Best time to buy return flight from Melbourne to LAX June - July 2016

Hi All,

When do you think the best time to buy a return flight from MEL to LAX with travel dates 22 June to 6 July would be?

I've been checking Skyscanner and the best price seems to be just over $1000 with other carriers being around $2000. Should I book or wait a little longer to see if there are any sales?

Thank-you.

  • We recently booked BNE to MCO (Orlando) for April/May 2016 return on Qantas. The wife wants to do Disney World after we have already done two trips to Disney Land in Anaheim.

Flights fluctuate in pricing every day.

We were looking on AA, Qantas, Adioso, IWTF, Sky Scanner, Virgin, Hello World, and more sites.

If it were me, I'd look at historical deals on Ozbargain for MEL to LAX and wait for a sensible price to come up (ie, about < $900 return).

    Good luck!

  • June July is traditionally a higher prioced timeframe, as it coincides with the US summer school holidays and also the Australian School Holidays

Depends on how much of a bargain you are looking for. $1K is not a bad price for a US trip, can go as low as $850 but keep in mind the holiday premium which makes it less likely to go down to this level.

That said the Aust Dollar dropped to below 70c and this may reduce US travel, so that may see fares reduced,

It all depends on whether you will kick yourself more if you pay above $1k or whether you will if it drops lower.

  • I'd say in the next month or so…

$1000 sounds good for a return flight to LAX presumably during our school holidays in (their) summer. It is also holidays for US schools.

As others said check for historic deals from IWTF etc but I personally wouldn't wait any longer than end of Feb

  • its $875 bris to dallas via lax. if it was anywhere else yes but whats there to do in dallas? argh and im ready to go!

  • $1,000 to LAX in June and July is a good price.
It's high season over there so the price is usually jacked up.

You're unlikely to find anything significantly cheaper.

Jan and Feb are probably the cheapest times to go, with lots of holidays in early Feb so lots of sales in shops.

  • I scored a $650 return deal last year with Air New Zealand, you could be lucky if they repeat this deal. Just wait, some special will pop up in the next couple of months, you've got plenty of time.
