HP Microserver N54L Won't Turn on

My N54L has decided to die out of nowhere. Power button has amber light on but does nothing when pressed. Network indicator would still flash but it just wouldn't turn on. No power surge/outage when it happened. Any suggestions?

It's a big poster sized PDF.

Start at the top. Work your way down.

    • That's awesome. I've been working with computers for years and never come across anything as detailed as this. Some of it is a little behind the times, but from a quick skim it looks to be fairly bang on.

I would try isolating everything first, unplugging everything but the bare essentials. Then try shorting the power on switch manually with a flathead screwdriver or what not. If you still get nothing, it's most likely the board. You could grab another ATX PSU and try that though but I'm not sure if that's the problem.

      • Agree, likely motherboard or CPU.
I don't think it is the PSU given the power button has an amber light, and NIC activity light is on.

  • I had a similar problem with my ReadyNAS not powering on (power light flickered on briefly, and a clicking noise was audible). Fixed my issue by unplugging the power cord, attempting to power it on unplugged, then plug it back in and it would power on again. I likely caused the problem introducing a static charge when touching a drive bay whilst powered on.
