Woolworths/Big W to Exchange Dick Smith Vouchers to WISH Gift Cards - NO RECEIPT NEEDED

3150

Yep, as expected, woolies are matching coles. Feel sorry for all the people who sent their cards to kogan.

EDIT: While it doesn't require a receipt, it does state that it only applies to cards purchased from Woolworths/Big W. Theres a good chance that they can trace purchase location, so you should only trade in cards purchased from their stores.

Customers who have purchased Dick Smith gift cards from Woolworths Supermarkets or BIG W stores can exchange the unredeemed value on their cards for Woolworths WISH gift cards which can be used at participating stores across the Woolworths group, including all Woolworths Supermarkets, and BIG W, Thomas Dux, Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Masters and Caltex Woolworths stores.

Unredeemed Dick Smith gift cards bought at Woolworths Supermarkets and BIG W can be exchanged, by filling out the redemption form below until 7 March 2016.

To access the form simply click here and save and print the file.

Once completed send the form and physical Dick Smith Gift Cards to:
Woolworths Limited.

        • @The Land of Smeg: the moral of the story is as a consumer your rights are protected, as a creditor theyre not. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to trade

        • @CandyMan: I would be interested to get a lawyer's opinion on that. I thought that consumers only had rights against companies who aren't in administration/receivership.

The other side is that sure you may have RIGHTS but no way to exercise those rights in practice is there is no money left to actually claim against those rights after other creditors have claimed their RIGHTS too.

        • @macrocephalic: when a company goes into administration, for all imtents & purposes the old company ceases to exist. So my understanding is that consumer affairs/fair trading are unable to do anything.

Lesson learned, don't accept gift cards in lieu of cash when you're owed cash.

      • If I ever read the whole "treat this card like you would cash" clause at the back of another gift card, I will slap someone

        • Oh, it has all the disadvantages of cash: if stolen it is gone. Just none of the advantages. Well, maybe a small one: what's worse, receiving a fake $50 note or a gift card from a company that then goes under?

        • +1

@team teri: Depends how good the fake is?

        • @smalltime0: wouldn't you usually only know it is fake if a store won't accept it? Unless of course it is such a bad fake that you notice when someone tries to give it to you, but then it would not be your problem…

    • +2

      Filling in for JV?!

Ummm you get to redeem a worthless gift card traded for something of value. The size of the bargain will depend on how much unredeemed credit was on the orginal DS card. Seems be to a bargain to me.

    • +1

Exchange worthless gift cards to woolies gift cards is a bargain to me. It may not be a bargain for you but for many people it is

    • bargain for those with crystal balls

  • How would they find out what the remaining value is on these now-defunct cards??

      • -1

        That site doesn't work though…

        • +1

          It did for me

        • @puffinfresh:

Apologies - it is working now.

          Thanks.

        • @KaptnKaos:
Oh, I thought you meant after entering details, rather than the site not actually loading at all. That was my fault. I put the incorrect link first (missed the www.) then edited it straight away.

        • @puffinfresh: Posted link still dead. However, the go to deal link works.

        • @IndecentExposure:

          Fixed now thanks

    • The cards are not defunct - simply not honoured by the administrators. Any value would result in them being unsecured creditors (prior to the Coles and Woolworths redemption)

    • Isn't it only unused cards?

  • +2

Well done to Woolies and Big W……because I couldn't see much left for unsecured creditors after the Banks sink their claws into DSE (and the DSE employees buying up all the great deals pre-fire sale).

  • Someone at Kogan is going to make a lot cashing in those DSE cards at W or C.

    • Nah, they don't have the Coles/Woolies receipt to go along with it

    • Both WW and Coles require receipts for all exchanges.

Kogan staff can't do anything there.

  • +1

Go and convert all your DS gift card as soon as possible ! You don't want them to show you the famous eBay message (can't remember exactly): "Error: All the Balance for this promotion is exhausted".

They could end this 'promotion' much earlier, just like what eBay usually did.

  • +3

None of this helps me so far!

Woolies: didn't buy any DS gc from them.
Coles: bought $110 in June, their cut off is July.
    Kogan: thanks but no thanks.

    So, I'll wait:

    /for DS to be revived
/another company to make an offer
    /register as an unsecured creditor

    • Alas the first 2 won't likely accept prior gift cards. 3rd option is your best choice.

      • I've got a combined balance of about $80-90 across 3 cards, I ain't giving Kogan more than he's giving me! Lol

        • +1

Cant u get $25 kogan credit for each card? Then it adds up to $75

        • +1

          @cash8:

Kogan's *Terms and Conditions: Limit of one voucher per customer.

Whilst it might still be achievable, my highest value GC is $55 - and not worth the risk for me, for Kogan credit.

I am waiting on a $10 GC from DS Online (that will probably never arrive) but if it does, I might try it. The other one is ~$30

Above all else, I don't really have anything I need, bought a new phone and lots of cables, headphones, accessories in recent weeks…

    • +1

      Mine is much worse:

I need Apple to honor this $999 online purchase.

