  • I got the previous deal about 3 weeks ago which required a higher spend. Still haven't hit the minimum spend for the bonus points. Do you reckon ANZ would reduce it to $2500 for me since this deal has come out?

    • Im in the same boat and only signed up last week. Anyone had experience changing to newer offers before?

  • Anyone got approved straight away, mine & the gf were referred

    • Nup, also referred

    • Got approved staright away

      • For the Black card?

        • Yep, that's the one.

        • @ozbd: Cool. I still don't get how they approve things without proof of income sometimes, and other times not. Do you bank with ANZ and they already have your details?

        • +1

          @Kothos:

Agreed, I thought it was odd they can approve a cc like that and have no proof of income. Not an ANZ customer.

    • woot..I just got an approval email

      • Have to verify income on mine

  • So I have had my job for 9 months now and I'm 38k so could I go for the 50k point card? And as long as you spend $2500 in the first 3 months on food/bills will be like your getting the points for free?

I have never had a card before so just looking around atm thanks

    • +1

Maybe go to branch, ask them for whatever limit they'll give you, select card accordingly.

      • +2

Got the 50000 point card :) need to fly to perth at the end of the year so if everything go's to plan ill get a return flight for about $60 after points thanks to this post!

        • +2

Happy to have helped! :) Enjoy your trip.

        • +3

Congratulations! If this is your first card, don't go crazy spending money on it and don't treat it as a loan. Pay the balance every month. I learned the hard way as a younger person and ended up spending 3 years paying off $25,000 at 20% interest. Not fun.

  • Has anyone found the offer period? I'm in the process of wrapping up a card before applying :)
    Cheers!

    • I'd like to know as well. I cancelled my last card in February 2015.

      • +1

Unfortunately the T&C's just say they can pull it anytime :)

  • Damn, this deal looks better than the AMEX Qantas deal with $249 fee that I signed up to 2 weeks ago. Too late now.

  • EDIT

  • +1

Cheers, OP. Just applied and got approved as i'm outside my 12 months since the last one. This is quite a good card for travel:

Also reminded me to cancel my CBA 40,000 points card as the points have just come through :)
Now eyeballing the AMEX 80,000 points as well, there is a $249 fee, but those points are worth a lot more than that to me.

edit: tracked down the actual list of ANZ lounges through Veloce https://www.anz.com/resources/f/b/fbaeff05-baa2-49c2-bf6a-9c… i make no guarantees about its accuracy!

  • Have anyone successfully getting the second year fee waived for any of the black card? or do you simply "change" the provider after the first year? Took advantage of the westpac offer last year and due for annual fee on April this year.

    • +1

pro tip is to call and cancel. You want to be speaking to the cancellations team. Don't call and ask for the fee to be waved, as you might just end up talking to a regular customer service person, who can't do as much.

  • Would anyone with experience in earning both Qantas frequent flyer and Velocity points like to explain which one is better and why? I currently have velocity points and not sure whether i should branch off and earn some QFF as well, or just keep to cards earning the velocity points.

  • so is AMEX or Visa the way to go?

    • I didn't get an option to choose? Will this come later?

      • +3

you'll get both cards. and op please change the min. income is 75k pa

        • Ahh thanks! Rookie question on my part.

        • @rgavin:

I got the 50k point card and it was very easy (im on about 38k) going to get the card in 3 days, I also asked the same thing witch card am I getting lol

  • I closed an ANZ QFF credit card about 4-5 months ago. Thinking about trying to put an application through and hoping my old credit card doesn't get picked up in the automated process.

Has anybody tried this and had any success?

  • My only trouble would be the 2.5k spend … nothing to spend this amount on within the next three months.

    • Be troubled no more my hermit / agoraphobic / hikikomori friend!

Time for a 2.5k trip to Vegas!

    • +6

…or just get yourself a missus, and watch $10,000 go in three months ;)

      • +4

Am a missus. Can confirm this to be true.

    • +2

$210 a week on food and bills and you are there ;)

  • Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to link my QFF account to eg my Mum's Credit Card if she were to apply? or it has to be the Credit Card holder's QFF account?

    • Just get her to transfer to you.

      • She does not have a QFF account

        • +1

So get her one. It's free if you Google it.

        • Ok thank you will look into it.

