Free Lunch + $1 Delivery for Sydney Businesses (>15 Registered Users REQ) @ HowAboutEat

FIRSTLUNCH

Just had this handed out to me. It's nice to get a change from ShopWings/Uber/HelloFresh/Blue wine thingo/Cleaning thingo for once! Never heard of these bunch but their concept seems interesting.

Details are scarce at this stage, but all I know is it's only valid for new customers and expires on 30/06/2016.

It appears to be geared towards employees of specific companies, and you can only order if your company is on the list, according to the FAQ.

When and where is my lunch delivered?

We deliver lunch to your company’s reception every day between 12pm and 12.30pm. You will receive a text to confirm that your meal has arrived. All food to be delivered to your company will be left in our green HowAboutEat bag so that, if you are in a meeting or are busy when food arrives, it will stay warm.

It also appears that you have no specific choice of food (you either accept what they have on the day or you don't order), also from the FAQ:

Where is the menu?

Unlike a traditional food delivery website, we offer a different tasty dish every day from the best local restaurants and, if you like it, you can order it but just replying "YES" to our daily message. This is our way to make super easy and convenient for you to order lunch when you are busy at work!

I'm not sure whether you have to pay for the $1 delivery fee if you use the code. I'll update this post as people report stuff :)

  • I like the concept, too bad only Sydney

    • +1

That's not bad, its called a Business Opportunity if you live elsewhere ;)

I don't have it in me to go up against ubereats, deliveroo and domino's. They'd mop the floor with me.

  • Hmm… I work in the burbs. I doubt I can get my company added.

Depending on how much the meals cost, may be worth it.

    • Hi and thanks for your comment :)

Prices are between $8.50 and $13 and for now we deliver to Sydney CBD, North Sydney, Surry Hills and Mascot, and we'll expand in new areas soon!

  • reading the FAQ they only deliver to certain companies. my wife's is listed but mine isn't. shame coz I'm the lazy one

    • +2

That's OK, your wife can deliver your lunch to you :p

    • You can add your company if it is in one of our delivery areas (Sydney CBD, North Sydney, Surry Hills and Mascot)

      :)

      • is there any way around the 15 people registering part? I don't want to go around talking to the people in my office, and you already have a company on the list 2 floors up in my building, so your delivery people will likely end up here anyway

        • Talk to someone from that company and arrange to be able to collect your order from their floor.

          @roughana:

you underestimate just how lazy I am

this is not a bargain you need to be part of a company with 15 registered users!

Hi everyone! I am Giovanni from HowAboutEat :) To clarify some of the points mentioned above to make sure you can all take advantage of our introductory offer!

    • we now deliver in Sydney CBD, Surry Hills, Mascot and North Sydney (and adding new areas soon!)

    • if your company is in one of those areas but you cannot find it on our website, you can click on the "add company" link during registration and invite your colleagues to join. Once we have at least 15 employees registered in a company, we activate deliveries

    • meals usually cost between $8 and $12 plus the $1 delivery fee

    • there is a new restaurant every day with a meat and a vegetarian dish per day (you receive a text with one or the other depending on your food preference) and if you like it, all you have to do is reply "yes"

Our goal is to help busy workers never skip lunch again with the easiest and cheapest way to get lunch delivered at work :)

    You can register at www.howabouteat.com

If you have more questions feel free to ask here or via the chat on our website.

Welcome rep! Good to see you here and glad to see you're open and willing to answer questions (although I'd expect nothing less from a rep)

  • Do you disclose what the dish is? For example, I detest lamb and prawns. Is it just meat OR vego, or do you disclose Berk lasagne or quinoa salad, for example? Thanks.

  • +2

Yes we do :) every text has the name of restaurant and meal, the price, and a link if you want to check the ingredients. They look like this: "How about chicken burritos for lunch? From Guzman Y Gomez for $12. Check it out here link or reply YES by 11am to order!"

  • Are you negotiating with the restaurant for a cheaper price than usual because of the bulk order?
Are you passing this on to customers?

    • Even if they're not passing on a (significant) discount, no biggie from my point of view. These guys are obviously a business and out there to make money too. If it's too expensive just don't order :)

    • Hi and thanks for your message :)

The price of the meals is the same that you would find in the restaurants. The value we offer to our customers is the simplicity of the order and the $1 only delivery fee

  • Like the idea, however I think your list of companies could do with a little updating.

For example, Barclays is no longer in Sydney, and Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, KPMG etc are not on the list.

These are presumably the sorts of companies you would be primarily targeting since they would have the highest numbers of people who may be too busy to get out for lunch

    • I gather that the list of companies is derived from those that already have 15 people interested.
If the list is to be expanded then 15 people within those companies need to express their interest.

      • I don't think that's the case but am happy to be corrected if wrong.

Firstly, plenty of boutiques which probably don't even have 15 staff on that list.

Secondly, as I pointed out, Barclays don't exist in Sydney.

    • Thank you all for your comments!

If you see companies in the list, it means people registered with those companies. If they are not, it is because we have not had enough sign-ups yet or we are not targeting them yet :)

      It's pretty much a crowd-sourced list

There might be companies with less than 15 users who have not reached yet their minimum number.

The important part is that it is hopefully super easy for you to find or add your company :)

  • Is there a list of names of people who ordered delivered?
I can envisage someone wanting to confirm if their order was received and delivered and possibly ripped off by someone else who didnt order.

  • So you have to get 14 others in your company to give their details to get 1 free lunch?

    • +1

Yes if your company is not already in the programme, but technically it would be 15 free lunches of which you only get one.
