      That's racist.

    • You will get both, so dont need to bother :p

  • Can someone please tell me what are eligible purchases
As an example what would come under the $2500 spend in three months

    • +4

a piece of gum from the petrol station

      • what i mean is, does it include online purchases, so i bought coles gift card online would that be eligible under the $2500 spend

        • should be ok

    • +2

A copy of Jugs from your local news vendor

  • +1

    You get both

  • Hey all

Regarding eligible spend. I unfortunately got approved a few weeks ago for the 7.5k spend, and I'm going to struggle.

So, are there any types of prepaid debit cards that I can purchase that qualify? Maybe the Coles one? If so, I'll just purchase maybe $5k worth of those and use that up over a longer timeframe.

    • Why don't you call them up and ask if they can change it to $2.5k minimum spend instead??

    • +7

      prepay utility bills
      prepay rent
coles/ww gift cards @ 5% off (ww takes amex no surcharge, double dip on points)
insurance renewals (you can usually buy a month or two in advance)
      car rego if due soon
if you are travelling - qantas gift cards
      be creative.

      • Does car rego count as an eligible purchase? i.e. Do I get FF points + count towards $2500 spend?

I read somewhere payments for "government charges" are not eligible for points.

    • Or just buy Wish Gift Cards and use them to pay for fuel at Caltex Woolworths, groceries and booze at Woolies, BigW or use them to purchase other gift cards (i.e. JB Hifi, Hoyt and heaps more) from Woolies later to take advantage of offers in those stores.

Groupon is selling these with 5% discount. http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/dealbank_en_au/gg-woolworths…. They're valid for 1 full year.

      • Not bad, the $500 looks tempting.

        • mooturner can buy 9 (Maximum allowed) of them and that might take him over the 7.5 K limit with other usual spendings…

    • ..

    • whatever you do, Youd want to make sure you can pay off the balance of the credit card when it comes in, the interest will kill you if you cant!

  • +1

This may sound like a silly question but is there anyway to become a qantas ff member without coughing up the rude $89 join fee?

Also another question, if u apply for this anz credit card without giving a ff number can u at a later date give it to them and stil get the 75k points?

Has anyone paid fortnightly mortgage payments to ING (or any other bank i suppose) using this card to get points? Ill easily get to 2.5k on mortgage payments leaving me free to apply for the Qantas AmEx Premium Card :D

    • As far as rent go's I was told by ANZ there is no way I can use the card to pay my rent :/

      • It will come out as a cash advance off the credit card. Bad idea, and wont count towards the spend.

  • Long time Lurker first time poster. Just enquiring if it is Ok to get the Amex offer (Qantas 80,000FF points) then apply for this offer separately and get the 75,000. I know there is a 12 month restriction with same bank offers.

Has anyone successfully applied for both to get the 150,000 points. Apologies if this has already been responded to. Leon at work couldn't said he couldn't help me. I think he just didn't want to help me.

    • +1

The cards are offered by two different issuers (one by ANZ and one by Amex) so you can definitely do that.

After you do that you will have an ANZ Visa, an ANZ Amex and and Amex Amex. Of course, you can just cancel the ones you don't want after you get the points. In fact ANZ told me you could technically cancel the Amex and keep just the ANZ Visa, but you get nothing out of doing that.

  • +1

If it's free for 12 months, can I sign up, get the points, then cancel the card after the 12 months?

    • yep, can cancel as soon as you get the points, ANZ told me I would get the points in my account in about 5 months.

  • +1

Brisbane City council doesnt have american express as a payment option paying online. Has anyone else managed to pay a bcc notice with amex or just give up?

    • +2

If they take Paypal (some do now) you can connect your Amex to Paypal and pay with it that way.

    • Have you done the maths as to whether the credit card surcharge is worth it (whether Amex or visa)?

  • +1

As several others have mentioned, OP should mention the headline Black card has a $75k income requirement.

    • -2

It's now down to $2,500 if you check the ANZ website.

      • +3

        Income requirement, not minimum spend.

        • +1

Oops, sorry, I read that wrong.

  • applied and got approved, thanks.

  • If your borrowing capacity allows you, you can open both Frequent Flyer Black and Rewards Black at the same time. So can earn both 75k Rewards and Qantas points (after spending $2.5k on each pair of cards within 3 months).

    Thanks OP.

    • ….you sure? Surely ANZ or any other banks will only allow you to choose 1 of their credit cards.

      • Yes I am sure, just tried that 2 hours ago at the branch. it depends on how much your total borrowings capacity including the new credit card $15k limit on each card. I was told that if I wanted to open the platinum as well as the Black cards it is possible. I didn't want to push my luck so I gave the Platinum a miss.

