just buy it and stop asking tons of questions that snuke already answered patiently for you

      • -1

Dont think i buy any of them just stick with my apple tv boxes and chromecast and try and find ways of installing kodi or something on chromecast as probably not possable on apple tv,have xbox for games.

        • +3

first try installing windows on chromecast for smooth experience in Kodi

        • -1

My chromecast are still in there boxes so can you install windows to them where does one start and once done does kodi work, does anyone on herechave chromecast or even apple tv with kodi on it etc

        • +1

          @ozdesi:

          That's gold.

        • Reason in boxes sold a few months back cheap in officeworks thought you maybe able to do lots with them but find maybe not much different than apple tv,in other words was looking for ways to get more content to watch.
Have kept hold of them till i have a chance to see what can be done with them or just sell them and carry on with my apple tvs or maybe the chromecast and apple tvs are not want im after.

  • What shipping method did everyone pick?

AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping (averages 2-5 business days)

AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping (averages 7-11 business days)

AmazonGlobal Standard Shipping (averages 9-12 business days)

    ??

    • The cheapest one!

    • @yacman

AmazonGlobal Priority Shipping (averages 2-5 business days)

This option for me. Already received refund for shipping as it will not be delivered tomorrow 4th December. Held up in customs. Amazon still guarantee a delivery tomorrow before 8pm… not going to happen. UPS tracking shows it is still in Louisville, KY, United States.

Don't mind though. I can wait, brings my cost down to $205~ aud.

      • What so they have a policy if it's delayed delivery is free? WOW how much extra was priority, your paying over $30 AUD less than me

  • AMEX charges 3% conversion I am given an option to nominate the currency of my card, is this where I put AUD or USD? to pick the amazon conversion rate?

    • use Visa or Mastercard when down under

  • Edit - my mistake, was trying to test something and was saying I couldn't order another one when I was just trying a code.

  • I have a NAS + Kodi plus whatever else running through my main TV. Works well as I have it synched all up to my universal remote.

Have the WDTV Streaming Players in other two rooms - I tend to have sporadic network issues with one of them, and am in general just fed up with the tired UI and clunky controls. Came online to look at buying a Roku 3/4 and ended up with this. Cheers OP!

  • For people not getting 227 AUD double check you set both items to ship at once by default it is set to ship fastest (remote and shield) and that added a few dollars to the price this is in addition to making sure you have cheapest shipping set.

    • Sorry I selected this option (it was selected by default) and it seems to be the best option for the cheapest possible price, still comes up at AUD$237 with amazon conversion.

"Group my items into as few shipments as possible (currently selected)"

      • you have to pay in USD if you want to get 227 this was only to help people who where paying USD and still getting higher prices

        • oh ok, yeah I did that, but add 3% onto the exchanged price at .69c to $1USD worked out to be within like $2 of amazon, so I just did it with amazon to avoid any miscalculations, at least that way I knew what I was paying 100%.

Looks like I need a 28degrees or does this coles credit card have 0 conversion as well? it has better price protection from what I'm told

        • @yacman:

no idea on coles I use 28 degrees never had a problem with them

  • why I should buy this over a ps4 for $100 more?

    • +2

If you want to play PS4 games, you shouldn't.

      • Thanks, is this better for media watching though?

        • +2

          It most certainly is.

        • @daerka:
          thanks mate, missed out however..
Not gonna regret though as I missed out on the officeworks nikon deal earlier, but managed to get a d3200 today even cheaper!
So you can never guess the ozbargain hunt, sometimes think first buy later works out cheaper (please don't shoot me guys)

    • ps4 is power hungry i believe compared to this device

  • Can this thing properly deinterlace 1080i live TV? Looking to replace my HTPC and this is the area all of these media boxes fail.

  • Just for those that have a usa postal address, nvidia is presently having a sale snd for the same price you get a FREE REMOTE worth $50 US

    • Isn't that the one everyone has been getting? Just states on the listing it doesn't ship here, btw, you can actually order one.

  • Was gonna wait and build a Skylake PC but boy this is such a good deal. Trigger pulled!

  • I was originally going to buy a Intel celeron NUC to run openelec natively for streaming movies off my NAS, but saw this deal for similar moneys. Could someone please advise if this will perform better and do more for the price? Cheers.

  • +3

Don't need it, but really want it. Decisions…

  • 16GB AUD 285.32 delivered to Perth including stand.

  • I ended up buying one but for those not familiar with how to order, you will have to change the edition to include the remote (I did this from the phone). This is right underneath the pictures.
I hope this helps because I ordered one and realised the remote wasn't included so I had to cancel and reorder again.
So excited to get this now. Can't wait!

  • Deal is probably over soon can i not just add kodi to my pc and either stream to tv which is next to it with hdmi or stream over to a chromecast or apple tv.
I have xbox one for games or what can does this do that should make it worth buying?

  • Didn't need one, bought anyway just to try

  • i remember reading somewhere that there was some promotion with amazon for a $30 voucher when you buy this?

You had to register with a US address or something, it was a few weeks ago, so the promotion may be over now, anyone know anything about it?

