Yeah, I'm pretty sure that would be a cash advance.
Otherwise that would be a perfect loophole:
          * Load as much as you can with Amex (up to credit limit)
          * Take out cash from ATM
          * Put cash on your account
          * Pay back Amex
          * Repeat

You could do that multiple times a day and get as many points as you want :)
Very unlikely they didn't think of that.

        • @MrTweek: but my plan doesn't include taking cash out from ATM. The bonus is just marginally the bonus flybuys points in addition to your other credit card reward program.

        • @lawyerz: How does that make a difference? At the time you load money onto that card, your bank won't know whether you are going to spend it or take the cash out. They won't even be able to find out afterwards. Any transaction that can somehow be converted to hard cash will be counted as cash advance and won't incur reward points.

Let me know if it works though, I know what I'll be doing over the long weekend if it does :)

        • @MrTweek:
          "Online load methods
You may also be able to load value onto your Card
          using the following methods.
          - Follow the prompts in the Prepaid Service Centre
to use you own MasterCard or Visa Debit card (not
          another Coles Reloadable MasterCard®). After
you successfully make a load request this way,
we’ll immediately add the funds to your Available
          Balance.

You can transfer funds from your existing Australian
bank account to your Card. You can login to your
          own Australian financial institution’s internet
banking and follow the prompts to make a direct
credit transaction. For the payee details, use the
account number and BSB on the back of your Card.
Please allow 3 business days for the funds to be
added to your Card’s Available Balance. "

        • @starionx: Yeah, I didn't say you can't do it. I just said they will most likely treat this as a cash advance, which makes it no better than regular bank transfer.

        • @MrTweek: There's a good chance you may be right.. but if not, still free flybuy points worth $15 for me (apparently $20 for other people pfft), I'll just use up the existing value $10 and just keep it for buying things off dodgy websites or to avoid airlines charge then.

        • +2

I just read this while I was about to pay with my coles mastercard. i thought you'd be able to double dip on points.

I think it'd likely be treated as a cash advance payment…

edit: can you load money into the QF prepaid card and use that to pay for this, so you earn both QFF and flybuys?

        • @MrTweek: reload will probably be treated as cash advance, but initial purchase is not so technically you can buy multiple at one to max out, but these cards only have small limit (1k or 2k) unless you do some sort of registration to raise the limit, up to 10k I think.

        • Let us know if you can accumulate rewards points when topping it up.

Will the transfer being treated as a cash advance, be dependent on the bank one is with?

        • You'd in effect be doing a balance transfer.

      • You cannot reload this card using Credit Card. The initial purchase, yes you can but not subsequent reloading.

How do I Top-Up my Coles Reloadable MasterCard?

To view your options and instructions to Top-Up your card, log in to the Prepaid Service Centre, select the card you’d like to Top-Up and click on the ‘Top-Up’ button. You can choose to Top-Up via direct deposit from your bank account or another MasterCard or Visa debit card.

If you haven’t increased your limit, you can store a maximum of $1,000 on your Card at any one time. Over a 365 day period you can reload up to a total of $6,000. If you have increased your limit, you can store a maximum of $10,000 and reload unlimited times, as well as set up auto Top-Ups.

        • +1

damn! i thought there was a loophole around this card..! if only we can use credit card to top up (with no transaction fees) then we can pretty much cash out cash with credit card 0%

        • @gorzilla: Could just buy a lot of them I guess

        • @gorzilla: and get a cash advance fee/interest on your credit card.

  • +1

Excellent timing. Coles just offered me 2000 flybuy points to buy one. So I think I just got a $10 worth of points + $10 prepaid value for $10. winning :) .. I hope…

    • How did coles offer you the 2000 bonus points?

Was it in an email or part of the sign up process? Thanks.

      • email - targeted offer

    • I got the 2000 flybuy points email offer but it said it expired on 31 Dec15.
Does anyone still have a current points offer ?

      • Mine came today… like 30 minutes before this hit front page

  • +1

Just a thought. Is it possible to:

    My parents are living overseas.
    1. Open a flybuys account under their name. Use my current address.
    2. Open an email id.
    3. Get this card under their name and hand to them.
    4. I reload here and they use overseas.
    5. Save on overseas transfer fees by banks or western union.

