Bluesmart Suitcase - $419.30 @ Strandbags - Sign up Required

60

Hi All,
Not sure if this has been posted before but I was really interested in this suitcase and Strandbags are the only ones that have. $599 is quiet a hefty price tag and then the sales person was telling me if I sign up a loyalty member ( free to join) I get 30% any full price item. FYI - coupon is emailed to you within 1hour of signing up. As I travel for work I have been stuck many times with flat phone battery.

The weight for being a carry-on is ridiculous.

    • true, it doesnt leave you many kgs for laptop and clothes does it.

Yeah 4.5kg is quiet heavy but for overnight/day trips stuck in meetings the charging feature suits me. Especially when you are waiting for the red eye at Perth to Sydney lol.

you can always just buy a battrey pack and a cheaper bag.
Cool bag though, whats the warranty - 10-15 years like other good luggage?

      • Lol… So true. Maybe my inner geek and the cool gadget is what wins me over

        • get it, its cool. Come back later on after youve used a few times and let us know what its like.
(I personally bought a Victoria Station carry on $100, weighs 1.9kg and 10 year warranty. No where near as geeky cool though)

didnt know it was a crowd funded thing https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bluesmart-world-s-first-s…

    • Barely fit a bigger laptop with accessories in this without going over the limit.. Let alone anything else

    Seen the G-Ro bag?

    • I want G-RO now haha. Wait is too long for that one.

4.25kg luggage with 2.75kg belongings inside. So does that mean your travel luggage is pretty much just a big box lol.

On other notes, I don't really see the point of a tracker for carry on luggage as it's always with you unlike check in luggage.

If there is a plane crash on some deserted island with 3g coverage you might think differently about the tracker.

      • Are you saying that MH-320 could have been avoided if someone had one of these? Wow.. thats clever..

  • More info here on the features since Strandbags doesn't have much.

Basically 3g, gps, distance alerts, 10,000 mHa battery.

  • Cool!
I would love to buy it when the price comes down to under $200 though.

  • "you have 10 free traces so use them wisely". So you gotta pay each time after that?!

    Review:
And note the update down the bottom which shows the company is run by arsehats.

The idea sounds cool and nifty but the features don't really seem all that necessary - especially for that price imo. And too heavy.

haha.. The CEO is a nutcase. Definitely wouldnt be buying this bag. If you want a battery for your iPad/Smartphone, get the 10,000mAH from Xiaomi on OZB for like $30. It really doesnt make much sense of a GPS tracker and stuff since its always going to next to you, unless you got like secret service documents that someone had stolen the bag away from you. Honestly though, even with all the gizmo's in there - I still do not know how they made this "Carry on" so heavy. It defeats the purpose altogether.

yep xiaomi battery pack and an old android phone inside for tracking…

  • Apart from the review mentioned above, there are more issues on size.
I'm guessing as a startup they have only one size. But I see 3 sizes:
    - US web site originally – 118 linear cm
    - US web site after the bad review - 113cm
    - Strandbags website - 109cm

It seems that the Strandbags website is wrong and will now be corrected tonight. That means that the bag does fit the carry on rules for Qantas and Jetstar (115cm). But fails to meet the 105cm limit of Virgin and Tiger.

But here is the rub: with a battery inside you cannot safely / legally check this bag in. All lithium batteries must now be carrier personally. .

So imagine arriving at Virgin – sorry sir bag too big. Ok check it in. Sorry sir you cannot check in a battery. Ok hand me one of those garbage bags for my clothes and lets throw away this $600 bag …. OK maybe remove the battery - but there goes your smart tracking..

You can replicate the charger with any number of back up batteries.

You can replicate the tracking with maps and “Bluetooth lost keys” with a LugLoc and its mapping app. No longer sold by the AU agent but available mail order from the USA… and transferable to any bag you own.

That leaves the scale - I have a $15 item that no less inaccurate.

Besides - a 4.7kg bag empty – you will hit the 7kg very limit quickly.
