HP Gen8 G1601T Graphics Card

Hi Ozbargain Gen8 owners,

Purchased my second HTPC (old N54L, New Gen8) from the latest Shopping Express Deal but having issue trying to find the correct graphcs card.
What i'm looking for is HDMI output (including audio), dual HDMI would be great but not really needed.
Issue is there is plenty of brands and variations of the same cards eg "HD6450" could refer to Gigabyte, Asus etc
Also time is of the essence so International shipping unless its superfast is not going to work.

Greatly appreciated if the community could point me to the right site/model/ideas

What is the question? Which exact card to buy?

    • Yes, if not the HD6450 then is there a better suited card?
And if the only choice is the HD6450 then what maker and where would I get one locally (Website in AUS)
Edited: the description was meant to say ASUS not AMD..

Well, the brands don't matter. It only matters if you're a gamer and are concerned with things like GPU overclocking, how it looks, how the cooler performs etc. Some cards may also be fanless (passive cooling).

Just buy whatever fits your requirements. Some cards have HDMI and Displayport. Some might only have HDMI, DVI and VGA. Either case you can just plug in a HDMI adapter into the DP and DVI port, and for sound the native HDMI port will give you that.

    • Not a gamer.
A passive cooled asus HD5450 is previously whats been used in the N54L but other forums say you should get the next step up from that card for the Gen8's. Issue is I'm having problems finding Australian stock fast enough and with slight performance differences between brands in HD6450 i would like to chose the better of the basic cards.

I did see other cards that could be used but not many people give a straight answer as to what works..

Plex 1080p is about as much as it will ever have to output, just wanting efficiency, good price in stock in this country, after all its just a cheap MicroServer.

You're wrong actually. HD6450 will always refer to the graphical chipset / GPU from AMD. There will be minor variation in performance between the different brands.

What matters far more for you is making sure the card you buy will fit in the cramped microserver chassis. I found one link: http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/8015-hd645…

He says the card has DVI and HDMI, you can convert DVI to HDMI for 1080p full HD output with a simple ~$2-$5 converter. That would give you the two HDMI outputs you're after.

The safest is to buy a card someone has already used with the Microserver Gen8.

Of course, if you're looking to put in a graphics card, it makes no sense to buy the Microserver. There are much more suitable devices. But I had that argument with someone here before and didn't get anywhere.

    • Agreed, I have seen that link and i'm having issue finding the card.
Sadly the DVI to HDMI adapter means i'll lose audio on that output but as mentioned its not really needed.
On your point about the server itself for my purpose; I have use for it in a dual sense. One being the HDMI output to my TV for the HTPC being replaced (sold) and Two, using it's functionality as a server making use of ilo when abroad and having clients (laptops/ ipads etc) within the household and abroad.

I appreciate your comment mate, you'll get no argument from me for being helpful :)
