What to do with unused Optus credit?

Hi folks - looking for suggestions as to what to do with some unused Optus credit! I got quite a few of their SIM cards earlier this year (when the Netflix offer was on, sold the phones via CEX :D). It has left me with a few SIM cards each with a couple of dollars on them. I managed to get Optus CS to combine them onto one account - which now has $12 in it and I'm looking for a useful way to use it up!

I've got a pay-monthly contract with them but as I understand things they can't transfer the credit across to that - any thoughts as to what I can do with it?!

Thanks

  • U can't get a refund? Prepaid or postpaid?

    • No this is prepaid credit, so they won't refund it AFAIK

  • You can donate multiples of $5 to charity by premium SMS: http://telcotogether.org/TextGiving.aspx

    • Thanks - could be handy for the main credit but have some $2/$3 ones too that it'd be good to clear out

      • Thought you combined them? I'd like to know too, I have just over a buck credit expiring tomorrow. I'd call friends overseas but I would be bothering them. :)

        • I thought I had combined them all but then found another couple of SIMs that still had credit on them and can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to combine them too :)

  • Why bother ?

    • Just looking for a (Oz)bargain :P

You could talk to a friendly lady for about 2 minutes, or a friendly guy for about 3. To discuss weather or sport or the such.

    • Haha lol :)

I'm a mother and would love my kids to ring me frquently. Why don't you use your numerous small credits to ring mum and dad or family nembers just to keep in touch?

Calls in Australia are probably already unlimited so his relis would have to be overseas. I've already called my O/S friends but at 5 or 10 cents per minute, it's still hard to run down a few dollars.

      • Exactly, my main postpaid plan gives me all the minutes I need. It's not a biggie, just trying to find some use to put the credit to - for example by comparison with Telstra, I believe they let you use credit on Play Store purchases?

You can transfer the credit to any friend with grandfather prepaid plans. https://www.optus.com.au/customercentre/myaccount/billingand…

This is hard to use, unless you have a friend who owns a premium SMS service and is available to help you wash out the funds. I previously inquired about setting up one service but the fees made it in-feasible unless you actually were providing a side service and were reasonably expected to earn some revenue.
