Best Value Tablet under $300 for Kids

Hi guys Im about to go overseas for a holiday and am looking to buy a couple of tablets for the kids to keep them occupied. Im looking for 7-10" and they will pretty much only be used for surfing the net and watching movies from a memory card. Nice and easy to use (kid friendly)

thanks for any help!

Great tablet with a good screen and OK battery life. Can afford to buy an external microsd card and power bank since they're so cheap.

Got one for my kid - iPad mini 2 16gb wifi. List price $368. Wait when special 10% off, paid $332. Bought within few weeks before short overseas trip and claim 9% back. Make it around $300.

Pedopad will do it for them if only wanting it for what you claim.
    Cost less than $100
    Not sure if its kid friendly (-;

    • I have one. Pretty ordinary.

Quite probably if you do more than what the OP wants.
But, if just watching a movie and surfing the net?

        • VLC playback is okay, & so is surfing on the 10". I have since moved onto a HP 7". It has more variety in terms of Apps available.

      Extremely unfortunate typo there. It's a Pendo…

      • Funny thing is I didn't do it deliberately.

manage to get ipad mini 2 64Gb for $400 from big w at rockdale but that was the last one - you might be lucky to find smaller storage under $300 ?

Best value 7" I would go for the Samsung, good brand, good build quality, $149 at Officeworks

Do your kids eyes a favour and go for the Asus Memo Pad HD7 version instead, around the same price but way better screen. I got these for my kids and they have been great, very snappy to use, really nice screen, very loud speaker, awesome battery life, tough build quality.

They are on same resolution (They've revamped MeMO Pad series). Not sure about the quality of the screen though (you know, TN vs IPS yaddi yadda).

Yep, just checked the specs, seems the new Memo Pad 7 is improved, and has replaced the HD7 in their line up. Great value tab, perfect for the kids.
Word of warning, avoid cheap Samusung tabs, they are VERY slow, especially after you load a few apps and videos on them. Their top end stuff is good, but the cheaper ones suck big time.

        • @billy_bob: tbh, I personally find current Android tablet market to be… slightly underwhelming right now. Tab S 10.5 was alright straight out of the box (I've helped setting my dad's one/had it for a month or so). TabPRO 10.1 needs slight tweaking before it runs decently (Still on KitKat as well, ART might do wonders for it, 5.1.1 might come out Early Q3, apparently). Though those two flagships have too high res screen for its processor. Other than Samsung, Sony produces relatively high specced tablet (Snapdragon 800 + FHD), but they were more expensive than Samsung tablets when I was looking for a tablet.

Stopping myself from digressing, I agree with you completely, Samsung budget tablets are very under specced for what you pay. You could probably grab something far better by chipping in little bit more, or waiting for a decent deal (i.e. I paid 350ish for Samsung tablets I've mentioned). You could go with other manufacturers to grab cheaper and/or better specced one as well.

If they are watching movies on the tablet in the plane then buy some headphones as well.

Buy multiple cheapo in ear ones from aliexpress. I say cheap because kids will break them. In ear because they are compact for packing.

Also external power/battery if the airline doesn't have USB ports in the arm rests.

  • Thanks everyone for your help! I have bought the ASUS Memopad looks like it should do the job nicely..

    cheers
