Car Accident by My Fault

It's all my fault cause I didn't pay attention enough.

I hit into the car infront of me, then causing the car rammed straight into the back of car in front…

I have Third Party Insurance, anyone have idea how much will it cost to fix from pictures below? (it looks like just the bumper need to replace)

I need to pay $950 Excess Fee, which if cost approximately the same, Can I pay out of pocket and not to claim with insurance?

One car back bumper at the least, other car front and back bumper at the least. No way will it be less than your excess unless you have a smash repairer in the family.

You'd also have to stop both of them from alerting their own insurance otherwise your insurance company may already know.

Afraid I think you'll have to pay the excess and increased premiums for this one. Sorry!!

    • Really?? I didn't know the bumper cost that much.

I'm 24 and how long will this record keep for?? Will it affect all my car insurance the rest of my life?

      • I just helped my partner do insurance for his car. I think it'll affect you for 3 years but I could be wrong

3 large parts for new cars, ordered from the manufacturers, with fitting and spraying and paint matching etc. That's assuming the impact didn't bend any other panels (which it probably did, cars are built to crumple to absorb impact so the people inside them don't). It gets expensive fast.

There's no "set limit" that insurance companies all agree to, but as @mintysaurus said your premiums will probably level out completely after 3 years of no claims. First year will be the worst, second not as bad, third year mostly back to the base rate.

For one smallish claim it won't be an outrageous increase so don't stress too much.

  • Tough luck there mate. It's up to those you hit to decide whether they would accept a cash job or to go through it properly with insurance. I think in most cases most would choose the insurance route simply because of the potential for hidden damage. Hopefully it's not too much an increase in your premium!

2 cars, 3 bumpers at a minimum. Yeah pay your excess, it won't be less than a grand that's for sure.

Not to mention they have every right to claim a hire car while their car is getting repaired for an accident they didn't cause

  • I guess you didnt dodge that one. The nissan pulsar will be the cheapest to repair aslong as the boot didnt get pushed up.

Defintely cost you more than your excess

So you were texting whilst driving eh? If so, you should consider yourself lucky to getting off this lightly…

I was hit in the back a few months ago - less damage than this but it still needed a new bumper etc.

The repair to my vehicle (BMW) alone were $2.5k + Hire Car costs of approx. $500. Total $3k.

  • At least $950 per bumper per car so yeah pay your excess and possibly invest in a lesson or 2.

You'll have increased premiums for the next probably 5 years.

  • For a decent respray of a bumper you are looking at at least $450 alone. You can find cheaper but it will be crap quality and won't repair any damage.

  • Plus you will be up for the cost of replacing any child seats in the car too. They range around the $200-600 mark.

    • Does insurance also cover items inside the vehicle? E.g tools, clothing, foods.

      • up to a certain point, yes. need to prove it was damaged in the accident or loss was due to accident.

  • I had my front bumper replaced recently during a not at fault accident. Other party had no insurance and had to pay $3.5k for the repairs out of pocket. Insurance gave me a hire car too, not sure if they had to pay for that.