Can anyone confirm that gift cards like the Wish card count towards the 2.5k spend?

    • +1

How would they know that's what you're buying?

      • good point, did not think about this from that perspective haha thanks!

  • Got my cards today but have to wait till I get the 'welcome pack' to start using them D:

    • +1

      Why? I didn't

  • thanks OP

  • I've never had a credit card before and while the deal seems great to me, I was skeptical about the whole approval process. Applied thinking 'why not', approved in 60 seconds. Impressed. Thanks OP!

  • just got off the phone with anz ref Eligibility "Be a non-Australian permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa, earning a minimum annual income of $75,000 or have $50,000 in Australian Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) accounts " the call centre staff said that if you have $50k deposited with anz and earn over 15k you qualify to apply. i wonder if this is true? im thinking of applying for wife but shes now a Australian permanent resident so not sure if its worth trying? anyone with 50k deposited in a ADI and earn less then 75k get approved for the card? what if you dont meet the minimum income requirements for 75k do they just sent out the downgraded version the platinum card or classic or simply not approve the application?

  • Does BPAY count towards the 2.5k spend? I just looked up my property manager on BPAY and they list credit card as an accepted payment method. I could just pay 2 months of rent and be done with it.

  • I assume eligible purchases don't include bpay payments?

  • +2

Got rejected online. I made a mistake of selecting "Maximum allowed credit limit for my income range" and apparently the system chose it as "AUD50000".

Better chose a lower credit limit if you are applying online.

  • +1

Just booked two one way domestic business class seats (worth ~ $2500) with my 75,000 points…happy days :)

Also, for those cancelling from the last offer, don't forget to grab your Qantas Club Invitations first…if you don't use them yourself or give them away to friends or family, they go for around $50 - $70 each on gumtree ;)

  • Still waiting for approval. Applied on 13th and supplied payslips as requested but still no response.

    • Some people get instant decisioning, for me it says it will be manual approval, so might take few days

      • Cards turned up today. Popped into local branch to activate as I haven't bank with ANZ before so provided id verification.

        • Thanks. I got an SMS 2 hours ago
Congratulations, your ANZ credit card application has been approved! You will receive the Card, Welcome Kit, and PIN within 3-5 business days. Thank you for banking with ANZ.

  • Manage to get the card today under my wife's name. I already have an existing FF ANZ Plat and looking to close it soon.
Does anyone know if I can use my wife's new card to bpay off the balance on my existing card prior to closing it?

    • Never had a credit card that accepted BPAY from another credit card.
You could transfer it using a direct deposit but that would count as a cash advance so typically would not earn you any points.

      • ta, thanks for the prompt. Likewise i havent heard about this option before. I probably shoot this question to ANZ to clarify

  • -1

Showing 2 cards, Visa and Amex. Which one is it? Which one's better?

    • You get both, had mine delivered already

  • Got my cards and dropped into the branch to complete ID verification and the lady said that I should contact them in 11 months and they would find a way to waive the annual fee.

Now, I was planning on cancelling the card after getting the points. Anyone have opinions on the likelihood of them letting me keep the card annual fee free? Anyone done it?

    • -1

Which card they gave you, Visa or Amex?

      • You get both as part of the application.. At least that's my understanding

      • Yeah both cards.

    • Do you need to go to the branch to activate the card? Did they ask for payslips while they're at it?

      • +2

I needed to because I've never banked with ANZ before. Well TBH I probably didn't need to; but I live about 150m from a branch, so it's less effort than any other form of authentication (e.g post office, sending forms / copies, etc).

Nah never asked for anything. It was hilarious. And I'm self employed to boot.

    • Usually they don't waive next year annual fee. I have opened the ANZ card multiple time and close it after one year

  • Activated my card yesterday, must say they are quite good cards & would be worth trying to get the fee wavied to hang onto them. For Amex purchases you get 1.5 points per dollar (visa only 0.75/1) & there is no maximum spend to earn points which I think all my other FF cards do have.

  • Thanks for posting, great deal. Received my cards yesterday and activated and off I go. Just a quick question…do direct debits like health insurance, internet etc count towards the $2500 spend? If so I will probably rack that spend amount up on childcare alone!

    • +1

So long as they're processed as charges on your credit card, yes they do.

  • Got my cards today and activated it. Ez points, Ez life

  • Could I just prepay my council rates by BPAY to count as eligible spend. Or utility bills (water, elec, gas)??

I assume ANZ don't actually know how much was due per bill, and that my rates or utility account will just go into credit??

