i3 Samsung Cuts out and Shuts down

I have an older i3 samsung laptop which tends to shut down - overheated? not sure if worth repairing. or upgrading? who is best to look at this and what would it cost? am in sydney and need to decide whether to get a new laptop or repair it? its specs are;-
win 7 premium svc pack 1; samsung 4.9 win experience index; intel core 13 cpu; M330@ 2.13 GHz; memory 4Gb ram 2.99 usable; 32 bit operating system; no pen or touch input;

I have replaced the battery and the problem is it works for a while before it overheats? or it could be hardware? eg connector or even adapter? or even internal? or software? it works for a time and then suddenly cuts out.

am a newbie and non IT tech guy.

    If it's heat related, clean it out.

    edit: what makes you think it's heat related? Is it hot?

    • no warmer than most laptops after use for an hour

      • Heat isn't a definite then. Check the air exhaust and inlet ports for any build-up of dust, but you might need to take the cover off and look inside. Laptops commonly build up a layer of "felt" on the heat sink.

        What type of shutdown are you talking about? Screen goes black, windows shuts off? Can you turn it on immediately again? Are there any lights flashing?

  • Do you have anyone technical in your family or friends who could take a look at it? It could be a lot of different things, some simple to fix, others not so.

    • unfortunately retired and family are not nearby; friends are busy working and not available for such favours. thank you for the suggestion.

  • Before you buy another laptop or repair it, back up everything then format it.

  • ty. will do.
