France Travel Guide - 1016 pages

  • For the frugal traveller…
Libraries often offer digital Lonely Planet guides for loan.

Some guides are free in deals.
(eg Australia, Europe on a Shoestring, South-East Asia on a Shoestring, Great Britain Travel Guide, etc in 1 deal last year.)

Just checked 'Japan' - "just released" (Sept 2015) 14th edition in this deal, 13th free for 3 weeks (can extend) in library (but bound to be updated before my trip). There aren't that many updated details between editions for Japan.

Borrowed digital copy at start of Christmas trip to Japan, but never looked at it. Handy to have, but rarely read on numerous trips to different countries. Tend to read before trip to help with planning. So could download, read & plan, return, download again at start of trip.

Book copies of Lonely Planet & other guides are often free at backpackers hostels when you arrive in country. Many ditch them to avoid excess luggage cost. Picked up book version of 'Japan' (13th ed.) last trip.

Or just buy - $10 is nothing compared to holiday costs ;-)