  • I had an ANZ platinum card before, and I closed it 4 months ago. Will I eligible for this offer? Because I never had FF Black card before?

    Any advise?

    • +1

No, your card needs to be closed for 12months or longer.

      • Are you sure about it? I spoke to a person in the branch, she said I would be eligible and she took my application and processed it at the branch.

      • Wrong.. the T's and C's explicity state the previous card holders which are excluded

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

        • +1

If he held an ANZ Platinum (non-FF), then he's indeed eligible for the FF promotion.

          If not, he isn't.

        • +1

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:
I can confirm. My Mum was advised she is eligible as her previous card was a non FF card.

        • @uder: Thank you mate

        • I have ANZ platinum FF card and ANZ confirmed that I am not eligible. I have advised them that I am going to close my account and all CC with them if they do not match that offer for me. They didn't budge.
Considering to close account and CC to move to another bank. Any other good offers there?

  • Just reading through Welcome Pack for Black cards and there is no mention of the Bonus Points. I applied for cards through the link provided. Is it a given that points are awarded after spending criteria is met?

  • I applied yesterday and it said my application was being referred. I was expecting them to ask for some pay slips or something but then got an email in the morning saying "approved", so not sure why it said referred to begin with.

    • Means their computers didn't have all the info required, so a manual intervention was needed.

  • Oh great so they send me a letter with documents then the next day they send me 2 letters with PIN and still no card……..

    • I think you have to collect the card from the branch. Found it on page 3 of this link: https://www.anz.com/resources/5/9/59034a4b-4c43-4832-95bf-bd…

However don't count my words because I'm still waiting on mine and only just saw it this morning. Gonna head down to branch when it opens.

I'll let you know if this is the case.

      • +1

Update: Just been down to the branch. They mail the cards to your address.
Sorry for the confusion. Funny thing is I got the PINs and welcome pack before the card.

        • +1

I work in banking here. Financial institutions send PINs/Welcome packs separately to Cards as a security measure. This is to prevent theft and fraud if mail is stolen/tampered with. If a fraudster has both Card and PIN at same time, the Banks are just giving them the green light!

        • @Wazzi80:

Funny you say that. The card itself had enough information for me to activate it and start spending on it via paypass without knowing the pin.

    • ummm, the letter with documents should contain the card.

      • Nope it didn't. I just got a 4th letter containing the card.

        • lol 4th? Now that's an abnormally

I got my card in the first mail, activated at the branch and also changed my pin in the branch aswell. I didn't even wait for the welcome pack, ain't nobody got time for that!

  • Oh I just realised that somehow I applied for the ANZ Rewards Black instead of FF Black. Still get the bonus offer but it's 75000 points instead of Qantas points which are worth slightly less. Odd because I thought I followed that link. Oh well. Still good.

  • I'm normally fly virgin and collect velocity points. Would it be better for me to get the card with 75000 reward points and transfer it to velocity? Or get the card with 75000 QFF points? I know QFF points are worth more, and would use the 75000 points with Qantas if I were to go with this option

    • While Velocity points would be more valuable to you, the sheer difference (37750 vs 75000) in points on offer makes it hard not to go for Qantas. Whatever the points will get you with Virgin, they'll get you two times as much (or business class) with Qantas.

      • You're right. Thank you

  • +1

an interesting addition to this - I foolishly paid my Telstra mobile bill with personal card the other day, but then realised i could have paid it with the ANZ card when it arrives and earnt toward the $2500. Today, contacted telstra and asked if i could refund the payment to my personal card ($190.. for a month!! haha thank goodness work pays) so i could then pay with the ANZ CC when it arrives (should be any day now). Telstra rep said "sure, your account balance is $0, but you can choose to manually pay any amount any time - so with your new CC elect to pay the same amount, and when we confirm we've received it we'll refund back to your personal card"

Sounded good - so I further clarified : "if i can manually choose an mount to pay, could i pay example $2000 and be in credit for couple of months?"

Answer was YES - so this could surely mean I could pay Telstra $2500 (or some amount there of), it would be charged against ANZ CC and so qualify for the spend amount, and I'd hit the target straight away?

    Thoughts?

    • Just check with ANZ if it's a qualified purchase, but should be okay according to their wording for eligible purchases,

"excluding fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, cash advances as defined in the ANZ Credit Cards CONDITIONS OF USE"

      https://www.anz.com.au/content/dam/anzcomau/documents/pdf/an…

    • When I went to BPay my Telstra bill it said it would be treated like a cash advance, so immediate interest (maybe fees? Can't recall). Unsure if you still get points

      • +1

That's a fair point, but I think BPaying vs proper credit card payment are much different transaction types?