      • Yep, you win :-(

      • You should try to go to DSE store and ask the staff nicely to see if you can pick up instore for your order. They may help you out if they can.

  • +1

How many people would have kept the receipt from their gift card purchase?

    • I don't keep the receipt once confirmed the card is active and the amount is Correct via dicksmithgiftcard.com.au

    • As an actual gift to someone, probably no one will keep the receipt.

If it is for yourself, for a new unused card, probably 50% people will keep it just in case there is any problem using it.

After you start using it successfully, you will assume the remaining balance is fine and I don't think anyone will keep the receipts.

    • +2

We usually keep all receipts. Although we go shopping lots (we like our groceries fresh) they don't take up more than a couple of Rocher boxes per year.

You'd be surprised how often those receipts come in handy…

    • If you swiped your EDR loyalty card, then you shouldn't need a receipt as they have a record of everything you bought. That'd be my approach.

  • Do you guys think Dick will stay down or will he rear his head up again? =)

    • Dick (Smith) is alive and well - and has nothing to do with this business.

Or did you mean the company?

'He' and 'his' refers to a human, not a corporate identity.

I hope the business is revived :-)

    • +1

Depends if he feel horny or not

  • -2

Can anyone list out a step by step on how to swap the cards, like the Kogan deals?

I know it needs a receipt but what do we need to do? Just walk in a Woolies store and ask for a swap?

  • +5

Coles is always one step ahead. Woolies can only follow suit. Sadness. Marketing team deserve to be sacked

    • Yep i bet Woolies is only doing this because Coles started it.

    • +2

Who cares, the fact that it is being done AT ALL… is amazing.

    • Yeah woolies marketing has been losing ground lately

    • Has been this way for years, even the school equipment promotion was started by Coles.

    • close might have sold Lot less ($$ ) DS card compare to Woolies, Coles could have stared this offer to put pressure on Woolies.

  • +1

So do you get the 10% off DSC at total price at Woolies?
    Thats a Bargain!

  • I don't get it, how do they know the cards are valid.

If I'm a staff, I'll pick up a dozen of useless dicksmith gift cards, invalidated, and swapped it.

    • +1

I'm sure they check the giftcard balance through dick smiths website before sending out the new cards.

  • +6

Not unexpected move by Coles and Woolies. If you are lodge charge-backs via your credit cards, Coles and Woolies will have to wear the losses anyway. So why not change them with their own giftcards and reduce their losses that way

    • Presuming a chargeback against coles/woolies would even be successful, which it probably wouldn't be. With the amount of red tape involved most people wouldn't even attempt to claim it back from Coles/WW. They are really doing their customers are solid favour here. Yeah their gift cards go back to them, but everything they sell still has a certain cost to them (no different to a DS gift card having the profits going back to DS), and Coles/WW gift card networks probably have the largest range of products across so many businesses that it is impossible not to find something or end up spending it on purchases you would have made anyway (even if it's just your groceries). Of all the store-specific giftcards in Australia, Coles/Woolworths are almost as good as cash.

    • Well it's not happening with ME bank that's for sure. Their reply is that they cannot process chargebacks on any dicksmith cards.

  • Anybody know woolworth/Big W has a cut-off date of swap? coles made it after 1 of July 2015 which i bought on June 28.

  • +1

Good for the few who bought from these places and actually have their receipts. Sucks for ones purchased at DS like mine and no doubt hundreds of others who received them as gifts :|

  • Now Mwave are doing similar to Koge's ($20 credit)
    http://www.mwave.com.au/blog/2016/1/8/trade-in-your-useless-…

    • +1

If you have an electronic gift card anything to stop you claiming vouchers off Kogan, MWave and others by printing off several copies?

Since they can only check the balance and not redeem them how would they know?

My money is the $20/$25 ones are just a marketing promo and you could send in used ones and they may not bother checking.

Maybe not ethical, but then is any of this…

  • +1

Just went to wws but they say they have no idea about the exchange and wouldn't do that.. What happened??

    • +1

If it's anything like Cole's exchange program you will be required to send your cards in to Head Office with your proof of purchase before you receive your new cards.

  • +1

I rang WW this afternoon and they said they will have an online media statement and form setup on their website by tomorrow as they are setting it up today. I guess check back tomorrow. Hope that helps :)

    • Thanks for your information! Will see tmr!

  • -4

this belongs in the forum, not a bargain

  • as I mentioned in the coles post - so they should do this, coles and woolies sold a product that was worthless only a short time later. There was no reasonable time that the cards could be used , just days isnt reasonable.

    • -1

One could argue that you should have known better than to buy a card you didn't have time to use.

My point is that Coles and Woolies didn't know Dick Smith was going under any more than you did.

