AmEx Platinum Card or AmEx Platinum Business Card?

Hi guys,

Just wondering which one would you choose given the following scenario:

  • sme owner that travels to London regularly with irregular travels to HK or Singapore each year (business purpose)
  • currently some of my business bills (amazon cloud, mailchimp, keen.io, etc) are paid using personal credit card, totaling around $5000 a month.

I just recently found this forum after searching for better ways to maximize my points. I've been with commbank CC for years (since graduating from uni), and never bothered with points until recently.

So given my situation, would you rather take the amex platinum card (personal) and continue pay for some of the business bills and have around 60,000 pts every year. Or, pay a bit extra and get the platinum express to have a clean and non-complicated account, separating personal expense from business expense.

Or any other solutions? Another note: i much prefer to travel with Singapore airlines rather Qantas simply because of the stopover in Singapore is very convenient when travelling to London. I fly qantas for shorter flight time, ie. to anywhere in Asia apart from Singapore.

Thanks in advance

    Damn you must be rich.

(This comment does not help. I know.)

  • Unless you require 99 Supplementary, or Monthly Business Expenses Insurance (Maximum $12,000), the benefits are almost similar, with $1500 annual fee compared to $1200 for personal I would say go for for personal platinum charge card. You would currently get 120,000 sign up bonus points using a referral link. Currently platinum business has 150,000 sign up bonus till 31st March 2016, but then you would pay $300 more annually for card with similar benefits.

  • Thx Rashed…

Do you find this card is worth the $1200 annual fee?

    • Value depends on the user. Look at the benefits, until 14th april you can register for Accor Plus with platinum Le club (1 free night), plus 5 other hotel chain elite status, 10 or more airlines point transfer partner (better transfer rate). Two priority pass prestige with 1 free guest each, lounge access when you fly with virgin australia domestic. Amex lounge access, delta sky lounge access. Complimentary Amex Platinum Reserve with 1 free flight, $300 travel credit, free roadside assistance*, travel insurance, extended warranty, purchase protection, and many more…

Business owner who use the card for business purpose may get the annual fee put on as business expense(ask your account).

125,000 Velocity points will get you return to Europe with Etihad (economy), but also one way in business class.

110k will get you one way to Europe with Singapore first class - that includes the insanely luxurious suites, if you can manage to get a flight on the A380.

The 120,000 points more than justify the fee (for first year at least). And if you out your business expenses amd travel through Amex Platinum Charge, I believe you will earn the annual fee in points easily*

      • Damn that Accor plus deal is dead now

Yeah, it was replaced by Hilton HHonors Gold, plus $100 extra Amex Platinum Travel Credit (now $300, previously it was $200)

        • @rashed: Rather Accor over Hhonors tbh!

  • Thanks Rashed.. I think I will get the business one, to get deduction on my business expense as this would be purely business expense anyway.

    Will use your referral link.

  • Hey Op? Which card did you end up getting? Can you enable PM’s, I have a few questions.
