If anyone is in doubt - then buy it. These are terrific.

    • Unbox Therapy gave a great review just this month "The Best Bluetooth Speaker?"
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBDjYzY_6-k just encase you need any convincing ;)

    • I am looking for a wireless setup to replace my current old 2.1ch PC speakers ($30~$50 level), any experience to share from anyone? I really doubt this will outrun a basic 2.1

      • +2

no bass my broski, you can pair these babies though.

      • +2

Of course it wont out run a 2.1 setup. I bought 2 ue booms to use on my laptop, it was fidly because the double up feature only works via bluetooth and via the app.

Unlike other other bt speakers it doesnt have apt x low latency codecs meaning the sound will be out of sync with games and movies. The ue boom is only good for music.

If you want a wireless pc speakers for around $100 soundblaster has decent 2.1s http://au.creative.com/p/speakers

If you want a portable bt speaker for your pc then get the sound blaster roar. I have one and nothing else comes close for sound quality and features within the price range. You can even pair 2 of them together like the ue boom but properly with a wire, no dodgy app required.

        • Thanks for the reply :) I had a look at the site, there are three models, are you talking about Sound Blast Free? And second question is, did you mean one of them will be enough and comparable to my current 2.1ch? Coz they look like a similar thing to UE Boom, I am not sure why the issues you mentioned wouldn't happen to these Creative ones? Thanks in advance.

        • +2

          @fan8956:

I did not notice the Sound blaster free. That's a new one but shame it isn't using aptx. I personally wouldn't even consider a BT speaker if it doesn't have aptx support.

I was talking about the 2.0/2.1 speakers. The only portable speaker I'd recommend for laptop/pc is the soundblaster roar.

Alternatively get one of these and turn any speaker into a bluetooth speaker: http://www.amazon.com/Avantree-LATENCY-Bluetooth-Transmitter…

    • +1

Bought this on your recommendation, and am enjoying it very much right now!

      • +2

        Excellent

  • They reduce it after the 20% off.

    • Yes daft given they would have sold a ton of them and made the same money still given its eBay doing the rebate.

      • Er, pretty sure this is a price error give all the other model are still $199.

        • The others were $198 last night .. So yes could be an error, but you would expect the price to be $98 then not $99.

  • +3

Now that is a great price. Tempted to get another to pair up in stereo mode.

    • Lol, me too.

      • +13

But my one is black. It'll eat me up inside knowing the colours not matching…

        • +9

          just buy 2, problem solve.

        • Kinda works out to differentiate left and right

    • Do you know how many you can pair up altogether ?

  • It seems it is not ebay is alone bleeding from the discounts. The reatailers also discounting the products to certain percentage during these sales. The advantage for retailers is they claim volume rebates from suppliers/manufacturers which ebay can't.
Any we are benefitting from these offers.
    BTW
Does it have NFC and Audio input?

    • -3

No nfc, but it does have a 3.5mm jack on the bottom

      • Thank you both

    • +3

It does have NFC for pairing bluetooth (NFC coil below volume buttons)

      • Wow - I seriously didn't know that. Thanks! And my apologies for leading anyone astray…

  • +14

I hate ozb/my bank account does :( Just couldnt resist! I really think we need get OA (ozb anonymous) meetings happening….

  • Bought one. THanks!

  • Great deal. Get two and link them up. They're really good as a background ambience or out at parks - I used mine extensively when renovating. The dust and water proofing made them ideal.

    How does cash reward work?
I bought a dyson on the CTREAT20 deal and my cashrewaed still says ballance of $0.00

    • +1

It takes weeks before it'll show up. They need to verify the purchase etc..

      • ohk thanks.
Do i need to do anything or it goes automatically? How does it know to link my eBay account with the Cashrewards account ?

        • -1

its basically a referral code, works the same.

