Telstra - Galaxy Tab A 8" 4G for Extra $5/Month with Broadband Bundle

100

Telstra is offering Xmas deal on TAB A8" when you ring them up (1800 332 951) for Recontract their broadband bundle.

I signed up for the M size deal as a previous customer and still able to get the same deal as new customers.
ie, extra 200GB and free T-gateway (I actually managed to get the Max as I got an email offer.)

best part was the offer to have the Galaxy Tab A 8" 4G for an extra $5 - including sim and 250mb (maybe 500mb? wasn't sure) data per month.

currently this is a $25 per month deal (with 2.5gb data), or $15 per month if you connect with another phone plan.

  • This might be bait to keep you locked in in 12 months when the hfc network transfers to nbn.

    • are you saying cable internet will become nbn type cable?

      • My area isn't currently set to receive NBN, instead opting for an upgrade to the HFC network. (Not until '16 - '17 though.)

        • Yeah the hfc network is the Telstra and optus cable networks with some extra nbn stuff added and a protocol upgrade. Nbn will own it and then you can shift away from your existing contract to any nbn reseller.

        • @sillyhead: Ah, fair enough. I hope it's better than the cable is around here after 5PM. Starts to slow riiiight down.

        • @OverburdenedWarrior:
Yeah I think it may be a real problem actually, might be slower than having everyone on separate privately owned networks and ADSL. Then I told you so Malcolm will trott out, after ruining the NBN and say that we should have left it to the free market…

    • probably is… I also rang Optus, and they're also throwing lots of goodies to get me to sign… but this is a better deal.

  • Isn't the M plan 200+200gb?

    • Edit: oops I was wrong, I'm on the m bundle but only get 100+100

    • this is the M plan for bundle (with phone) 200GB + 200GB for $89 with out the tablet.
usually only for new customer. Yup new customer, always get better deal… dump idea in my book.

  • Im a telstra cable customer for 3 years now and I havent recieved any email, nor can I read where it says anything about a tablet resign deal? Am I missing something?

      nice ….

      • Nice what?

Meant to reply to op, sorry mate… :)

    • the tablet deal is not advertise anywhere… I asked.
this is essentially a big bait for you to update your plan and stuck with them for another 2yrs.
if yours is over 3 yrs, you should definitely should give them a call, I saved over $30 a month with more data and a tablet.

I tried to chat via the online help -> totally useless.

      • just called Telstra and they told me it is $5 for Tablet, $10 for 0.5GB monthly usage in addition to $89 M bundle

Are you sure you will be charged $10 monthly for 0.5GB ?

        • -1

the deal is $94 for the M bundle including the tablet and sim, and new Gateway Max for the Air thingie in my case.

        • @Sevenofnine:

it is not speedboost 10Mbps speed, right ?
just for fast 30Mbps speed ?

        • @Sidor: umm I got cable… and my speed test just now get me around 29.37Mbps and 1.19Mbps upload.

        • @Sevenofnine:

you have got fast speeds 30 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload.
I am on ultimate speed plan, 100/2 Mbps for $80 ($100 - $20/m discount), the good old family and friends bundle. My need to stick with it, and do not worry about Samsung Tab if I loose my disount.

        • @Sidor: cool, I didn't even know about the ultimate speed… i'll test again at other time to confirm.

        • @Sevenofnine:

it is $20 extra. You can sign up through My Account.

        • @Sidor: This is my speed too 100/2.

      • Im on the $80 p/m friends and family deal that was posted here about 3 years ago, what are you paying p/m if you dont mind me asking? Are you saying that I can recontract for $85 for 2 years and essentially get a samsung tablet for $120?

Ive also always been tempted by the t box deals for a sports channel or two but wouldnt go over 15-20 p/m for it.

        • I am on the same plan, $80 per month for 500GB ultimate speed and Telstra is ready to recontract me for $104 ($89 + $5 for Tab + $10 for 0.5G Tab usage). And I believe their $89 bundle will not give you ultimate/speedboost speed. Told them forget about recontracting.

        • yes. I was on an Everyday bumble $105 plan before ! managed to resign for $94 with 200GB extra and $120 for the tablet with sim.

        • @Sidor: What about without the +$10 for data and just use it over wifi? $120 for a tablet albeit on a contract is a bargain. Ill ring them up myself and see how i go.

        • @thedude23:

The rep I was talking to told me I need to pay for usage as well. Did not ask her if I want on WiFi only

  • From Telstra live chat: "If you recontract your bundle to one of our current bundle plans, like the Bundle M plan for $89/month, you can also get a Samsung Tab A on a 500MB plan for $15/month ($5 for the tablet, $10 for the plan)".

    • the live chat is another team I think… I also tried them, no luck.

To OP, keep an eye on your next Telstra bill. cause it is Telstra :)

    • +1

Yep. Guaranteed to be a double up in there somewhere.

    • damm …hope not.
hate to have a "conversation" with the Team Lead… :-|

seriously, I did confirm about the total this is going to cost me and he sent me his ID, and told me if anyone having issue getting the deal to contact him.

so, if anyone having issue and really want the deal, I'll forward you his ID. you just have to call the number from the description and ask for him, he'll call you back if he is not available at that time.

      • Can you please forward me his details?
I only just signed up two days ago and didn't get the bonus data.

        • not sure what they can do for you once you signed. The idea is to ask before recontracted… if you're a new customer, then the bonus data should applied, just call again and ask about the xmas bonus.

  • i called Telstra, to try to recontract to L plan. i can get additional 300G or Telstra Gateway max for cable for free. only can pickup one. so i give up, my current plan is better.

  • I don't think this is a good deal. Just focus on the tablet. $5*24=$120 for this tablet is fine but not bargain. The tablet only comes with low res screen, low end quad core and 1.5G RAM, On android devices, any device has less than 2G RAM should be ignored because it could be slow.

Someone may say some budget phones like ZTE FIT, Telstra Buzz 4G only come with 1G RAM and quite fast. but they may only cost $49. That's why I say this $120 tablet is fine but not a bargain. If $10/m for the plan is required, it's def not a deal…

    • +2

are you telling everyone that getting a Galaxy Tab A 8" 4G (rrp over $450) for $120 is NOT a bargain.

  • Hi Sevenofnine

Could i have his details i tried two way today to get this deal as i have been out of contract for a bit both times i got told no it is only for new customers not reconnects i can recontact for 24mths but drop from 500gb to 200gb
please tell me how you did

    • @tightfreddy99: I'll forward you his name and ID, you can call the number and ask for him… hopefully he can help you. did you get an email regarding recontract to get the Max modem… that was, you'll also get the new modem for Air wifi thing.

umm can't send message—- you'll need to open to accept conversation … I'll check back later today

      • Try now

      • hi Can you please send me the rep name and id as well? thank you!!

  • +1

The way the reps explained the Samsung Tablet deal: It's $15 p/m for the tablet and 500mb, but because they value their customers (haha), they are giving a $10 discount. Bringing it down to the $5 a month.

Can confirm you need to call the number provided by OP to get the deal.