    Any advice please!!!

    • +2

Currency Conversion Fee: 3% of the total amount.

      • +1

Western Union charged me 15AUD for 435 last time. That's 3.3% and it goes up after 500 or something. Not sure. And don't get me started on bank fees as they are ridiculous .

        • Then it sounds like a good idea. Worst case is you get them to mail the card back (or $5 for replacement card) and you use the remaining balance here.

      • plus ATM fees (whatever they are)

    • +1

Use 28 degrees Mastercard for overseas transactions. You can always pay their bill via bpay

      • Can you get 28 degrees under their name, as they are not citizens here?

        • Probably not. Assuming you are the one funding it, so presumably they are getting supplementary cards of YOUR account. They spend, you pay? :)

        • @Mcz: yes

    • +1

Yeah, possible, but they still charge you 3%, which is not cheaper than most banks. Cheaper than Western Union though.

Check transferwise.com, they charge around 1-1.5% for international transfers.

    • They offer you more flybuy points for overseas transactions (1 point for each $1) because they can earn more fees and exchange conversion rates from you. A few things you might want to check before deciding if this might or might not work for you:
      - their exchange rates - are they competitive?
      - your parents' spending pattern. Will they be just making purchases on the card or will they also need cash in their local currency? If so, there will be fees involved too?
      - why need a separate flybuy account? People in same household can share the same flybuys account - thus making it faster for you to earn extra flybuy points if you have a card being used in Australia (particularly at Flybuy partners which presumably most of them are based in Australia)

    • +3

just get their passport and apply a joint Citibank account and they keep one card, you keep one. Citibank has no fees at all.

Or just use your Citibank account to send the money to their bank account overseas.

      • This I will try

      • I thought one needs to be at least a permanent resident to be eligible to open an Australian bank account? Part of the 100 point ID check will include proof of residency like bank statements, utility bills etc.

        • Don't think so. Non-residents can open an account with Passport and Drivers License (or similar). It's flagged as non-resident account so that any interest is taxed appropriately.

        • @Tiger: I think they still need to prove they live here though. I recall in my recent application with them, the form asked for nationality, tax residency and place of residence. You can nominate that you don't pay tax here but still need to prove your current residential address? Although can use the son's address but might be difficult to gather supporting documents if the parents have only been visiting Australia for a short period of time?

  • I just tried to buy this twice with my Bankwest debit card. The payment got declined twice.

5 mins later Bankwest called me and said they had put a block on this particular merchant because they've had a heap of fraud coming through.

She lifted the ban for 2 hours for me and it went through fine.

  • +1

When I bought this, after I entered C/Card details it took forever for the sale confirmation page to appear
    OMG so tense

  • +2

This is targeted. I assure that. We receive one as well. You can get $10 off as that is for the fees apply for the card. Flybuys 2000pts will based on whether you receive this promotion.

Any how you will get this for FREE by use CRM10 for a free card but 2000pts depend if you received a targeted promo

    • OP should remove all reference to the 2000 bonus points. No where in the offer is that mentioned unless you received an email advising otherwise.

      • +1

It is listed on the buy now page
Im at work, ill grab a screenshot once i get home

        • Do you have a screen shot of that page you were talking about?

  • Connection is timing out, anyone else?

  • +3

Hmmm I think I'll stick with the Aus Post prepaid VISA, having to put in your personal details kinda defeats the purpose of a disposable card. Otherwise a VISA debit from one of the banks does the same thing as this.

    • Do you have to provide your details for Aus Post prepaid VISA?

      • Yep and you've got to activate the card with a password and username.

      • +2

You provide details but it doesn't have to be 'your' details.

        • Correct but to get the card they have your address.

It wont be delivered without that

        • @RockyRaccoon:

No that's not right, you walk in to the Post shop to buy a card off the rack and they will ask you for a name and phone number. None of the information you give them at that stage needs to be real.

You then register online with some extra info, but again none of that has to be 'your' details.

        • @plmko: Yes you are correct, guess this part of the thread was talking about the disposable card, vs the original Reloadable card post. Agreed if you want personal details kept secret, then this isnt the card, whereas the Aust post card is an option, but it does come at a price, (9c a transaction capped at 99c pm)

        • @RockyRaccoon: I was asked for a mobile # for an activation code… which (pretty much) ties to your real name and address. Has this changed?

