  • Depend on how many days, which airlines you fly or have you booked. Is price absolutely important? Would you rather pay a bit more for newer car? My preference in order is Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europecar,Thrifty (discount for car club member) which all have their own websites to book. Sometimes use webjet to compare as tool. Some car hire shops are franchises so experience may vary. The car hire offer from airline when booking flight I found is good deal. Hire between big car and small car are little difference in price so I would rather get a decent size car to fit the need. You will save back on petrol with a better car like Toyota Corolla then older car from XYZ company. Last but not least, buy and pay for car travel insurance beforehand instead of opt in when pick up car to reduce excess from $3000. Happy travel.

    • Thanks for option . Just there from Saturday to Monday .

Price not that important. Just whatever is a fair deal.

      I'll check out avis.

    Camry hatchback

No such animal in Australia (excluding those made 20 plus years ago)

    • Didn't realize my car is that old now :). Still falls brand new

  • I checked Avis. Seems like a lot. For 2.5 days (or 3 days) which apparently includes 1 day free comes to be:

$345 (includes $72 for excess reduction)

This is in Prosperine hiring a Toyota Camry (wasn't much difference in price if you go smaller car).

    That's $113 per day.

Is that normal or expected? I thought it would have been around $60-$70 per day including all insurnace and excess reduction.

Its very hard to say, as it depends on when you are looking - is it during school holidays, high season, low season, is there something on in town those days?

Also how are you getting there? Flying in? Then hiring at the airport or downtown? Many variables!

      Try this

      https://www.carhire.com.au

they have all the majors listed. Then you can use that as a guide and check individual companies.

Look at joining one of their frequent traveller clubs like Avis Wizard and also search for any coupons

Carhire/vroom has some interesting details here

      https://www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au/content/useful-articles.a…

But still recheck what you can by going direct. Some coupons or discount codes may work only on the car rental site. Eg Thrifty give 15% off for NRMA/Autoclub members
