      Seriously???

      • +19

We have to remember that there are non nerdy normies outside >.>

        • Aye Aye Captain! :)

        • +28

          @Neo:
XDA is a whole new level above Whirlpool for nerdism.

        • +15

          @Neo:
As an apparent Whirlpool elitist, you should be ashamed to not know what XDA is.

        • @johnno07: ditto! :)

        • @Neo: careful, your ignorance is showing

        • +1

          @Neo: oh there it is

          *claps slowly

        • +5

          @Neo:

I'm not going to lambaste you mate, as not everyone is into knowing about mobile phones and their capabilities, some people just want their phone to dial a number, SMS and occasionally check FB/emails or whatever and that's OK.

But for anyone interested, this is a great deal. I don't use XDA much nowadays, but did a couple years back when I was installing custom roms/tweaks on my old Note 2.

It's an invaluable forum for anyone who's interested in finding out about their smartphone.

FWIW, I'm a daily Whirlpooler as well. For anyone into phones though, XDA is their Whirlpool, maybe even more than that.

      • +8

Not everyone, in fact, I daresay, most people just use their phone out of the box as is. Not that surprising.

If you had a non-ozbargain exclusive sample size of 100 people, I'd guess that 10 may have heard of XDA and only 5-8 would have ever actually read stuff on it.

But back to this post… Good deal!

        • +2

It's a wealth of (too much) information.

        • +2

i doubt it would be even 10.
go and ask neighbours, any one with a phone, most people are normal and not like us. the don't tweak phone, dont read up on firmware, dont root (ooh err!) etc.

    • +5

Morpheus just called and asked me to revoke your Matrix Licence

    • Only the best mobile phone forums on the internet.

    • +8

If you're an Android user, hand it over, your not deserving.

      • +1

If you're an Android user, hand it over, your not deserving.

must be a fruitfone user if they have never heard of XDA

    • +1

member since 2009! wow.. do you have apple by any chance?

      • (profanity) off. such as insult to my intelligence

    • +1

Sorry you're getting hated on. I'm here to say/ask the same thing.
      OP quote has assumptions built-in.

      Reminds me of:
      "world famous in New Zealand"

      • Except XDA actually servers a purpose.

        • Guessing it's like Tapatalk?
I only know what that is, because they spam me to install their (paid, then possibly free) software, when I visit supported sites.

I've installed it - Hopefully it make OCAU read well, for the first time on mobile!

  • +3

I'm such a tight arse… I have always accessed XDA via a Web browser on my phone… Not anymore!

    Thanks for this great find.

    • +4

      oyee!!! you are not tightarse!!!

  • +14

Why would you pay for this app or even use the free one when you can simply visit the forums (for free) using your web browser anyway??

    • +3

      Like the unofficial Ozbargain App

      • +1

never knew it was unofficial.. hmm!!!

        • +2

I guess you never saw what happened last time it was posted

        • @Clear: hahhaa… Enlightening!!

        • @Clear: haha that was a good read!

    • -3

You must have never used a mobile browser before.

    • I'm only guessing here, but when you buy the app, it could be a way to support the forum… Almost like a donation.

  • +3

I can't up vote any app that isn't Material, it's against my religion.

    Praise be to Duarte.

    • It's very ironic coming from xda, where if you don't praise material design you get shunned for the rest of time.

    • +1

Who voted me down? I'm ok with people not getting the reference, but don't down vote me because of your ignorance.

      • You wanna piece of me!?!

  • +3

I actually frequent a few forums but I'll be honest I never heard of it…. oh well something to look at.

    • Ditto to that

  • Whilst installing there is insuffient space on device!

Amazon apps download, but I have not updated Google info is account, credit card info .?

  • Requires permissions for:
    Identity
    Photo/media/files
    Wi-Fi connection information
    Device id and call information

    • +2

For those of us that have Marshmallow we can just block those permissions.

      • Times like this are where I miss MIUI (has a built in full feature permission blocker). Guess I'll need to wait for my G3 to update

        • If you have Nova Laucher or QuickShortcutMaker you can use the AppOps built into the phone from an Activities widget.
You can also set it to a gesture if you have that feature available. Although it is sometimes limited and can't
          restrict all permissions.