  • Do permanent Australian residents qualify if they have over $50,000 in savings?… seems strange that it only says that for non-permanent residents.

  • It would seem you can be eligible for the black card if you have $50k in your bank account but don't meet the salary requirements.

Edit: oh for non permanent residents.

  • so i got approved, now will they give me a QFF sign up for free with this card or still have to apply for one another way?

Ok I want to give someone a fresh perspective on the points. I redeemed this offer last year for woolworths vouchers and it was awesome. Some people on here post "blah blah it's better to use the points on flights", but i find this to be absolutely not true.

For one, you can only use points on certain flights and then the deals are not too good. And if you like flying cheap, then it is completely pointless the fact that "bang for buck way to use points is on flight upgrades like extra legroom". I don't even want any of these upgrades because most of the time they are crap. I once had premium economy on virgin america and what did i get extra? Same seat at the front of the plane and got "unlimited food and drinks". The flight was so short that no food was served and I was served a single small cup of coke AFTER the entire economy section had been served theirs.

For a cheap traveler, it was much much better for me to book air asia (book any flight i want) and then use the points to redeem groceries.

    Just my 2 cents.

Should be able to get about $300 in gift cards so not bad at all for it being free(more or less)

      • Yup. And considering the sign-up process with ANZ was complete shite (took 1.5 hours during the day in the city.. exceeded my lunch break), I was very happy to mentally thank ANZ for shouting me every time I bought something. I closed the account after the cards came!

        • was all but 20mins for me and that is for someone that has no history at all so i got lucky

    • +2

Fine if you don't value first or business class long haul. Some people would like to experience this luxury in their lifetimes, don't have an employer that will pay for it, and don't have a spare $10/$20k to piss away on it.

      • I might try see if I can upgrade to biz on a trip to Perth as its only 20,000 points by the looks of things. and the flight there is about 40 mins longer than the way back haha (that is if I even get the points)

        • Yeah, going east to west it's worth it for sure, often a 2 hour time difference due to the prevailing headwinds. Though you can't upgrade FF award seats. You'd have to purchase it direct. But I think it's 18k for economy, and 36k for business, so once you've spent $2.5k (ideally all on your Amex), you won't be much shy of the 54k points required.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

It says its 20k points each way on Qantas but you might be right. if I dont have my 2 year old boy with me I would LOVE to fly biz just one time arrr

      • +1

That's fine. I'm sure there are people willing to do that and go do it. My post simply outlines that if you're a cheapskate, there are better ways to spend points.

Hey all, just thought I would let you know I just applied for my card. Got accepted after a few minutes. BUT after some additional research, I realised that if you sign up for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa under the special deal, you only get .75 points per $1 spent. If you sign up without the special deal, you get 2 points per $1. So this may impact on your decision if you decide that you will use this card ongoing and spend a decent amount on it.
Its been confusing to try and figure it out, I kept getting anz pages with different quotes, and it took me a while to figure out. Let me know if I'm wrong!

    • Think you're looking at something entirely different…probably a non-FF point deal (which convert to FF points at 2:1 or worse).

      • Yeah you are right, was trying to edit post. Without understanding the difference between the different credit card options, it was getting quite confusing. Some were with qantas points, some without (although I now know that the one without can be converted to velocity frequent flyer, which is not qantas but virgin). Now I realise their is an anz frequent flyer black card, and an anz rewards black card. I just wasn't quite getting the difference.
Wonder why its all so confusing!

  • Do you get a choice of VISA vs AMEX?

    • +2

      you get both

      • Silly question - Why would you need both?

        • +3

          I have this already.
Use Amex where accepted without surcharge.
A lot of places don't take Amex or have surcharge: use visa.
Amex has higher points 1.5 vs 0.75.
Both appear on same statement as one account

        • Thanks guys

  • What if you are not already a Qantas Frequent Flyer member? Do they give me one for free? My partner is a member, could I put their member number in?

  • Hmm just applied and got my application has been referred. I have an income of $106,000. Have a home loan with my wife but renting the home and it is basically positively geared. Only other debt I have is an interest free amount of $3500 on a GE card. Have another $12k limit between a couple of credit cards with nothing oweing on them. Hope they call me tomorrow and sort it out.