    • +1

+1 for the Auspost Load&Go card. Totally anonymous and they don't even check age. Great if you wanna stay private or give your kids a Visa card to use with a limited spend.

      • You can do the same with Coles, but not with the reloadable card. The Aust post card charges you a monthly use fee of 9c a transaction capped at 99c so you have privacy at a price. Also both cards have limit as its what you prepay. No automatic top up.

      • Don't you have to give your mobile #?

        • +1

You do but you can give them a fake one as long as you keep track of how much you have on it yourself.

        • As Useful said, you don't need to give a real mobile number as it's only used for SMS notifications. That will cost you money so you don't want to use that anyway. You can logon to the card website to check your balance and see your recent transactions for free.

        • @useful: Oh… the lady at the Post Office said it's used to send an activation code which is needed to use the card…? Is this not the case?

  • So many restrictions, cannot even use at an unattended terminal (eg self service kiosk/parking meter).

Also, if not registered, cannot reload more than $6000 per 365 days.

    • +1

You must not attempt to use your Card at a device where that device is as an unattended payment terminal. An unattended payment terminal is an unsupervised terminal. These terminals can include car parking machines, vending machines, transport ticketing devices and self-serve kiosks. If you attempt to use your Card or Card

Information in any way described above, your attempted transaction may be declined and we may suspend or cancel your Card.

WHY do they not allow you to use it at a parking terminal etc?!?! how ridiculous???? Would they even know/realise??

      • This would also exclude OPAL card (NSW) topup from machines.

That seals it…no parking stations, no parking meters, no public transport payments, no self-serve petrol stations Pay At Pump….

  • Anyone knows if this one can be used to pull out Coles Express ATM voucher offer with no fee?

  • +1

When did you guys receive the bonus flybuys email, I just checked and mine says expired 31st Dec?

    • Yeah same with me man, what's the go with that??

  • Are the extra 2000 flybuys points targeted
Ive already got a card, no point of ordering another unless I get the 2000 points

  • Top method is only through direct deposit or debit card (MasterCard or visa debit card)

    Amex excluded.

  • +1

Is your name attached to this card or is it anonymous? I'd like to make some "questionable" purchases online with anonymity.

    • +1

      Haha I like your honesty..

    • +1

You get the option to out name on the card
      Or a message

It also has your fly uys barcode at the back so you dont have to carry both

    • +1

I'd like to make some "questionable" purchases online with anonymity

Yep, I'd like it under "McLovin" on the address label. And in a white envelope. Oh, and I don't need a paper invoice. The thing I'm buying you say? It's…it's "500 Days of Summer".

      proceeds to profusely shed tears

  • Guys, this would be good to use if you ever buy jetstar tickets and don't already have a mastercard. You can pay Jetstar with mastercard on MOBILE devices, with no transaction fee per ticket. If you see a sale with jetstar, go to coles and load up the card then pay for tickets with that. I used to do a similar thing with the Woolies reloadable mastercard.

  • +1

Could one of these be used to sign up for free trials to ensure they don't keep charging you…. Is there any way they can get more money off you?

    • Yes, for this price its a gift that keeps giving

  • Not bad! .. the code works for multiple card.. bought 2, so saved $20!

I got the 2000 bonus point email but not sure if it's 2000 points per card purchased or per transaction? anyone knows?

    • Should be per card

      • confirmed

      • +2

Only one 2,000 BONUS POINTS offer applies per flybuys member number.

  • Wow nice deal
    Ordered 2

  • +2

Which newsletter are people subscribed to in order to receive the targeted offer? I might subscribe to it and hope for the best.

  • +2

I do not receive any confirmation email after purchased? What to do now?

    • Me niether.

    • Just applied for one, no email yet. On the purchase page said sending straight away. Will see in the morning.

      • Same here. I asked last night. Didn't get any confirmation email till now

  • +3

its not really 0 dollars like the title says, you need a minimum of 10 dollars in it to check out.

  • Can I simply sign up for the card for free, receive the 2000 points, cut up the card and forget about it and not risk any account charges if it sits unused with a $0 balance?

