    Good one.

    +1 for crediting theearth

Telstra $30 Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit for $5

This deserves a deal on its own

  • I don't think the $25 voucher will work on Sony A6000 body + 16-50mm kit lens, the voucher will revert everything to full price.

    • I second this; voucher didn't work for me and I was told that I was already getting a discount for the bundle.
Also this shows up as a 'bundle' on the website but HN are sometimes labelling these kits as a 'package' deal which are excluded from their Price Match Guarantee. I managed to price match just fine on their last sale but YMMV

    • Ahhh, that's a pity. So that's $692 then?

  • Any deals on Sony nex lenses @ HN?

  • People still use buckscoop? Hah.

    • +2

      People still use HN? Hah.*

*Disclaimer - only if it's really cheap compared to everywhere else and only to hurt Gerry's business model by never buying a bogus extra warranty or overpriced accessories.

  • +1

great deal. a $27 price drop from previous offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220716. too bad HN's price drop guarantee only applies +/- 7 days so those who got it in the previous offer have no luck getting price matched

    • Assuming the $25 voucher works, it hasn't in the past.

      • i'm confused. so this is listed as $692 minus $25 sign on voucher discount = $667? After which, minus $150 sony visa card?

if so, then it is indeed only $2 lower than the previous offer.

like many others have mentioned, i can also confirm that the $25 sign on voucher did not work on the a6000 last time.

        • Yes, yes and yes. I got one in the last sale too and the $25 didn't work.

    • 28 Degrees to rescue!

  • +2

    iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi 16GB $273 using your $25 voucher [$332 @ Officeworks]

How does the iPad mini come down to $273 after the $25 voucher. The cheapest one on their page is $332?

    • Starting tomorrow

      • Ahhh, thanks. Rookie mistake. My bad.

    • Was just about to post this.

Tried working it out and things still didn't add up. You can't price match at Officeworks at $332 as its the same price and not lower.

      • Think it means that it will be $273 tomorrow with the $25 voucher, as a comparison officeworks has it for $332

  • how does the $150 bonus work? you get visa card which preloaded wit $150 and you can spend it on certain shops only?

    • +4

If it's the Harvey Norman VISA card, it acts as a normal EFTPOS card and can use it anywhere. I got 3 of them from Harvey Norman, went to AusPost and deposited the money into my everyday bank account. (Using Bank@Post and use the Savings mode when drawing money out of the card).

      • i think this visa card is issued by sony Australia, but it doesn't specify where to spend in T&C…

        • +1

Yep looks like it's a redemption card. If that's the case, it will probably be issued by GiftCardPlanet. I have also received these types of cards, but the Bank@Post trick did not work. However I could withdraw the money from any bank ATM using the credit account on the card. Luckily for me, they loaded an extra $2 on to each card, so I just had to find a ATM that had a $2 transaction withdrawal fee to get the whole amount in cash. (For me that was NAB).

  • i'm still not recieve the camera from last deal :'(

  • Good price for Sony A6000! But I feel glad that my Nikon D5500 performs a bit better on DxoMark, although my gut feeling tells me live histogram on EVF is a fantastic thing for Alphas…

    • +2

Yeah, I wouldn't really trust DxoMark.

      http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/DxO-ONE-…

That shows their own brand crappy camera beating the D5500.

Regardless, don't just rely on sensor scores. I have the a6000 and would say the battery life and the way it feels in the hand are the main downsides.

      • If only Sony had a good collection of lens with reasonable price, I'd be shooting on Sony A6000 right now. But the world is not ideal and I'm poor…

I got the Nikon telling myself its poor mans Sony. ;)

        • I've had the A6000 for about a year now, and my biggest complaint would be lack of lens choice - there's only one decent zoom for it (18-105G).

The Sony lenses are oh-my-fugging-god expensive compared to other systems. Sony has also let the APS-C ecosystem languish, with their hyper-focus on full-frame A7.

Handling is actually ok (but, not as comfy as a DSLR), and battery life tends not to be an issue in real life. http://www.betterbatt.com.au/ has cheap spares and a charger (works on the sony battery too).

The one thing I have zero complaints about, is image quality - its great.

