No Man's Sky (PC) GOG Pre-Order $43.65 AUD. Normal Price $62. VPN Required

110

No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, coming soon to PS4 and PC.

The standard GOG AUD price is $62 with Steam wanting $60usd (near $80usd). As this is the first game from this studio I was hesitant to fork out so much for the pre-order. So I decided to try my luck with the usual options of a VPN and got lots of variation. The price came to just over $41 plus add a conversion fee.

The initial price was R1999 Rubles - of course I was in Russia at the time :P

Using Chrome as your browser (may work with others) do the following:

  1. Open Chrome and clear all cookies/history.
  2. Activate VPN and choose your location as Russia - open www.gog.com
3.Use the search to find the game, add to your cart, and choose to checkout from the cart icon.
4.You will need to log in to your GOG account at this point - you might want to change your GOG password after this is all completed.
    5.Select payment method - I used paypal.
6.You will be taken to the payments or paypal page - at this point DISABLE the VPN as you don't want your payment details going through the VPN.
7.Pay in full and you will be taken back to GOG to see your order completion and ref number.
    8.Log out of GOG

It should be obvious that you need an existing GOG account to complete this order.

Note that the GOG page will be in Russian so either use Google to help you or just wing it as if you have used GOG before then the selections are in the same place.

Price will also vary a little depending on the AUD value on the day.

The last time i buy from gog, you can no longer use this kind of method, its simple won't work and won't let you complete the purchase, not to mention that No Man Sky's is going to be region lock or not, its quite a high risk

I wouldn't post it if it didn't work. I always try myself before passing on such things. Hopefully it works for others.

      • Ah alright then, i will consider this deal

Gog games are Region free and drm free

  • I gotta wait for reviews before dropping money on this game.

    • Reminds me a lot of Spore

Glad it worked for you. I had the price change thing happen until I cleared history cookies. Even had different dollar amounts show up but the Rubles stayed stable for me. I guess it depends on your VPN or something.

      • so did u end up getting the amount to show?

        • +1

First Rubles then after paypal minus the VPN it showed AUD price. I had everything from Euros to Philippine Pesos show when experimenting. On an early try it just stayed as USD but I messed around to make sure that the deal would work for others.

  • Do any chrome or Firefox vpm free add-ons work for this?

I didn't try the free ones but Hola worked on a previous deal I posted. Now with Hola you have to become an exit node when using it which might just be too dodgy (people using your connection for all kinds of stuff). Maybe try Tunnel Bear?

OP, not the first game for Hello Games but their last one was a lot smaller, the owner of the studio has worked as a programmer and technical lead on some big name games before setting up his own studio.

  • PC or PlayStation? Looks like such a good console game.

    • Deal is for PC version. Many games now are multi-platform or just console ports to PC. As this is a pre-order it is hard to tell what it will finally be like.

Yeah, I'm a big GoG fan but I believe this will run well on the PS4 and this seems like a big screen game to me. Such a good looking game I should be able to get my wife to watch and feign interest in it.

How is this a deal? The game has zero discount and not on a sale discount on gog. Bending the rules to pay for it in equivalent to russian roubles can be done for any game on GOG (think TW3 maybe the only exception…).

    • It's been a deal multiple times in the past - Mexico Origin buys appear a lot.

    • True, does this really qualify as a deal? Isnt this just the regular price for overseas with a bypass to get that price?

Good idea but i am leaning toward forum post rather than a deal.

      • Yes it is a deal, getting the game cheaper than what you can is definitely a deal, whether rrp or not

        • +2

Should we have a deal for every single game that you can buy at overseas RRP? If so we could post thousands of them.

If it is the regular price then it isnt really a deal, it is just buying at a regular price from overseas.

        • @Duff5000: You definitely can. There is no rule against that and your post will not get removed by mod.

        • @Letrico:
I hope not. I don't want to see thousands of @ rrp games come up just becasue you can buy them with a vpn. The mods may have a different opinion though. Overseas RRPs just don't really sound like a deal to me. If they were on special in another country and not here then sure.

        • @Duff5000:

I see your point, but if there is a way to get something cheaper, its a bargain, overseas or not.

        • Thing is 99% of games can be got cheaper if you use a VPN to buy them through sites that offer cheaper RRP if your buying from a given country. I wouldnt class it as a deal, more as a tutorial how to get around geo ip blocks using vpns etc….

  • thanks OP, ass for some of the rest of you.. you can lead a horse to water, but you can't stop it bitching.

Step one could be avoided if you use chrome incognito.

  • "As this is the first game from this studio" - it's not. But granted they've never done anything to this scale before.