  • wow pretty good considering two used ones are up for auction and the bidding is up to ~$220
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LOGITECH-Ultimate-Ears-UE-BOOM-Bl…

    • +1

Well when you consider that a deal $40 more expensive got 88 upvotes, and also that DS sells the other colours for $198. this is probably the best find of the month.

      • +1

Best price for this speaker was $107 during the 20% off sale yesterday, so this is a little better than that. Being under $100 makes it sound like so much more of a bargain even though its only $8 :P

      • +1

I'd say that was more for the Megaboom. $139 is average. $219 for the megaboom was a steal.

  • +3

The white one can very easy get dirty be careful to use.

  • -2

i hate how 99% of these portable speakers only have a built in battery. Being portable, should also mean being able to throw a few eneloops in when it goes flat to keep the music going.

    love my SRSBTM8B

    • +1

Well you do have an option of charging it using portable battery packs (via Micro USB).

      • what, wait 6-10hrs to charge it up when your wanting to listen to music?

portability is lost when you cant feed it more batteries.

    • +3

A deteriorating built-in (non-replaceable) battery is part of the business plan.

    • good luck getting a decent battery life using Nimh. Reminds me of the boom boxes that used 6 D cell batteries

  • Great find thanks OP!!!

  • Bought one. Amazon has good review on this one. They are much more expensive too.

  • +1

Does Officework Sell this? Price match if they do.

    • yes the do , you can buy it with same colour if you want

  • +2

Why are people getting so excited for this when the JBL charge 2 was a much better sytem and only $20 more just a little while back? This lacks base according to the youtube reviews I saw.

    • Where? Any place I found that sell the charge 2 for less than 150 is out of stock.

  • Anyone knows why dse website $198 but their ebay store $99? Shouldnt be the other way round when ebay fee is going to cost more?

    • also $198 on ebay for all other colours. I assume this colour was a price error, which often occurs with dick due to their ever-changing prices.

  • If I could think of a use for this I would get one, but my main listening areas already have proper speaker setups.

Do you guys just use this for road trips?

  • Thx, ordered!

  • +4

Can't think of a scenario where I'd use it. Bought one anyway. Damn OZB (and my weak self-control)…

    • +3

I owned this before. Frankly the UE Boom is much better. Louder. Long battery life. And can be charged via Micro USB — this Flip doesn't (the Flip 2 does however)

  • +2

ffs! I know i shouldn't be complaining, but today i was planning only to buy the logitech x100 for $19, then i saw the mini boom deal for $59 and wanted that. NOW I WANT TO BUY THE UE BOOM WHEN I DIDNT EVEN WANT TO REALLY BUY THE X100!!

Life is hard being an ozbargainer sometimes.

  • Guys, don't forget that you can Price Beat in Office Works for 5%.
Not sure if you can do it , but try it anyway.
Also you can get black colour in OW.

  • +3

In what situation do people use these? Actually curious, maybe its just not for my lifestyle, I've never found myself in a situation where I would need a portable speaker

    • Yes, if you want the true bargain you shouldn't buy this speaker.
Anyway I reckon you can use it for your home PC/laptop in your house.
If you already had z623 like me , you can put it behind your seat, BOOM, surround speaker.

Or you can use it to play music wirelessly from your phone without the need to plug AUX cable and leave your phone with the speaker in case if you rarely going outside like me , nerdy me.
      So it's multipurpose I guess.

    • +1

I have a home gym outside under an awning. I don't like wearing headphones especially when sweating so this is useful.

Also useful as I have no power points outside, so for BBQ or small gatherings can be useful for some background music. If it kicks on, I use my Xiaomi external battery.

They say you can bring it to a park etc. but not sure if really practical.

so tempted to get a second one for stereo.

    • -2

I use it on the bus and train.

  • +1

Another impulse buy, because I didn't want to miss out on a deal OzBargain will be talking about for years to come! Looking forward to the next time Spotify is free for two months to make the most of it!