        • @qwijibo:
I took one to Europe and used a xiaomi powerbank to charge it if it needed it and never had any issues. So agree that battery life in real life use is a non issue.

  • +1

Where is the price for the A6000 I can't see it online its 1198 online

  • +1

Thanks OP, glad i paid with coles MC a month ago.

  • Gerry, you big scumbag

  • If I add another Len for Sony A6000, do I able to get the $400 gift card as well? How is their invoice looks like?
    http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/summerwithsony/

    • +2

Unfortunately not, the Sony promotion specified which lens qualify for the visa card.

      SEL90M28G, SEL70200G, SEL2470Z, SEL55F18Z, SEL35F14Z, SEL1635Z, SELP28135G and SEL35F28Z

The kit lens is not part of the qualified lens.

The invoice will show A6000 body only and the kit lens as separate items, which makes the purchase qualify for the $150 visa card

  • My Gs6 edge takes better photos than My a6000..I must be doing something wrong. I need a deal on Lenses for this camera.

    • +3

Phone cameras are improving a lot nowadays, virtually everyone I know don't use a camera anymore because their phones more than make up for it.

      • What's a good e mount lens that can capture photos like in this link ? : http://www.hex-gear.com/hall-of-fame/ I tried with the 16/50mm lens but doesn't work ;/

        • +1

Good lighting is the key. Most of the shots on that page can be achieved with the stock lens, you just need to light the subject properly with either diffused flashes or well-placed lights.

      • Improving yes, but a phone camera is not really comparable to a real DSLR. That said, a good phone camera (e.g. SGS6 or i6s+) can really compete with lower end point and shoots.

    • +3

If you're just using it like a point-and-shoot camera and/or comparing the photos on an amoled screen vs a poor-quality computer monitor, then that's definitely possible.

The A6000 is far, far more capable than a phone. If you use it properly, it will absolutely, positively, without a doubt, put the S6 to shame, then stomp all over it while laughing at it.

      Some things to try:

Try take photos when it's darker, e.g. indoors.

Also try taking photos when it's very dark, and use the multi-frame noise reduction feature on the A6000.

Zoom in when taking the photo and compare the two.

Long exposure photography simply isn't possible on the S6.

      etc etc

      • thanks, will try those.

        • The camera on my S6 is my most heavily-used camera. I love it for what it's designed to do. But for more "serious" shots, it comes nowhere close to my sony nex7. The A6000 is better than the nex7.

    • +3

If you cant tell the differnce between your phone camera and an apsc mirrorless camera, then sell your a6000 as you definitely dont need it.

      • +1

I like my a6000 lol, just suck at using it.

  • +1

I want to know the iphone 6s 64gb price. How can I know the price on Saturday? Many thanks

  • +1

Is there any price for iPhone 6s Plus 16gb and 64gb?
    Thanks

    • Also interested.

  • Any cheap TV or washing machine?

  • damn, it's the 5100 I really want (selfie screen FTW) but I can't find it cheaper than the a6000.

    • I bought the Canon EOS M3 because it has that and mic input. Probably would have bought the A6000 had it had those features.

  • I know that this starts tomorrow but does anyone know what time the deals will activate?

    • Past mid-nightish or more aligned to store hours?

      • Last time they had a super Saturday, deals were active around midnight AEDT

  • the $25 voucher can only be spent online, so Saturday promotion is available online as well?

    • same question here, can you pay online with the voucher and pick up in person on the same day

  • Any chance that macbooks will be included in the sale?

  • TA, pls bring HN on board.

    • thats gonna be Hardly Normal!

  • I'm planning to go to NZ and do some stargazing and landscape photography. but i already have a sony rx100m3. is it worth buying the sony a6000?

    • +1

not really, rx100m3 is super nice for photography alreay, save the bucks for other things is better :)

    • +2

A6000 is a way better than RX100M3 even M4, specially in low-light performance which you are interested in. One is a point & shoot, another is APS-C Mirroless, they are not at the same level.

    • +1

I say yes, because you can get ultra wide lenses for the A6000. Landscapes and UWAs go together nicely.

    • +1

Stick with your rx100iii. The lens in the rx100iii will outperform the a6000 kit lens.

