Free Butler for One Week @ Get Jarvis, Normally $33 [Melbourne]

1070

Hi everyone!

We recently started a personal butler company in Melbourne called Jarvis (www.getjarvis.com.au). We're really new to this, and we'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve and grow!

The basic idea is that for $33 per week we'll send you your very own personal butler, to handle all your chores from groceries and tidying to laundry and dry cleaning. If you're interested you can read more about us here: http://www.startupdaily.net/2016/03/melbourne-startup-jarvis…

Anyone who signs up in the next three days will get a free week's trial of the service. Here's a link to create an account: www.getjarvis.com.au/app. There are no strings attached, and if you don't like the service, you can cancel at any time.

Again, we'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve our service, so after your trial we'll send through a follow up survey as well.

We're really early stage and any support or advice we get would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

EDIT 1: When creating an account, feel free to click "Fill in Later" when the app prompts you for credit card details :)

EDIT 2: Offer is only available in Melbourne for the time being but if you're from interstate and are interested in Jarvis, create an account and you'll be the first to know when we arrive!

EDIT 3: So grateful to you guys! We've been absolutely flooded with demand and positive feedback from everyone, and we're really excited to roll our sleeves up and get to work. Unfortunately it means that we might not be able to handle all these free trial visit in the next week, but we'll do our best to organise them as soon as possible - thanks in advance for understanding!

  • I like this idea. Best of luck to you guys!

    • Thanks vyviel, your support - and the support of the whole OzBargain community - has been overwhelming!

  • good idea. I use airtasker for cleaning, etc, so getjarvis may replace (all or some of) that.
will you implement an effective open-review system viewable by first time users, or is it individual customer needs based model where butler skill sets have been mapped by you?
imo, some of the cleaners i've had are not experienced enough for the fixed/flat price. i'm sure you will address that.
how will you QA your core services provided, or will they speak for they quality themselves?
pricing or services included - maybe make it be more competitive?
you may not need to give free trials fr marketing, rather a 50% discount on the 2nd chore for the 'new user' who uses the butler service now, or similar.
best of luck, hope it takes off, as some people in cities can make good use of this

Hi abh_gup, thanks for the detailed feedback! An open-review system is definitely something we've considered, but decided against. There are a couple reasons for that - the first, like you say, is that a lot of clients have specific requests, which requires us to map them to the best possible butler with a potentially specific skill-set. Second, some butlers might be area-specific (eg. someone who only wants to work in South Yarra), meaning the open-review system might not be that useful. Thirdly, and most importantly, we want it to be very clear that when you engage Jarvis you're engaging the firm and not its individual employees: on a firm-level, we guarantee the quality of our cleaners and our service.

With that said we do have a couple of quality control mechanisms that you might be interested that ensure you can trust your butler (copied from above):
      1. They're fully insured, and thoroughly background checked (including with police checks).
      2. They're actual employees of Jarvis (rather than just contractors), meaning they're carefully vetted and trained.
      3. We try to organise a first visit time at your home or at your workplace so that you can meet your butler and make sure that they're a good fit for you (as well as to find out more about how the service works and give them any preferences for your chores).
      4. We do follow up calls with customers on a regular basis to ensure that the quality of the service provided continues to be at the high level our clients expect. If there are problems with a particular butler and their quality, we follow that up very quickly to figure out why.

You also make a great point on how we can structure the promotional offer - the 50% discount is definitely something we can experiment with. For the time being though, we wanted to open it up to get as much feedback about the service as possible :)

Thanks again and hopefully we hear from you at some point!

If I dress up as Batman will your butler call me Master Wayne, or will he remember to address me as Batman. If it helps I've been practicing growling "I'm Batman!".

Just taking the mickey. No offense intended.

Only if you have a batmobile to back it up ;)

  • Great concept, may need more fine tunings but still very impressive, Good luck to you!

    • Thanks Craig - definitely needs a lot more fine tuning, but we've already gotten a heap of valuable feedback from the OzBargain community about how to improve our service, and are looking forward to a lot of the same over the next few weeks! Thanks for your support and if you ever need a personal butler, you know where to look :)

  • Sad that nothing's available in Caroline Springs :(

    • Sorry stevensx, not in Caroline Springs right now but sign up on the app and we'll let you know when we do arrive -be sure to let any friends in your area know about us too so we can speed that process up! :)

  • I don't think this had been covered entirely: I'm sick of my cleaner. She is blind, arrogant and ineffective. She's also the best I've found. (profanity) Melbourne for this reason.

Anyway, can your butlers preform full, thorough, cleans? What might it cost for, say, two hours of house cleaning?

    • +2

Hi a22andrew, we definitely can handle full, thorough cleans, but typically we quote on a house-to-house basis - feel free to shoot us a private message with a few more details (eg. area, the sort of tasks you're after) and we'll get back to you :)

Do you have any French maids?

    • A mate of mine drives some professional ladies who would happily wear that uniform from job to job, only trouble is they charge a fair bit more hourly! :'(

      • 'professional'

  • I hope you guys really get this going! And maybe we'll see this around the world… :)

    • Thanks for the support Monday - really appreciated and hopefully we see you around! :)

Hmm, I wouldn't mind a personal assistant to constantly scan OB for me while I'm at work so I don't miss any deals.

  • Have you got any butlers named Benson?

  • Subcontractors or Employees? From reading your Legal section you only 'facilitate' things. Is my property insured by your company? Am i covered if the person injures themself in my house?

None of these things are answered by your website.

I don't want to have to go to legal to chase damages on an individual who screws something up or steals something, or get sued…

*** ahhh nvm, its in the interview you had with startup daily. Feel better knowing they are employees as i know who has liability :P

    • Hi Serapis, thanks for the feedback - we'll make sure we update our legal section to give you as much detail as possible in future! But yes, as you've said our butlers are all employees - meaning the liability ultimately lies with us if things go wrong. Hope this helps!

  • Please make for Jarvis a sister maid cleaning/catering service called Ada. I will love you forever.

Some people may feel a little more comfortable/safer this way than having a male enter the house for a period of time (may make safety for the maid a little complex though)

    • You could ask for a female. I certainly didn't assume that they would all be males.