    PROCEDUE:-

Exchange your Dick Smith Gift Card for a WISH Gift Card

To access the form simply click here (https://www.woolworths.com.au/content/content/WoolworthsDick…) and save and print the file.

Once completed send the form and physical Dick Smith Gift Cards to:
    Woolworths Limited.

    • This doesn't say anything about a receipt, nor time range, nor customer. Almost seems like they might just check the balance and be done with it. Wonder how they audit the system.

I bought $200 worth of dicksmith giftcards on the blender deal a while ago. They didn't deliver it after 4 weeks so I demanded a refunded and bought the cheaper one from the Good Guys. Three weeks later they gave me $200 back in giftcards to an old address as opposed to my stated delivery address (luckily it was my mum's place).

Now I've used the giftcards I bought from Woolworths even though it's the same credit. Wonder if Woolies will give me a refund.

For those of you who don't know, anyone can check your balance by going here:
      https://www.dicksmithgiftcard.com.au/login.aspx?program=1005…

      • There might be some Coles customers tempted to take a risk and send their cards into Woolies, but i dont think it would be as easy as that. They must have a database with all activated DS cards and cross reference that list with the cards that get sent in.

    • If Woolworth don't need receipt to proof…I will like Woolworths more than Coles although they follow Coles's step

  • +3

Woolworths is stepping up and helping properly. Woolworths don't require a receipt.
Coles are being sly and scamming people without a receipt even though they don't need one!

Imagine how many people don't have a receipt.
When you purchase a gift card they have to activate it in-store which is connected to a computer system.
They can tell that it was purchased at Coles.
Each Gift Card has its own 18 or 19 digit unique number.
They are only doing this to save face while putting the clause in that you need a receipt because they know most people would have thrown them out.

Well Done Woolworths shame on Coles

    • +6

I agree, all gift card have unique number and its easy to track back the POS from which store or which network. Such huge Gift card company's database should also keep the record while the card is active. I don't understand if Coles really want to help people, why they asking their customer to have a original receipt to make a claim.

      • +1

Totally agree, shame on Coles. We should all leave comments on Coles Facebook page so that they step it up and do a proper help not just to pull a marketing stunt. I am very sure Coles is the more aggressive seller of DSE. Most of the 10% DSE promo are from Coles, Woolworth only have DSE promotion recently.

    • I don't throw away a purchase receipt or activation receipt until I use the gift cards.

  • +3

The Woolies offer is actually better than the Coles offer. At least you can spend it anywhere in their group. The Coles gift card is for Coles only, unless they decide to send the Coles Group Myer cards out.

  • Hope people who send large amounts will register their mail. Imagine sending a few hundred bucks worth of DSE cards in the mail and getting it lost.

  • To send a letter it now costs $1.00 thank you Australia Post.

    • If you know a pensioner, ask them to buy concession stamps for you ;)

  • my situation is slightly different i bought a ww wish card, bought a few things with it including a Bluray player at Dick Smith, the player did not suit my needs so they took it back but gave me a DS gift card. do you think this would be elegible for the buy back? If i send it to them and it is not will they send it back?
I'm sure others are in a similar situation..

    • Best to call them and ask what will happen to gift cards sent in that can't be verified.

  • -1

It seems no one wants the dick, everyone wants to exchange it in…

Heh heheh heh.. Heh.. I'm sorry I'll show myself out.

    Great deal, cheers op

  • +1

Can anyone please tell me what to do if I have a DS giftcard which was issued by DS when I was getting a product refund in store - few months ago?Do I just throw this giftcard in the bin or there is something I could do to get use of its value? Thanks.

    • Interesting. I am in a similar position. I got a refund for faulty DS TV in form of gift cards issued by the warranty company. Not sure what can be done with GCs not issued by Coles/WW and Co. Regards

  • -1

I love it how people think Coles and Woolies are saviours. They are doing nothing more than what is expected of them in the first place. They would be liable for selling gift cards that aren't fit for purpose.

    Not to mention:

"But Coles and Woolworths, which pulled Dick Smith gift cards from shelves when the news of its collapse broke yesterday, declined to offer refunds." - 7 Jan 2016
    http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/calls-for-col…

    • Why are they liable again? Why don't u try to go to the numerous other retailers who sold a DS gift cards and try to get ur cash back.
Let me know how u go

  • Geez a lot can happen when one is on holidays. Thank god the missus still has the receipt and it was purchased from WW. Looks like I've some work to do. Thankful it's only $100 and not more…

  • Hmm so Coles and Woolworths will subsidise people who knew Dick was in trouble before Xmas but still took the 10% bait.

Effectively everybody who shops at Coles and/or Woolies and did not buy Dick Smith gift cards is subsidising these people.

    Not good.

    • These giftcards were sold almost everywhere, most people don't keep their receipt or have bought from Woolies. They could easily outnumber those who do. I guess this can make up the 10% difference?

  • well tiz about time I sent my gift card off. Just need to post it…