      • +1

The biggest point of getting an interchangeable lens camera like the a6000 is that you can… change lenses.

        • +1

And the biggest point of OzBargain is the bargains. Adding a Sony 10-18/4 lens is another $900+, bringing the total with the a6000 to $1567. The rx100iii is an already very capable camera for most people.

        • @Orpheus: So let me get this straight. You are actually saying that the A6000 is no better than the RX100 mk3 for landscape and astrophotography, therefore the OP should stick with the RX100?

I hope you realize that a bargain doesn't simply mean the cheapest price for whatever the thing is, regardless of performance.

        • @eug: Yes. Unless the OP wants to spend $1500+ with a suitable lens to use besides the average 16-50 kit lens. But according to your logic, why stop there? Might as well get a full frame a7sII with LA-EA3 adapter and a Sony Zeiss 16-35/2.8 for the ultimate in picture quality. It’ll only cost $6500, but thats okay because performance is the most important thing! Totally worth it for a few holiday snaps.

        • @Orpheus:

Unless the OP wants to spend $1500+ with a suitable lens to use

You do realize there are other lenses available, right?

But according to your logic, why stop there?

According to your logic, why not just use a phone? The Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 have cameras that are very capable for most people. The OP might already have one so he might as well sell his RX100 mk3 and keep the money.

        • @eug: what lens would you recommend for landscape/astro photography?

A phone does not have an EVF or tilt screen and has totally different ergonomics from a camera. If he has no need for those things, then yes he doesnt need a camera.

        • @Orpheus:

what lens would you recommend for landscape/astro photography?

It depends on what the OP wants to shoot and what quality is required. Something like the Sony 16mm prime with the UWA converter can be a start.

If he has no need for those things, then yes he doesnt need a camera.

Now you're making up conditions just to suit your scenario.

        • @eug: Youre recommending the old poor 16mm kit lens from the original NEX-5? Theres a reason why Sony discontinued it and replaced it with the 20/2.8. The lens on the rx100iii easily beats that. Youll have to stop down the 16mm to f8-f10 for decent sharpness, whereas the rx100iii is sharp wide open. Low light on the rx100iii will be better as well with f/1.8 and image stabilisation compared to soft images wide open with the 16/2.8 and no IS. A poor recommendation. Why bother getting another camera just to mount average kit lenses on it to get no better performance?

And FYI the cameras in the current generation of iphones and s6/g4 are very good and equal to entry level kit lenses. Youre the one who made the hypothetical scenario up, not me.

        • @Orpheus:

Youll have to stop down the 16mm to f8-f10 for decent sharpness

Perhaps you've never taken landscapes? f/8-10 is what you'd start at.

Anyway since this isn't about what you need (the OP hasn't given more info, you're simply making assumptions based on what you want), I won't bother waffling on.

        • @eug: hey guys I appreciate all the information you have given me it means a lot. I'm just starting out in photography, I've started watching the creative live fundamentals of photography by John greengo previously posted on ozbargain so I have not much clue about the terminology you've said but I'm surely I'll pick it up as I keep watching.

I'm interested in landscape, star nights, sunsets and silhouettes when I go to NZ in mid Jan. The kind of stuff Chris Burkard does.

I'm just not sure of the Sony a6000 is much of an upgrade from my rx100iii. Essentially the a6000 will end up costing 517$ (after I deposit the $150 visa into my savings account as mentioned earlier in the comments)

        • @eug: And f/8-10 on the 16mm is average acceptable. No idea why you would recommend another mediocre kit lens to get the most out of the a6000.

        • @rockman117: The a6000 with the 16-50mm powerzoom kit lens will not be a step up from the rx100iii. If thats all youre going to get, its north worth it. Youll need to spend a fair bit more for better glass to get the most out of the sensor. The $900 Sony 10-18/4 would be the best choice for wide landscapes. Another choice is the Samyang 12/2 which is a wide fixed prime, manual focus only lens for $500, but may be too limiting.