    • I had the same, just be patient, a follow up acceptance email followed in ~30 minutes :)

    • $106,000 well done.

      • I wasn't saying it for any reason other than I was confused why I wouldn't have been accepted and if anyone else had a similar experience.. With minimal debt and a good income I thought I would be a suitable applicant.

    • interesting. I thought people with >$75K income will be instantly approved. Guess the other credit card limits will come into play too. Anyone know if lowering other credit card limits will have more chance of getting the credit card application approved??

      • I would have thought so too. Not sure if it is because of the other credit cards or not. Hoping I get a phone call tomorrow and they just want to verify my income or something.

        • Might be random checks or dependant on wether you have any ANZ products.

      • I have > $75k income, and investment income much more than that, and no other cc debt. Got referred as well. Now they are asking for payslips and rental statements to prove the income is true. So I sent them that and they said they'll have a response within 2 business days.

I don't really understand how any bank could approve cc apps with no proof of anything (though it's happened to me with all the other cards I've applied for). I mean, wouldn't people just lie?

        • +1

I think if you put in a value for "other income" it will trigger a check to verify.

If you put a salary income >$75 and nothing for other income, you will get approved straight away. That's my findings to far.

    • Received an email overnight asking for 2 payslips and copy of my rentals lease agreement. Hopefully be all fine after I provide those.

      • ahhh, was your income $106,000 including rental income??

        • No, that's my wage. Rental income on top.

        • +2

@dwhes: mmm, dunno why you got flagged then lol

maybe your income was too high to be true :p

        • @Padzyk: Haha. Sent the payslips and copy of the lease in today. Fingers crossed it is approved tomorrow.

        • @dwhes: Just an update but my application was approved. Not sure why I got flagged for verification but as soon as I sent them in it went straight through. Word but glad it's sorted. Now to go book some flights and accom and get those points. :)

    • My wage is comparable to yours, I have banked with ANZ for over 15 years with a small personal loan and a mortgage and all everyday accounts through them. No other loans or cc and I was referred also. Accepted email came through about 10 minutes later.

      • similar..
applied, got referred and the 'referred' and 'approved' email both came through a minute later

Was an ANZ card holder a year ago when they had a free platinum card deal, but not currently one.

This is my first 'FF earning' reason to apply for a card :)

        • Congrats! Just got my cards today, pretty impressed with the 2 business day turn around. Happy with my little welcome pack. Looking forward to the free flights too!

        • @kittyzero0:

hopefully mine turn up that quick… car rego due at the end of the month so that will tick a large portion of the minimum spend :)

        • Yeah I got my water rates due! Still haven't worked out if that is eligible/I can pay with amex, or how I use these cards to the best advantage but I will figure it out.

        • @kittyzero0:
can always use the visa half if the amex doesnt work right? you dont have to spend the $2500 via amex only?

        • @SBOB: That is correct, however you get more points for the amex, and even with a surcharge I have heard its still worth paying the surcharge for the extra points in the end. So Im trying to work out what will be best for me in the long term.

But your right, all else fails, use the visa.

        • @kittyzero0: Water-rates is BPAY isn't it? Heard BPAY are not eligible for the minimum spend

        • @kittyzero0: An Amex surcharge is generally not worth paying just for the increased points over using the Visa.

          E.g. 2% Amex surcharge = 2c / $
1.5 QFF points is typically considered worth less than 1.5c
Plus you're not really gaining 1.5 QFF for those 2c; the marginal increase in points over just using the Visa was only 0.75 - 1 QFF (depending on your card).

        • @HarveySpecter: correct, BPAY not eligble but I can pay my bill direct on website via VISA and I am still eligble for the spend (I believe) and still get the points by paying on my card :) Even if im not eligible on the spend I will still reach the 2500, and if I pay online via visa I still get the points for paying on my visa.

        • @coxymla: Not necessarily. Maybe you are looking at point conversion if I use my points to buy gift cards, but I am not, I am looking at claiming my points for flights and other benefits. I have been researching many articles on if it is worth the surcharge, and many say that it is. So yeah…still weighing up the options.

  • If my wife is a secondary cardholder of my current anz card, can she apply under this offer and get the 75000 points?

    • should be ok

  • Guys what is better to get the BLACK AMEX or BLACK VISA?
