Health Insurance Policy charged was Not The Same as Quoted

Hi,

I am new to health insurance and today i took out a new policy with medibank online. And I have been charged a different amount on the credit card to what got quoted on the payment page. Also in the welcome email, the monthly payment is more than what was quoted online. So I want to ask if I have been charged incorrectly or there is something I have missed when signing up? Just want to know if I am wrong before having to call them up to clarify. Thanks

  • Are you over 30 it could be the 2% loading for every year over 30 that you haven't held cover

  • No I am under 30

  • Same issue with me when I signed up for bupa. Called them up and they said I needed to fill out a "government rebate form". This reduced my premium to whatever they quoted. They said I can claim back the extra I've paid when I do my tax return.

Not sure if they'll allow it, but if you can, backfill the start date to when your first applied.

    • Oh right. That must be it then. This is my first health insurance policy and I didn't understand that part. It just seemed weird to me that the amount quoted on the payment page is not what was charged to the card. It could cause trouble for people, for example what if they only had the exact amount in the bank account and paid by direct debit or debit card. They could have the transaction not approved or get charged overdrawn fees, etc.

      • I thought the same, but when I first joined, they sent a welcome pack saying I should fill out the form XD so kinda my fault

        • Fill the rebate form and send it to them.

As for your first payment, if you don't really need the extra $20-ish, just do it as part of your tax returns. It's a lot easier that way.
