$23.98 - 8 x AA Eneloop (Japan) Rechargeable NiMH LSD Batteries @ Dick Smith

430

Dick Smith got them on "HOT PRICE ends 15-Feb-16" special

Pickup in Store only, but ours at Runaway Bay still has stock, so quite a few might have.

They are available as Rouge (8x for $23.98): http://www.dicksmith.com.au/camera-accessories/eneloop-tones…

and UOMO (also 8x for $23.98): http://www.dicksmith.com.au/camera-accessories/eneloop-tones…

Being the Japan 3rd Generation, they are good quality, better than the Chinese ones usually offered.

I know $23.98 is not like in the "old days", but seems best you can get anywhere right now.

Well good luck!!

Hope it helps a few of you getting a last-minute Dick Smith bargain :)

  • Btw, they also have the Eneloop Combi Pack AA/AAA 8Pk for $23.98 at http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-combi-pack-aa-… but these are Chinese, so not the same quality as the Japanese ones.

  • +1
    • Pro is out of stock ….really the only type getting if on special.

      • They have 4 pack pro $17 something is this good price or the norm?

    • Rhodes have pro 8pack $33. 5 pack left

    • Thanks for this.. Got the pro from Fountain Gate pickup :)

    I thought dick was dead

    • +26

      The dick will always rise.

      • +1

        Maybe not for DS's one.

        • +1

DICK may be at a "hard" time now. but still rise.

      • but the real question is how long they will last this time.

    • most stores still open and selling "what they have" afaik :)

  • +8

sad but i just don't trust them anymore

    • +2

      Nobody wants to get "dicked"

      • +5

They did cock up their business.

  • How long until these start to degrade in the packaging? It's been awhile since these have been manufactured in Japan right?

    • on the top of the package is 2012-10, gives you a hint

      • +2

I should probably let you know that the one pictured on their site, may not be the actual pack that you receive!!! ;)

    • +1

They will work fine, but likely to have about 50% charge out of the package. Once charged they will be 100%, they will keep working for 10 yrs or more depending on usage and care, and what charger you use.

      • I know that you know these batteries well… But they are claimed to retain 70% for 5 years??? ;)

        • +1

I was being realistic, even if slightly pessimistic.

    • +1

NiMh batteries don't degrade with time, unlike non-rechargeable batteries. Just charge them up and they're as good as new. If they are actually new, they will seem a little low on capacity for the first few charge-discharge cycles. They usually reach their rated capacity about the fourth cycle.

However if you damage them, causing the overpressure seal to rupture (usually caused by overcharging or too-fast charging), then they WILL degrade with time, as the electrolyte slowly evaporates through the ruptured seal.

just like a bottle of gatorade left in the sun too long

I'm glad you describe the science in terms of a popular beverage, otherwise I would not understand.

        • +1

@nookular: Can somebody dumb it down to beer level for me…

        • +1

@StewBalls: If you shotgun an icy cold VB straight from the fridge after shaking it - well that's the standard.

If you leave a VB can out in the paddock for week and shotgun it without shaking then you may find that electrifying experience evaporating somewhat.

  • In case of non-delivery, my understanding is that payment by paypal or credit card would give you some recourse, is that right?

    • +1

I claimed back through PayPal after they went into admin for my order from before they went into admin as it was only 1/5th fulfilled. Apart from taking a few days it was easily done.

  • Can I pay with gift cards??

    • +1

I wouldn't wipe my arse with their gift cards

      • +13

I wouldn't wipe my arse with any gift cards, they are pointy.

        • +7

It's all in the technique, bit of a scraping motion

        • +8

          So many comedians in here

        • hahaha

        • @nightelves:
And they never answer original question… :)

  • None in South Australia at all it seems.

  • How many mAh does these have?

    • Minimum 1900mAh - Typical 2000mAh. If you're talking about the AAs?

      • Yes the AA's. deciding between theses and the PRO ones that have 2550mAh

        • What are you using them for?
The Pros are for high current devices like camera flashes etc. and are only rated to 500 cycles.
The standard ones are for normal everyday use in kids toys, remotes, etc. and have a claimed 1800 cycle life (for the Jap ones).

        • @Snoop: ah, didn't realise they were only rated to 500 cycles, will pick up the normal ones then. Will be using them for a wireless speaker.

          Thanks!

        • @nagel:

Remember 500 cycles is almost ten years with weekly recharging, so the 2500mAh batteries are still good for many uses.

It all depends on how often you will be recharging the batteries, and whether the extra capacity is really needed.

        • +1

yeah …. I only buy the pro ….. do the maths……. you won't be using this technology in 10 years……

        • +1

          @garage sale:

Yeah, because kids toys, tv remotes, computer mice, and torches have advanced so far in the last 10!

        • size stays the same but technology. changes they have aa lithium ion for torches now…… only about $2 each but 3600 mah …. my 9 year old also uses them in his Xbox controller seem to last forever…… so when my current eneloops die I will probably be using more aa and aaa lithium ion unless some other technology seems better value. don't have the shelf life of ni-mh but they
pack twice the capacity in the same space ….. seems to be becoming popular for bike lights also.

  • Damn you… Can't pass up a deal on the Jap Loops!!!

  • Finally bought Eneloop pro ones, needed AAA batteries.

  • Just a word of advice: For the people buying the Pros, you do know what their intended use is for, yes?
If not, look them up and work out what equipment you'll be using them in!
They're not just better versions of the standard ones!

    • +1

So what are they do you know?

      • Yes… which is why I've only got the standard ones in my house.
I don't have any equipment that would benefit from the extra capacity, at the loss of more than half it's life cycles!

  • So is eneloop pro ones good buy approx $17 for 4 are the China or Japan and what are the differences with these over so msny others offered

    • it's how fine they grind the compounds .

  • Ordered the rouge pk as was showing stock other set not in stock, and don't know anything about the pro ones.
The multi set are these japan or china as got these from grays online but may not be ones made in Japan.
Whst is the difference with ones from japan and china ones from china not last as long?
    Or other reasons?

    • +1
      • +1

The AAAs ones from China do better for some reason…
        http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?395993-Ja…

        • +1

That's because the Japanese ones cannot be purchased here anymore and are of old stock. If you go to Japan and buy their local ones then maybe those ones are better than China

I pay Eneloops because they were/are of good quality, yet to find conclusion how much China is inferior they are compared to Japan ones

    • +3

Everything Panasonic in Aus is made in China and will have a serial code starting BK-3 (AA) or BK-4 (AAA). The Sanyo ones are the previous 3rd gen made in Japan starting HR-3 or HR-4. The Uomo and Rouge are just limited edition colour 3rd gens from Japan.
The Fujitsu are also the exact same Japanese 3rd gen Eneloops. (Just in case you ever see them on special!)

      • the ones I bought from dicksmith were Panasonic pro mad in Japan manufacture date 6/2015. aa and aaa .

        • Sorry, was referring to standard Eneloops!

  • Never got my last order. Was phoned by them stating OOS and said I'll get a refund which I never got. Luckily I paid with PayPal and successfully disputed it.

    • Thanks I won't order them no point of stressing myself

      • I should state that I ordered 2 days before the halted trading.

  • I order the rouge ones picked up today no issues here they had at least 8 packs left.
But $23 a go one was enough for me.

  • I'm looking for the Sanyo AAA made in Japan ones. Package of 4 minimum. Model # HR4UTGB4TA. All sold out at Dicksmith.
Does anyone know where to get them at reasonable price? (Need them for my cordless handsets).
    Thanks.

    • check Duracell also long life and made in Japan

    • Masters still sell them at about $5 each!
