        • i cried when i realised this.

    • Vodafone is much faster in my experience.

  • If you're on a prepaid OPTUS SIM would you lose the unlimited music streaming if you switch to this monthly deal?

  • I am currently 2 months into a 12 month contract on a $40 plan getting 7GB. I just asked through Webchat and they were able to recontract me on this plan without penalty. Thanks Neil for sharing this deal!

    • you are LUcky you can change without Penalty. They wanted to charge penalty on my changes.

      • You need to argue hard via chat. They will waive the fees.

        • My taunt of being a Long loyal customer didn't work :( but will try again with different Reps.

        • Well My Hard Argument didn't come to fruition :( more frustration. Chatted with 4 different Reps and made it worse :( No luck for me this time

        • @whtbox:

I also tried twice. The second time it worked, the rep agreed to waive the early termination fees for my current plan and now i will continue paying for only handset on my old plan, but now i am on above mentioned new sim only plan till next april.

Try calling retention team, only they can CHANGE the plan. Sales team can only sell the plans available in their system, they can't change anything.

  • Does anyone know if the $20 discount will remain even after 12 months?

    • -1

      Ummmm, no.

      • That sucks.

        • Most % off/$ off discounted deals for postpaid services are time limited. By that, I mean those discounts will ordinarily expire after a certain period of continuous connection.

Some exceptions do exist though. A number of months ago Vodafone was offering a flat $ discount for postpaid plans for as long as the connection was maintained.

Nonetheless, with the many deals for prepaid starter kits doing the rounds lately most postpaid deals nowadays look rather unattractive.

    • I think it does… At least when I signed up inMarch.

    • $60 My Plan Plus 12 month SIM only: Sign up online between 17 May 2016 7pm (AEST) to 18 May 2016 7pm (AEST) and get $20 off the access fee for the life of your plan.

    • +2

I spoke to an operator on the chat and was advised it would remain the same after 12 months!

      • +1

I spoke to a phone operator and was told the $20 off would remain after the 12month contract too.

  • +1

This deal effectively replicates the $50 offering from Vodafone, so the saving of $20/month is actually a saving of $10/month given that Optus and Vodafone are effectively competing in the same domain.

Vodafone's offering also offers unlimited data for the first two months as well as $5 roaming in selected countries.

  • Thanks sharing the deal. My telstra plan expires on 1st June, would I be able to sign this deal and set it to start from 1st June? Or does this contract need to start today? Thanks.

  • +1

i did mine online and for $50 i get:

    1. 11gb data (non of this bs peak and off peak crap telstra talk about)
    2. 500 mins international talk time (not that i have any one to use it with……
    3. unlimited talk and text/mms in aus….. the usual stuff now days.
  • @neil I like the archive bit that you done. Been moving from plan to plan with all the promos, sometimes I get confused with what I actually am on, especially with Optus. When you log in, you only see the non-discount plan rate and the confusing billing (when you have multiple lines under one account) doesnt help at all with the full rate charge followed by the random discounts. I lost track of how much credit I'm supposed to get for each line (under different promos).

I think the screenshot is also valuable as too often when I try to search OZB past posts, I cant remember which ones I signed up for (since I liked so many posts). Chatting agents have no clue and only accounts team can access and tell you exactly when you signed up, when the promotional credits run out and what the amount of credits are for.

    Good deal!

Had a few lines with Optus, thought the Aldi deal was a good time to use the Telstra network without actually going to Telstra (horror stories), moved a line over and realised I had far better reception and data speed on Optus than Telstra. Suggest getting a prepaid sim and try out the network prior to switching, almighty Telstra's network may work for most, but its apparent Optus won on reception and data speed for me.

    • +1

Yeah, it's bad when you can't remember but worse when Optus can't remember like this thread.

      • Had the same issue, was also on the same promo.

Expiring this month so Aldi deal came in time for a Telstra trial, otherwise would have revert back to $60 p/m. Nov deal was good, key difference apart from the short promo duration was the "unlimited" international calls as opposed to 3-400 mins.

        —- edit

hmmm … pretty sure I was also on the $20 p/m promo and the $40 p/m promo … LOL

  • Can I also get this $20 cable http://www.optus.com.au/shop/bundles/20-dollar-discount ?

This is what the critical info says:

    Bundling arrangements
You don’t need to bundle this plan with any other Optus service.
However, you might be able to get additional discounts if you have
    another Optus service.

Just wondering if the word "might" is an impediment?

