What is the best streaming device for Asian TV currently on the market?

I'm looking at a few devices at the moment to stream Asian TV shows. Mainly HK and Chinese channels.
Had a TVPad 2 that's become a paperweight. Looking into alternatives. I've heard of a uBox, moonbox, himedia, etc.

What are people currently using?
How reliable would you say it is?
Ease of use?
Cost?

  • I know TVBA has their own TVB anywhere now… not too sure what that is though as i personally don't use it.

    • TVB anywhere is a paid monthly subscription that costly around AUD $60/month.

it streams exactly like TVPad except that it has a set timetable and schedule of drama/movies

      • HOLY CRAP… $60/mth and set timetables… Yeah no… not happening.

        • Oh I forgot to mention there are like 30 channels on the tvb anywhere.. Kinda like foxtel.

Hey OP, why don't you upgrade to the TV pad 4??

        • @lippy: Yeah, the TVB anywhere is a pretty expensive option and not that many channels. The TV Pad 2 has left a poor taste in my mouth after months of frustrations, constant no connections. I'm assuming it will happen with the TV Pad 4 as well, also the other boxes. Some of the other boxes are android, so at least if servers go down, can still use as a decent media player and side load other apps.

        • @Penro: Honestly, I didn't know TVB anywhere cost so much… are there apps on android for streaming (that aren't exclusive to the TV Pads etc)? If so, you could always try a chromecast and have your phone cast it to your chosen TV.

        • @ProjectZero: I tried using vChannel streaming from a old android phone to a chromecast. The problem is it kept crashing on certain channels and the whole app crashed. Also trying to explain it to the elderly non tech savvy is very difficult.

  • Moon Box !

  • Mum upgraded from a TV pad3 to HTV3. Loves it, and it's much more like an android 'device' in terms of accessibility/tweaking. Got me thinking couldn't someone make their own with a raspberry pi?

  • Streaming sites does the trick if you just want shows

    • I was after live news as well.

  • This is the site to the TVB livestream and shows
And to use it just get ZenMate VPN on Google Chrome

  • Ask directly to Chinese people, I've had many times chances to see them watching full movies streaming from Chinese web sites, sorry I don't remember the name of the sites.

  • Most of those boxes other then tvb's are claimed to be illegal and piracy/copyright infringement. Any legit and cheaper option? By the way how about normal free tv australia boxes like iptv other than the one with isp available for you to buy outright to stream tv show via internet directly to your tv if i do not have a smart tv?

  • Tvpad is nothing compared to the content on ubox! So yes ubox is the best I used so far

    • what apps do you use on the ubox?

      • there're default app set which is pretty good already…but you could do Kodi too