  • Damn, waited too long trying to make the decision, product now unavailable.

  • May have got the last one, after I bought mine, I refreshed it and saw it say unavailable…

    Thanks OP!

  • Shows "In Stock" for me, and still at the same price point

    • Has gone out of stock, and then back in 3-4 times already.

  • Managed to get one. Ships on 3 December and expected 14 December in Melbourne.
28-degrees card is showing around $229. I guess, the actaul amount charged will appear in couple of days.

  • For those wondering. Mine costed $227.85 when paid by 28 degrees Mastercard.

    • Exactly the same on my Bankwest Zero Platinum :) Hopefully the AU$ enjoys its little boost for a few days till the charge finalises..

  • So I bought this yesterday. Doing the whole buy first ask questions later.

Will this come with an Australian power adapter or will I need to buy a US to AU converter ?

    Thanks

      • Can you trust that not to somehow short circuit and fry the unit? :/

        • I've used plenty of the cheap $1 ones from eBay on close to 10 different things, all of them have never had an issue with short circuit or anything (apart from some of them have a little issue with the pins contacting properly, but I've just bought a heap of them anyway so just replace it and throw out the other one).

        • @Porthos: cheers I'll give it a go then, for me I rather pay $5 if im risking damaging a $350 product. thanks

        • +1

@yacman: I don't really see a way that you could damage it, as all it's doing is converting the pins from | | to / \ so yeah, unless they completely screwed it somehow, you'll be fine! :-)

        • @Porthos: looking at this item that is Local Stock.

That looks exactaly the same, however it mentions this that is a little concerning:

          • Max output: 250V 10A

          and

PS It's mainly used for some low wattage products such as laptops, phone and so on.So it may not suitable for high wattage electric appliance.

          Shield under 10A?

        • @yacman:

          Shield under 10A?

          Well you'd hope so, considering a standard power point can supply 2400W (240v x 10A) :)

I don't know the exact power usage, but I wouldn't imagine it would be anything over even 20W.

        • @Porthos: LMAO showing my lack of knowledge on wattage's and amps. at least everyone else can read this and know what to get and where :)

      • If you buy 3 or more you get a discount, i purchased 5 for $4.75

        • wont get here in time though, will look for something similar local stock

        • @yacman: These are local stock and the seller was willing to do 3 for $5 direct through PayPal, will report back if I actually receive the items or I got scammed.

        • @yacman: Stock already arrived $5 for 3 of the adapters delivered! beats waiting till next year for the ones from china and local stock is mostly going for $20 each, private message these guys if you need an adapter and they will hopefully do a similar deal for you.

item not yet received so unable to verify if they work but given above comments, if all the holes fit (they do) then they won't have any issue working.

  • Missed out, anybody with buyers remorse, send me a PM :)

  • Buying now is $70 AUD more :( anyone's selling :)

  • +1

Jus did a Google search but I would like to confirmif anyone managed to use xbox360 controller using the wireless usb adapter?

    • Also curious about this, interested in an XBO controller as well?

  • Can anyone get Hulu to come up on the playstore?

    • You need to use a VPN

      • Hi I'm using Getflix.

        • DNS won't work, Getflix do offer a VPN service, use that.

        • @snuke:

          Thanks Snuke,

          HAvent tried their VPN service.

Is there much impact to the speed?

Also, do you know (or anyone else) if I can set the Static IP address for both Wifi and ethernet.

Set one up using the DNS and the other VPN? And the Shield remember this, so i can toggle?

        • @GLO:

VPN will always have a speed impact, use as required only, DNS for no speed impact and streaming.
Static IP no issue, as for toggling, I suspect so. From memory yo can;t toggle from WiFi to Ethernet, you need to reboot.

        • Setup DNS on the router.

Has anyone received it yet. Mine was due yesterday, now it is showing expected delivery today in Melbourne.

        • @spal: I received mine Wednesday last week, even though tracking still said it was in customs here. Was a good surprise to come home to!

        • @snuke:

Hi I tried the Getflix VPN and whilst I have side loaded the App and can log in, it still wont play any videos as it detects IP masking.

          Anyone else have any suggestions?

        • @GLO:

No idea, I haven't used Hulu on it. Ask in the WP thread as several on there have - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2379403

        • @GLO: Thanks mate. Received mine. I haven't setup yet. Needed to figure out dns setup. I am using getflix. Can you please pm me how to side load apps. I have dns setup on my R7000. However due to firmware updates I need to reinstall the router. Currently can't see it as it is sitting behind my modem (big pond modem).
          Thanks.

        • +1

          @spal:

Several videos available showing how to sideload, here are some- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3g158w3JUA & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ-RipoRFU8 & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfbceDoZDUk

I usually upload them to my Google Drive, then download them (CLOUD option), or to my NAS (LAN option)

        • @snuke: thanks buddy. I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Oddly enough it's working tonight without VPN.

What was different this time was that it asked me to register the device.

  • anyone managed to stream PC to the Shield TV. GeForce Experience shows that my PC (using GTX 750Ti) as Stream ready. I log both to my Nvidia account on my PC and Shield TV. tried to google for solution but no success.

    thanks
