Qantas Frequent Flyer AutoRewards Question

Hi All,

Hope those of you who have been in the Qantas AutoRewards progam longer than I will be able to shed some light on this.

I signed up to the Qantas Frequent Flyer (Woolworth giftcard) Autorewards at the end of last month. On November 2, points were deducted from my Qantas FF account in exchange for the giftcard. (I have a valid email address, so I am assuming it is the egiftcard as opposed to the physical card).

However, I have yet to receive the egiftcard.

According to the AutoRewards FAQ : "Qantas Frequent Flyer will endeavour to deliver a Digital Gift Card within 10 days of the applicable Auto Reward Trigger Date." and

"If you do not receive your Physical Gift Card within 30 days, or you do not receive your Digital Gift Card within 10 days, you need to contact the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre (13 11 31)."

More than 10 days have passed.

So my questions are:
* Those of you in this program: have you received your egiftcard yet?
* Is this still within acceptable timeframes, and perhaps I should wait a little longer before following up.

Many thanks in advance.

Why don't you just call the Service Centre 13 11 31?

I received my gift card a couple of days ago. Given this is your first giftcard on this system, I suggest calling the Qantas service centre.

The cards are now issued as egiftcards.

The egiftcards are arriving much quicker than the physical giftcards but still too long given that most egiftcards from other providers can be done much quicker.

    • Yes, 30 days seem like a long time to receive a physical card. I was actually quite pleased that they now offer egiftcards. Hope they can sort out the problems with it quickly. Thanks again for your input.

  • Thanks guys, for the helpful comments.

So I have given them a call. Apparently, the delay is widespread due to their teething problems with egiftcards. The giftcards are expected to be sent out in the next couple of days.

Also, it is possible that points have been deducted and then refunded, for new signups. This is due to them believing that you have been signed up in error.

Hope this is helpful to someone in a situation similar to mine.

There were actually long term QFF members who had points taken out of their accounts even though they had never been signed up to Auto Rewards. QFF are busy figuring out which accounts were affected.

      • This must have kept them busy :-)

I must have been one of them victims. I received one few days ago and thought how strange, I've never signed up for eGift, I've always redeemed points my way. Anyway, just decided to spend it up at Woollies today and will let it continue, one less headache to remember.

        • I think autorewards work out to be more value for the points, than accumulating the points, then requesting a gift card.

          @bluesky:

          Yes, that's correct now.

When auto rewards started the coversion rate was lower than the other Woolworths group gift cards in the Qantas shop so I used to wait until I had $25 worth of points and then converted. Eventually the conversion rate in the Qantas shop went down and then the Auto Rewards cards became a better option.

@pointscrazy: autorewards are great actually if one tends to shop at Woollies, so it's all win win. In the past I would redeem from the Qantas Gift Shop until I realised what meagre value one point represented. 1 bottle of fragrance I redeemed cost me 3X in $ what I would have paid at a shop counter.

A friend of mine received their auto-rewards egiftcard today so it appears they are still working their way through the card distribution. I hope you get your card soon bluesky

        Thanks for letting us know.

  • Does anyone know the exact time of day they calculate the amount of gift cards to send you? Reason I ask is that I setup auto rewards at 1am this morning (1st May) and am not sure if am too late to get cards this quarter as the day of the calculation is also today (1st May).

The points usually don't leave the account until a couple of days into the month however they might do the calcuations on the first day of the month. I thought the deadline would be the last day of the previous month. Things may have changed now that the redemptions are on egiftcards.

Looks like I just made it in time. 3000 points has gone from the balance today so I should be receiving a $20 eGift card.

I was hoping that it would convert all my points as at this rate it will take years to convert them all to Woolworths cards.

If you've got that many points, check out how much the $50 and $100 gift cards are in the Qantas Store. They might offer a better conversion rate or at least give you access to your funds earlier than waiting for the auto rewards system.

At some point in the next few months you will be able to convert Woolworths Dollars to Qantas Points once you reach $10 in value. In the Woolworths Rewards FAQ and Terms and Conditions there is also a reference to be able to do this the other way, in other words converting existing QFF points to Woolworths Dollars. I have no idea what redemption rate they are going to use and whether it will be better or worse than the conversion rate of WWD to QFF points which will be 870 points credit for $10 Woolworths Dollars. This conversion rate is better than the current Auto Rewards program where 750 points equals $5 and you need 1500 QFF points for $10.

In other words, don't rush out to convert the points, see what the powers that be at Woolworths and QFF decide on.

@pointscrazy: In the Qantas store the eGift cards are the best value at 0.591c per point, the auto rewards rate is 0.666c per point which is over 10% more value. The conversion rate is the same between all the different demoninations.

I shall wait for the QFF to WWD program to start before converting anymore points, although I doubt they would convert back at $10 per 870 points, maybe they will be at the auto rewards rate.

I have since spent over $1000 shopping at Woollies, and because the items were not their orange sticker items, I have got only $0.51 in my account, never budged from that figure. Since then, I ditched Woollies and shop Aldi, IGA or Coles. The Coles FlyBuy $10 off your shop (when you accumulate 2000 FlyBuy points)seem to drop like flies on my lap, every 2.5 weeks I get $10 off my shop.

    • Yes, it is so hard to accumulate Woolworths Dollars nowadays, as it is no longer related to your spend.
In other words, they are not really rewarding customer loyalty anymore.
I also have less than a $ stuck in my account for a very long time now.

It's only any good if they send you a targeted offer of spend $x amount and get 5 or 10 WWD etc. They sent out a few in the last couple of weeks. I think they do it more at the end of each quarter to try boost the sales numbers for the report to share holders.
