAFONE/Virgin).

we recently got a G3, a fantastic phone - camera is great, screen excellent. The software works well. This was a replacement for a sony Z3 that got broken.

    • so is it better than S5, you reckon? I read so many reviews that I am so confused! Beside S5 has some ridiculous features like Finger scan and heart rate sensor (that would be fun either), I read that S5 has better camera and more fun than LG G3. In my opinion, G3 prettier but I am afraid it would be bored after long time use.

Cases :) Lots and lots of cases. I don't know, I change cases (have like 3 cases, could've gone for more if there were any decent ones out there) whenever I feel that my phone has lost its appeal to me (and change the wallpaper as well, because why not). It feels like a new phone afterwards for awhile.

      • Never used an s5 but I thought it was meant to be a bit of a dog of a phone. S4 good, s5 bad, s6 good.

S5 is alright if you go for practicality. Waterproof function, sd card support, removable batteries, with ugly as f!@# design that made the phone bulkier than S4 along with not much reasons to move from S4.

If you don't need waterproof function, the phone is just ugly as f!@# bulky (device size increased too much) Galaxy S4 i9506 with better battery life + slightly better camera (not too sure about the camera, I tend to ignore people talking about camera as I don't use it that much). Other contenders were introducing bigger screen for the first time and QHD screen etc. Not to mention, Sony pretty much have been releasing better looking, waterproof phones, before Samsung did.

Samsung lost fair bit of market share after that, which made Samsung to "start from scratch" (Project Zero).

Anyways, long story short, S5 is an alright phone if you go for practicality.

I personally don't think Snapdragon 801 can handle QHD well (Snapdragon 801 is pretty much overclocked version of Snapdragon 800, so yeah). LG G3 was bashed fairly heavily in Korea for its sharpening effect, throttling and overheating. i.e. from websites like Playwares on throttling and overheating. It's in Korean but they show data in graphs, though the website will load fairly slowly. That said, that's the gist I was getting from reading forums and such.

  • Bit off topic, Did any one buy G3 from Kogan? Did anyone receive their phone seal broken on arrival?

Yes, She's right in terms of value $$. S5 would be a better deal.
But you just need to see what you want/like about each phone
    I like G3 because:
-only slightly bigger than S5 but bigger screen
-has a very good circle cover with handy features
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cbOSBN7F1k
-light weight compared to other 5.5"or more phones

At the end, you are the ones who knows what features are most important to you

  • G3 IMO

    I have a different idea.

    1.
G3 use Snapdragon 801 processor with QHD display.
Many reviewer said Snapdragon 801 processor is weak to deal QHD display.
So if you use heavy applications, you feel the phone cannot deal the applicaitons properly.

Or if you are not playing games, QHD display is a good choice, but even though you are not using heavy applications, you should see some lag on the screen.

Even some Galaxy note 4 users are downscales the screen resolution to get high performance.

    2.
    Too sharpned screen
When you read letters on screen, you can see halo around blank and white.
Personaly I hate this effect as makes me feel tired.

    3.
    Weaker bright then S5.
Under the sun, you probably diffcult to recognise screen.

And Stronger bright at minimun brightness.
    display comparison

Other than good things of G3 compare to Galaxy S5

    Knock on
    Back cover button.
    Camera.

But I agree G3 is a good phone.
I am using Galaxy note 4, my wife is using G3, my mother in law use Galaxy S5 ( I recommended and I set up everything as she doesn't know about tech. )

So in conclusion, accoding to my personal experience,

You are not regret whatever you choose.
But make sure, if you don't like bulky pocket, choose small screen one.

    • this is the best answer that I want. I bought Samsung S5 today because of your answer, Pian. I also get 1.5 Gigs and $50 plan for $40 a month, very nice Vodafone Reps in this store.

  • S5 I'd say.