These are the steps for NL.

          1. Go to the widgets menu from the homescreen.
          2. Grab the Activities tile from NL.
          3. Scroll down to the Settings folder with >300 activities.
          4. Select Access Lock
  • Thanks. Use Tapatalk to access xda so will give this a go

  • +1

People who own an Android phone should know this?

  • +1

i know this site since i bought my first "smart phone", XDA phone! i think thats where the forum name comes from
    http://www.gsmarena.com/o2_xda_ii_mini-944.php

    • Sorry, missed this! Glad to see I'm not the only one who remembers those days.

    • Yup I used it with my O2 XDA stealth. Was top of the range then

  • +3

Amazing forum, been using it since S2.

The community there really help you out with problems and the majority of the best ROMs are housed there.

    Awesome deal!

    • I remember using it back in the days when I actually had an O2 XDA phone, and was using it for help with said phone.

      • what i said 2 post above…

  • I'd had an imate pocket Pc back in the day. Awesome "smartphone".

  • yeah good place to the new tweaks and root stuff

  • nice timing.. was considering buying that just yesterday…

  • Thanks for this!

  • +1

Funny, last night I installed this app for free. I did not even know it used to cost money until seeing this deal :-)

[OZB][Free][AOSP-KLANG]Android App: XDA Premium Now Free (Was $1.69) @ Google Play [REMIXED][Kernel Tweaked]

      • ScroogeV3.13[Remuxed]

    • +1

      • What doesnt work: U TELL ME !!!!!
        LOGCAT OR GTFO plzzz

  • Was an avid reader of xda for some time and supported it but yeh had a time away and now I have no excuse to go back… Did use the free one before but yeh.

  • so.. usually people PAY to use a forum?

What is the internet coming to?

    • +2

People posting comments without having any idea what they're talking about? "What is the internet coming to?"

Accessing the forums is free, both on mobile and desktop. This is simply an optional app to make it easier.

      • Forums on mobile…. gah, not cool

      • I take it you didnt notice, or chose to ignore the question mark at the end of the sentence?

In future ill try to be clearer and include a parental advice of attempted humour.

nevertheless, paying for an app to access free forums? makes no sense to me and with the move to making it free, seems makes no sense to others?

        • Ha-ha very funny?

Hope you notice the question mark.

  • what is XDA stand for? something related to HTC and windows ce, as far as I can remember.

    • +2

Forums were created for the XDA II Pocket PC.

      • i think might be correct. also, that xda phones are made by HTC. HTC at the beginning only made phone for other companies, then later put their own brand until now.

  • Back when I was using ideos phones and Motorola defy I always would flash phones using roms off xda. Now that phones are a bit speedier these days I tend not to bother. Xda still an awesome forum though.

  • Is there any point to getting this app if you already have Tapatalk pro?

    • Yes

      • What are the benefits over it?

        • It does not get shittier and shittier with every update.
I have stopped using Tapatalk because of all crap that they are trying to shove down my throat.

  • Thanks OP.Got it.That thing aside,I still have no idea what to buy with 16 dollars of Play Credit from Google rewards.

    • if you have android, look through your most used app and then buy them. example: nova launcher, SU, mx player, etc

  • -1

I read through all the comments here and all i've been able to gather is that its a forum for people who like to tweak their mobiles.

Anyone else who tries to ask for anything more gets negged to oblivion or mocked. Wow great ozbargain

  • -1

TBH, this should never have costed anything.

    • +2

Do you work for free? No? So why should software developers?

  • I have been using the free version for some time. When replying to posts, it takes you to the web forum. The Premium version has more features, including being able to make quick replies within the app. I installed the Premium version on both my phone & tablet, but I had trouble logging in & it was very slow to load. Thus, I have reverted back to the free version….

    • Update: I tried the Premium app again and now it is functioning smoothy. I think the earlier problems with loading etc. were probably caused by my quite recent user name change.

  • Is this change permanent or only a promo?

  • Sorry but is this a forum app?

    • You have to have the app to use the forum.

  • Thanks alot OP.
Though I only use this on the desktop.
