I am currently with Vodafone. I am planning got with Amaysim. I have just completed a month when I got my sim on post. Would Vodafone charge for a full one month use or a fraction (depending on my usage?) when I take my number to a different career?

I have the same problem except that I'm moving to optus. They've confirmed that I will be charged for the whole month and not pro-rated.
Thanks guys. I am going to wait till I am close to the end of this month to activate my new sim.
I asked at Vodafone, I got a massive long speech blah blah blah about how contracts worked like I was retarded. I only asked if there was a cancellation fee.

Vodafone is different to most other carriers. They do not do pro-rata billing ie. they do not refund you a proportion of your access fee if you leave part way through a billing month.
It's not all bad though, it does mean you can use all the entitlements on say day 1 and not have to worry about aligning your usage with the days left.
My advice to you would be to wait until this month is nearly over and initiate the port with around 2 business days left in your cycle to allow for any porting issues.