    • +1

Spend the initial $10 you load it with first before cutting it up!

      • +2

shame, didn't realize I had to put money on it. feels like a detail that should be in the main post

  • Grabbed one cheers

Just head up for anyone wish to use this card for earning Flybuys.

I have got this card as targeted offer in xmas and sign up the card. The first time allow you to deposit up to $100 with credit card then any further deposit requires either Bank Transfer or Debit card deposit. Have used this card for over 1 month now experience is not that +ve.

Tried bank transfer method is not as convenient as you would hope for as it depend on them time to funds the card. More concern issue is Debit card top-up, tried using Bankwest / CBA debit card to deposit first time it go through successfully. however, tried the second time the payment failed. Have to call up both Coles Prepaid card and Bankwest whats going on and why.

The financial service company name Indue.com.au is operate on this Coles Prepaid card. They mention there is nothing wrong with their side as it should take any debit card loading as long as it is not credit card so it is nothing wrong on their end. However, further inquiry with Bankwest the reason the payment is fail because they classified the merchant as a serious risk to their security measures and class as fraudulent activity. They mention it is duty to protect customer to prevent online or automated transaction..yada yada yada. They only allow you to make deposit by calling them every time to do so.

Second is tried some online retail and other company and find out that the card is not accepted everywhere. When I tried to purchase a few company refuse this card payment method - i don't want to list the specific company. Yet i believe most do but you will find out eventually some do not take this card.

Can confirm tried to pay on SRDO and Water bills is working

So pro and cons. but general the flybuys points reward it working out about 0.25% as cash if you do the maths right. work out priority which reward is better as this payment is pretty much cash at hand funds than a credit card.

    • I worked out my average reward if I were to use this card to be less than 0.5% as most of my spending is at non flybuys partners. Paying bills etc. It is 0.25% for normal spending at non flybuys partners, based on earn rate of 1 point for every $2 spent. And it is 0.75% earn rate if you use purely at flybuys partners that give 1 point extra for $1 spent. For someone putting everything on card to earn flybuys, their Coles credit card might get them there quicker with earn rate of 1% for everywhere + 0.5% at partners.

    • Indue is surely a frauduler. I topped up this card using my Qantas card and now they held my money and don't allow me to withdraw the money at ATM. They asked me to contact Qantas to do the chargeback and there is nothing they can do, they will hold the money forever.

I did contacted Qantas and they told me that I authorized the transaction, so what is the reason for the chargeback?

Do you have any suggestion about this? Do they have right to hold my money? I would submit a complaint to Financial Ombudsman Service but they are not a member.

      • Did they say why you can't withdraw your own money? Others can withdraw their funds at ATMs

        • no explanations, and very rude! They may think I used a stolen card to top up my account.

      • I had my coles prepaid card deactivated also! I loaded my card with funds and I tried to take the money out of an ATM and it didn't work. I had to call them and explain how I loaded the funds on and why I was taking the money out of an ATM. As grateful as I am for the deal and the $10 saving on the card, I've had difficulty using it.

        • The on/off button in my account is disappeared. Do you still have some funds on the card?

        • @tlam: that's what happened when I checked, but I called them and had a chat with them and they turned the card back on. They explained that they can deactivate cards at anytime if they feel there is anything suspicious, they don't tell you they deactivate it either. Personally, as soon as I finish using the funds on my card, I am not going to use this card ever again. Not worth risking the card getting deactivated with funds on it.

        • @imissbeans:

as soon as I get all the funds out, I'll chop the card up, so many hassles

  • I didn't receive the targeted email. So Basically if I sign up and put $50 initial load on the card, all I get is a Debit Mastercard with $50 on it. If I then shop at Coles with this card will I get $10 off the shop? That is what the OP stated in the description. But I don't think this is correct is it? You are only getting the $10 card fee waived.

    • The $10 off your shop is only available to you once you hv accumulated 2000 flybuy points. You may refer to above posts for earning rates. This card is useful (for accumulating flybuy points wise) if you do not already have their credit card or if you find that the use of a debit card suits you better.

  • +2

Have anybody received any confirmation email after buying the card?

    • +1

I still haven't received my confirmation after joining last night. They took the $10 out of my Visa though.