  • +1

Hehe.. I like the guy buying 10 of them at 23:42

    • Means it's close to what normal business's can get it for from the distributors?

    • Probably relists them for US customers to make a profit.

      • definitely a reseller

    • +5

      Broden, is that you?

  • Arrrg, snapped. Bought.

    • To make sure I got a good deal, I went to Officeworks this morning to see if they would price match $99. Answer: No.

Manager said they have a blanket policy to not match eBay prices even if the online store on eBay had a physical store/website. They would only match based on the store's official website or physical store catalogues prices. In this case, the DSE site has it for $198 while OW in store has it for $147. (OW store: 2148)

      • +2

I managed to get a price match at ow =)

        • Could you get a different colour? Could you share your receipt?

        • Nice! Darn, must be my local!

        • +1

@denpol85: Yeah i managed to get the black/red one, they almost didn't do it but i managed to convince them =)

      • +1

Got a call from the DS store I was going to pick up at and they said blue/white was unavailable and if I would accept the pink, camo or black. Got black :)

  • +1

I'm repeatedly telling myself how superior the megaboom is to the UE Boom…. it ensures I don't waste so much on these Ozbargain deals

    :D

    • Can u get a mega for $99 ? or $150?

  • Does anyone use this as a laptop speaker?

I don't have a desktop PC, and I hated having a speaker set with crazy wires everywhere.

Could I leave this plugged into my usb and have it constantly on?

    • I use it as a laptop speaker and its plugged in to usb constantly no problems.
Other issues I have is with my bluetooth connection, when idle for long the bluetooth sort of cuts the connection to standby state. When you start to play sound again, my sound gets jerky so I have to turn the speaker off and on again. It could be just my laptop bluetooth module playing up, not sure.

      • +3

I believe it has a setting to cut out after 20 minutes if not in use.. To conserve the battery. And I've found it gets jerky when my Internet connection isn't ideal. But I still love it.

I use it at school. I'm a teacher.. Put it in the centre of the classroom when I'm showing students videos. Worth every cent!

        • Thanks. Exactly what I needed to know. My wife was looking for a classroom music solution for when working as a SRE teacher. Got her one.

        • @foxpro:

There is noticeable lag when using bt audio for movies/games. I had 2 ue booms and the audio sync delay in movies and games was unacceptable for me but for classrooms it might be ok.

        • @foxpro: No worries. Yes, it is perfect for the classroom..I'm the envy of all my friends haha..and even though the blue/white does get dirty…it stands out, and doesn't blend in with all the other school equipment, so I'm glad I got that one instead of black :-)

        • +2

@rdchristy2: Went and picked up the unit at lunchtime. Here my mini review (Disclaimer: This comes from an audio nut of yesteryear used to listen to reference speakers and amps in purpose build rooms):

          [Pros]
Well, yes it plays music, sets up fast and conveniently, requires no power, looks smart and a $99 price is alright.
          [Cons]
Sound. Due to the compact size no bass exists. Mids and highs are clean but a bit sterile. Hearing fatigue sets in rather quickly. Bluetooth had some hiccups during a 45min test, but that could be phone related.
          [Tip]
Hanging the speaker up in mid air frees it from sound restrictions and resonances of a table and makes it sound better.

Overall it will do it's intended purpose in the classroom very well. Good for situations where some music is better than no music. Happy with the purchase.

        • @foxpro:
Try using the UE Boom app, it gives you an option to adjust the EQ. I changed mine to the bass option and there is a noticeable difference.

        • @foxpro: Amazing review !! u cannot expect quality sound from a $99 device !! It seems this is perfect for outdoors small events.

  • +1

Should be a good camping speaker for music in the sticks.

    • until it goes flat

The battery life expectancy would be based on mid volume.

  • -4

i waited overnight and now the click and collect options in the cbd are out of stock! do you guys know if it's possible to ask for a click and collect to be moved after an order is made? thanks again for the ripper bargains, ozbargain community!!
