Bonus Google Play $20 credit: Between 2 Nov 2015 and 12 Feb 2016, customers who purchase any prepaid 4G Android phone and activate the included SIM by 12 Feb 2016 will receive a $20 Google Play credit. A link to access the credit will be sent via SMS within 7 days of SIM activation, but this is likely to happen much sooner. Credit must be activated with Google Play by 29 Feb 2016 and must be used by 1 Nov 2016.

I activated the included SIM card last night, picked a new number, no need to recharge, got the Google Play $20 credit code this morning! I will cancel the service right now. I suggests you activate the sim card in the weekdays, then you will get the $20 Google Play credit code immediately or in the following day. If you are unlucky, do not receive the code within 2 days, you may need to recharge at least $10 in order to keep the service. The service will stop if you do not recharge within 3 days.

One more tip: You could price match it in Big-w and Kmart.

  • Bugger me….activated 0700hrs MON and spoke to online chat yesterday and still no freakin' code. Very unimpressed :-(

    • Hey at least you got the phone :( it's $70 now

      • Well call me old fashioned but I kinda expect to get what I paid for and was promised…anyway we'll give it another 24hrs and then thats the end of the 48-72hrs more the chat guy stated. :-/

    • Its been 6 days since i activated and do you know what the moron on the optus chat told me today "according to my calculations you should receive it tomorrow." Because the web page says you will receive it within 7 days of activating. Optus made me run around like crazy during the netflix promo as well.

      • I tell you what that reminds me of my call - at the end of the 'official' Optus talk the guy kinda adlibed and said,""You will get it, you will!"

        And I remember thinking,"Oh yeah, like with the Netflix code promo that I'm STILL waiting on the code for one device one?!?"

        So yes, like yourself I got dicked around left and right - calling them multiple times and still didn't get all the codes sent.

  • Spoke to online chat today and was told it would be 2 weeks before the account details are reflected in their database, and I would get the credit then.

    • Everyday they have a new story which they will feed to you to get you off their back.The truth is that they have no idea when and if you will ever get the code.

      • That sounds about right.

        The 72hrs since I spoke to 'Chat' and was 'promised' that I'll have the code within 48-72hrs came and went this morning. Now it's really not a BIG DEAL as I wasn't buying the phone for the credit but IMHO this is yet another example of Opts showing how to make a PROMOTION into a DEMOTION (ok apologies to the English language but you get my gist).

        The ironic thing is in the ~6 days since I activated I've been bombarded by every other frigging Optus SMS imaginable - including a 8+ SMS survey on how I found their service etc etc.

        Really crap service delivery & I certainly won't be using them for ANYTHING other then grab & dash buys like this because of it.

  • Hahahahahahaha…..suffice to say the 7 day & 48-72hr Optus 'promised' windows for the code to arrive within have come and gone - literally online with them as I write this. What a freaking joke of an organisation - I'm only following up out of principle but seriously WTF! :-/

    • Apparently there was a 'glitch' - another 72hrs and apparently it's a certainty this time. :-/

  • Gah the sale only finished by Wednesday and have only gotten recently to activate. .. Hoping they may push through bonus regardless as this would save sourcing telstra starter pack. oh & dang- 2ND deadline at 29 FEB again ..always with the expiry ;|.
    One keeper of a phone though, built for b28 4G.

  • Applied Play to 111 suggestion earlier. Nothing else received.
    Bunch of marketing messages. No surprises
    Will get it unlocked now.

  • Well my credit arrived yesterday at around 2pm, so 10.5 days after having activated & after having to contact Optus chat about the matter twice.

    The credit comes from number '111' but with all due respect to the previous sender I don't think sending 'Play' to 111 achieves anything - it certainly didn't for me and no advise was given on this by Optus on either time I called.

    Suffice to say it's the last time that phone will sniff an Optus network as it's onto another SIM ASAP - especially in light of such shoddy service.

    • I still havent received the google play credit.
      Contacted the optus chat for the second time.Apparently she has created a ticket for me and i will receive it within 7 days. Yeah right!

      • FWIW you've just got to stay on them - ask for a reference number and push them as to WHY it's not been done as promised etc. Really unfortunate you have to do this but I think they're deliberately not paying out a small % of them as it's an instant saving and many folks will figure no big deal.

        The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so don't be afraid to hassle them.

  • I purchased this phone when this deal was on and it ended up being faulty. I returned it for a refund but had already purchased a case (blue) and tempered screen protector. Anyone need these? They took roughly 3 weeks from china so hopefully this might help someone out?

  • My code still hasn't come in! Just texted Play to 111 and now it says it has expired. Pretty annoyed. Has anyone had any luck trying to get the code through support?

  • Also, has anyone managed to root this phone properly? I have SuperSU installed OK (through a custom recovery) which was easy but every time I try to modify the system (eg. delete some bloatware) some black magic occurs after a reboot and whatever changes I made are undone. Never seen this on an Android phone before and it's pretty frustrating. Any ideas?

  • I know this sale is over, but OP mentioned "antutu" - does anyone know what score it got - esp for Antutu 3DBench?

    Also, what is the battery life like - esp battery life for videos and web?
