Anyone know how to squeeze Telstra for a better deal on the HTC 10?

I am not on contract, have not been for a long time. Own the original Nexus 5 (is it gen 2013) and looking to upgrade.

Was going to get a Nexus 6P but Telstra don't offer it on plan yet, not in a place to buy one outright so am looking at the new HTC 10 on contract. Just wonder if there are any tricks to talking them into a better deal?

My partner will get my Nexus as a hand me down.

  • Get a better deal on Telstra? Unlikely.

  • Here's how I did it with internet: rang them and kept repeating what I wanted regardless of what they told me. What I wanted was 100Mbit cable internet with 1000GB download for $89.95 per month and all connection costs waived including technician and cable modem/router.

Just continuously repeat what you want regardless of anything they tell you such as you can't get that, that would be an unbelievably unheard of thing, no way in hell, I never heard of that plan blah blah.

After an hour or three I got to someone who gave me what I wanted. Although they did try to post-negotiation shaft me by connecting me at 33Mbit instead of 100 and "offering" me 100bit for an additional 20 bucks. So instead of simply repeating what I wanted over and over I said it once (demanded they connect me at 100Mbit) and then went to TIO because I know how the system works now. And got it how Telstra agreed to provision it eventually.

You have to act like a complete moron while they go through all the scripts they use to get people to pay as much as possible but eventually after literally hours of phone calls plus further TIO procedures you get what you like :D

    • worth a try cheers

    • The deal you got is the Large Bundle they are currently advertising for $99.95
You can get up to $20 a month discount on this deal at their discretion. (You are signing up for a 24 month deal)
With cable, Professional install is free. Modem is Free as well. 5 connections point free as well.

  • Seeing as JB HIFI is a Telstra dealer, maybe you could try them to see if you have any luck?

  • I more meant is Telstra likely to bend on the plan itself. For exmample the offering of data or reduce the price to match competitors at all?

  • There's always their amway deal as well, but the 10 isnt on the list yet

  • I tried to bargain with them online but the person insisted they do not price match etc

  • They are not interested in long term customer, all they want is the door to be open and new customer coming in.
