  • This is the best thing since sliced bread! The Woolworth's equivalent whilst slight better bread is three times the cost

  • I got the triple pack for lunch today and only $2…bargain! on the topic of underpaid, franchisee are required to do this to remain profitable because the franchiser (7 eleven) take most of the profits. There was an article about the franchise contract with 7 eleven and basically if you own the shop your screwed.

Exploiting workers is never a bargain.

Boycotting until proven ethical by independent sources.

A few months ago I went to a focus group for 7-11 (free $40) and they asked the question "How much does the political climate affect your purchasing choices?".
It seemed like a very strange question at the time but now I think I know what they were trying to find out.

I do not support nor condone a business model that come at a price of exploiting employee wages.

    • +1

      That is every business model.

      • That's capitalism.

        • +1

Capitalism is an economic system in which trade, industries, and the means of production are largely or entirely privately owned and operated for profit.

Professor Alan Fels said this -
" My impression, my strong impression, is that the only way a franchisee can make a go of it in most cases is by underpaying workers,”

If the business is unable to make a profit, the business should close and the resources be managed in a more productive manner.

It's more of a form of socialism, not capitalism.

      Boycotting myself too

  • Wow! I was completely unaware of these issue with 7-11. I will certainly be walking the extra mile now rather taking the convenience of 7-11.

  • I bought two, the clerk told me that even the $7 sangers are $2 too.
I'll be stocking up before work next Wednesday!!!

  • I wonder if the salads are $2 this time also, can anyone confirm

is anyone really surprised that 7-eleven is underpaying staff? I thought it would be obvious since they are nearly all staffed by indian people and the same for home ice cream - they used to be white middle aged men now they are all indian. when you see staff like that then to me its always suspicious. they are exploiting their vulnerability to make more profit for themselves.

And dominos and eagle boys too lately !!! It's all about other people or business screwing other people or business, that's life in this commercial world .

  • let the debate begin if they are tasty or not

Appears not to have been a "good call" by the OP

I have major issues with retailer and their business practices.

Thats unfortunately right. I get paid below minimum. But nobody complains because these people are the only ones that give us immigrants jobs. I only work one odd shift to supplement my studies as I am in Uni atm. And in the tax return they claim that they are paying $19-20 to their employees. So the difference of $19 and what they actually pay us is just tax free income for them and it amounts to around $20k a year per store just savings from not paying employees minumum wage

A great idea , if you all care so much for the bargain and 7 eleven employees, why don't you all pay $2 for the sandwich and $2 tips for the employees. The American system !! Still savings yourself a $1 for your kids future .

      Pick one and only one.

To take advantage of all the bad press on 7-Eleven, I will be opening a business that is firmly rooted in doing the opposite of what 7-Eleven does.

I shall call it an "Inconvenience Store" concept. Instead of $2 sandwiches ready-made, there will be bread, filling, condiments, spreads that you use to make your own sandwiches. However, the catch is that it won't be that easy. For example:
    - the butter will be completely frozen
    - the loaf of bread won't be sliced
    - the chicken is uncooked (you can use it like that if you want)
    - the lettuce is still in the garden

I shall be operating out of my house for now. There's no staff to underpay. Just leave money on the counter.

  • Poor franchise owners. The head office take 53% of all sales and the owner keeps the rest after wages. No wonder they have to underpay staff. No franchise owner can make money after paying bank loan. Maybe only make own wage.

  • I drove past a 7-11 today and decided to check out the $2 range- scored the triple pack sandwich and must say it's value for money at $2! Wouldn't pay full price for it but what a bargain at $2. Have never bought in previous $2 days from all the publicity but didn't quite have a choice today…