        • @Orpheus: ahh dam i already bought it - couldn't resist ended up being $479.7 with TRS and $150 eftpos card. does Harvey Norman do refunds for change of mind? otherwise maybe someone wanna buy it from me?

i found a cool guide on astrophotography for sony rx100. http://www.lonelyspeck.com/beginner-astrophotography-kit/ it made me appreciate my sony rx100, hence the change of mind. i should have really done more research on how to make the most of my sony rx100. but thanks for all your help guys. :)

        • +1

          @rockman117:

I'm just starting out in photography, I've started watching the creative live fundamentals of photography by John greengo previously posted on ozbargain so I have not much clue about the terminology you've said but I'm surely I'll pick it up as I keep watching.

Sounds like you are getting serious. As with all things, there is no straight answer.

There are two types of photography buffs, you have to figure out which type you are. There's no right or wrong type as different people enjoy different aspects of photography. But it is good to know which type you are, so people will know what to recommend to you.

There's the type who sees photography as a science. Technical specifications are very important - a lens must be perfectly sharp, CA must be well-controlled, have very minimal, noncomplex distortion, no obvious pincushion or barrelling, etc. They love lens MTF charts and debate on forums about Sigma's A-series vs Canon's L glass. Photos must have minimal noise and no blur.

Then there's the type who sees photography as an art. Yes, technical specifications are important, but they put more importance on the content of the photo. What is the composition like? What is the message behind the photo? Does the photo flow to the eye? Does it evoke emotion, or any sort of feeling? The photo does not need to be perfectly sharp corner-to-corner or even completely in focus - it's the subject and the composition that's most important.

I tend to lean towards the second group more than the first, which is why I would personally use the A6000 instead. I find being constrained to the RX100's 24-70mm equiv focal length a bit limiting. I had the RX100 mk2 which I used as a second camera for one of my trips to complement my Sony NEX-7. It worked very, very well for a camera of its size, but it was definitely less sensitive than my NEX and a lot slower in operation as there are minimal physical controls on it. I also missed being able to go down to 16mm equiv for landscapes. Ergonomics on the NEX was much better too.

It would be pretty difficult to do stuff like Chris Burkard with an RX100. He uses the Sony A7rii and A7s ii as his main cameras and the A6000 when he needs a lightweight kit. His general-purpose lens is a 24-70mm and his landscape/astrophotography lens is a 16-35mm - for the UWA end.

A circular polarizer is something you'd also almost definitely want for landscapes. You cannot screw on a CPL onto the RX100 as there is no lens thread, unless you get something like a MagFilter, which I had for my RX100. It worked, but I found it cumbersome as rotating the CPL could rotate the magfilter itself too. I bought the MagFilter threaded adapter ring instead of the MagFilter CPL as I also wanted to attach a variable ND.

Hope that helps somewhat. Basically, my opinion is that if you are seriously into photography, you will quickly outgrow a camera with a fixed 24-70mm non-constant aperture lens with no lens thread. Also, as inferred to in my first post, I think an UWA lens will add some "wow!" to a landscape or night sky shot.

Since the A6000 will only cost you $479, you could just buy it, use it for your trip, then come back and sell it at maybe $500 on gumtree and make $21 profit. :)

There's a new Chromecast out there. I'd wait for the new one to release in Oz. Maybe this indicates a stock clearance for the new one.

  • A6000 with 16 - 50mm lens kit is showing up $792?

    • +2

I think the reason is in the name of the sale. :)

      • The deal isn't until tomorrow?

  • +1

    • How long do you usually have to wait until the order is ready?

  • Thanks :) Hopefully the a6000 is a decent upgrade to my old nex5.

Should mention that I have no problems with the nex5. Thanks again for lightening my wallet TA/OzB!!

  • Anyone know where the promotional catalogue for this sale came from? Is it a newspaper?

  • $25 voucher works when I made an order for the iPad Mini $273

  • Voucher worked on 2 Samsung 1tb hard drives $129

  • Nice. Just grabbed the Sony A6000 from my local store as well as a couple of Chromecasts. No dramas and registered for the $150 cashback easily. Cheers to OP.

    • did you order online and pick up in person? or did you just walk in and grab one

  • Where is your local store? i called few stores they keep saying no stock while online shows that they have stock for pickup.
