Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - Where to buy?

Hi guys,

I am in the market to buy a new phone for my wife. Looking to buy Samsung Note 4. She already has LG g3 (2gb version)and been complaining about how laggy it has gone. ( 16+32 gb is about 80% full).

I checked few websites like DWI and it's about $550 delivered.

Also, on ebay one seller is selling a new one for about $520 brand new.

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks in advance.

If that is your wife's only gripe, I would suggest you backup her data and do a factory reset and save yourself some money. Phones become slow as you fill it up. Even if you get a new phone you will have the same problem. Same with computers. Old computers don't become slower as they age, they get bogged down by the installed programs and data on the hard drive.

However, knowing women, when she says that it is laggy, it could also mean that she wants a new phone or a variety of other things. You would be a better judge.

    • You are correct in saying "when she says that it is laggy, it could also mean that she wants a new phone or a variety of other things".
That's their way of saying get me a new phone.
I have reset and restored her phone twice and I don't see any lag. I just sold my Redmi Note 2 and will get her a new samsung and I'll be happy with Lg G3 to be honest

Lol.. Here's a tip for you… before she gets to the dreaded "get me a new phone" stage, you should "invest" in some new covers for her phone every once in a while without her asking. Don't get the cheapest $1 covers from ebay. Spend a little bit more, maybe $5 to $10 to get a "cool" novelty cover. This would stretch out the time between the dreaded "get me a new phone" stages.

Can't help you with new phones, but I found the second hand one on Gumtree is good, make sure you get a carrier phone as they have 2 years warranty. So if you get a year old phone, there is still another year manufacturer warranty left.

        • wow great tip!
I have bought her about 6-7 covers and about 4-5 tempered glass protectors ( she broke the last one too somehow).

How about waiting for the next time Kogan has a sale and get her a LG G4? It's a great Korean phone with fantastic specs for the price of $370.

EDIT: oh wait, i read your comment. Yeah she wants a new type of phone then.

    • I am too scared to get LG G4 after reading those boot loop issues man. I love the G3

Yep, I am one of those people. But the camera on the G4 is really good. Miles better than my old Samsung Note 3. Depends on what your wife likes to use the phone for I guess.

        • I use my Nikon D610 camera for photography so that camera thing doesn't bother me but the 2K screen is absolutely amazing on G3. It's a surprise for her she doesn't know, anniversary gift man…!

  • I've got the LG G4 and i've got no issues with it. It does heat up during games - if your wife plays them. But other than that, great battery life, awesome UI and up to 2 TB on SD card, you'll never run out of space.

    • 2TB ? HOW?

      • that's what the phone supports not that there are any affordable 2TB microsd cards. You could always use an OTG cable and usb thumb drive.

  • If you get the note4 she will complain even more. I got rid of mine cause I couldn't stand it anymore… never had a device as laggy as the note 4, couldn't believe it!
5-10sec to open the camera, or go to the home page from any app after pressing the home button. Took even longer to get to the gallery… horrible horrible device :(

    • oh really ?
      Was it faulty ?
I have two friends using it and they are happy with it.

Didn't seem like it was faulty hardware wise, can't test anymore as I sold it, but just a bit of personal experience.
Another thing is it doesn't look like Samsung is making any effort to get marshmallow on this device.

People is reselling their Moto x style for around $450 brand new with local warranty on ebay and gumtree, its not a bad choice for nearly stock android.

    or get a Nexus 6p for $712

IOS is very smooth, another thing to consider. iPhone SE $675

    Try OzMobiles
    https://www.ozmobiles.com.au

I bought an iPad2 from them earlier this year and have had no problems with it. The device was faultless, as near as I could tell.

At about the same time my wife bought an iPhone 6 from them. She initially had a problem with iTunes as the device was linked to the previous owner's Apple account but this was sorted out and no further problems. Again, the device itself seemed like new.

They have a number of Note4s such as

and I am interested as well to replace my slightly buggy Redmi Note 2.

  • Note 4 is complete crap, bf is ready to put a custom rom on it. Unbelievably slow, I laugh when he tries to show me things on it and it takes ages even to get a keyboard up, or the notification bar down.

    • I just read there are few fake models out there too, now this is worrying.

I've had a Note 4 for over a year, I would say the opposite.
The stock bloated rom is still quite quick (no discernible diff to the iphone 6).

The only thing is the size, make sure your better half doesn't mind the size.

For cases, I had a speigen bumper case (no screen protector), the kids drop it numerous times (including down the stairs) no a scratch on it. I then swapped it over to a s-view case (which is good) but now there's scratches & small chips on the corner (no stair dropping).

I'm still waiting for the OS upgrade from 5.1 -=> 6.x

    • Same is the case with her G3 man. Crack on the bottom on the phone already. And no OS upgrade yet.

      • The other bit of advice is to check the model version & which 4g bands it supports. IIRC there were maybe 2 version which supported Telstra/Optus 700Mhz 4g.

Also I ended up spending an extra $80 & buying locally so I could get a 2yr local Samsung warranty (& consumer law protection), because I am wary of these '12mths local warranty' provided by OS suppliers.

If your not in a hurry maybe wait until early June to see if there's some EOFY sales on.