  • im already on a month to month wit optus - but cant seem to figure out how to roll over into this deal? Looks like the optus website wants to process it as a new contract.

  • Also, considering Optus charge $10 per gigabyte, this is essentially the same as the previous deal listed in the OPs post.

  • -1

Correct me if I'm wrong but this doesn't seem to be any mroe different than the Optus $50/11GB promotion they currently have?

    • Well if you don't need over 10GB/month then this plan will save you $10/month….

    • +2

If you don't exceed 10gb a month, you save $10. You're not contractually bound to pay $50/month, just $40/month.

  • Last time this came around I managed to get it down to $26 a month using the student discount and bundle discount.

    $40 plan
    -$4 10% student discount
-$10 bundle discount for having Optus internet too

I had to do it through the chat though.

EDIT: looks like they've changed the bundle discount to $20 now, however, it will apply the discount on your internet bill instead.

    • I have the $89 phone/broadband bundle. Does that mean I can get this phone plan for only $16/month? Or it reduces the cost of the bundle?

      • Not exactly, if you get this phone plan and apply the student discount and bundle discount, the phone plan cost comes down to $36 a month (10% student discount) and your home phone/broadband bill goes down $20. But if you pay both these bills yourself, you could look at it as this being a $16 mobile phone plan.

  • i am with optus chat and this dude is telling me that you get 20 dollar discount on both mobile and broadband bundle each can anyone confirm that??

essentially they are asking me to recontact the home bundle too and get 20 dollar discount each on both service.

"OPTUS REP:You re-contract the Home Bundle you will get the $20 bundling discount on the Home Broadband and also $20 for discount for the sim only plan."

    • $10 mobile bundle discount no longer available

  • +3

Off-topic but I'm actually moving away from Optus after 8 years because they f#$! up the EPL with their 'optus customers only' BS.

This is still a good deal though.

  • i assume this plan does not qualify for EPL subscription?

    • I don't think anyone has a real idea of what optus will do until closer to the first day of kickoff.

I just hope their online streaming is better than foxtel go (which isn't HD and sucks).

    • No. Only 24-month plans are eligible except for only one $85 (!!!) month to month BYO plan.

Back to "illegal" streaming I guess :/

    • just confirmed with optus that any contracted plan will be eligible to have EPL subscription and HD only available through Fetch TV and Satellite only

  • I notice they state that you can share the data allowance amongst up to 5 phones.

Say if you had a 5 people who needed access to a phone, could you perhaps set it up to all share the 10gb (2gb is still good), and then use free call services like facebook, skype, and hangouts to get a very cheap phone plan ($8/person/month).

Does anyone know the tech behind such a route?

    • Note the data share sims have access to the included free txts. With this in mind you could go one better and stick to txts+data at no extra cost (beyond the once off $5).

Beyond that, yep, all correct - all sims have access to the data pool.

      • No, text can't be shared. Husband text his tablet, I got charged for it.

        • That's odd, it's shared on mine.

  • +1

Anyone price-matched at Voda or Telstra successfully?

    • I would also like to know. Does Telstra / Telstra Live Chat ever price match deals like this?

I'm on virgin which I believe is identical coverage to telstra, and I'm unhappy with the coverage/speed. I'd like to try telstra for 12 months…

      • edit: Virgin is identical coverage to optus

    • Tried but no go. Best they could offer was $50 5gb unlimited calls/text p/m. Would love this optus deal on a telstra network.

      • If you are a current vodafone customer, i think you can try again.

PS: I am on postpaid atm. Added another new number to my current plan for $45 for 10.5GB, bonus 500MB is for sharing plan or something as per Vodafone policy.

  • Anyone had success getting the student discount applied to two numbers under the same name/account? My partner's phone is under my name from previous billing arrangements.

    • +1

I've got 3 numbers on my account and chatting with an Optus rep through webchat he said it could only apply for 1 number. But I could choose which number it applied to. My mum calls international so I wanted her number to get the 300mins free.

  • What happened after 12 months? It is still 40 buck a month?

  • Anyone had been able to get a $5 data share Sim recently? Just tried and they say it's no longer available, have to sign up for a $10 per month data plan and then you can share.

    • Open the critical information summary (linked by OP) and quote it to them. Ensure they're aware of what plan you're on and they know it IS available on that plan. Worked for me.

      • I've tried 3 different stores and 3 separate live chats and they've made quite clear that the $5 data share sims promo has ended despite being written in the CIS.

  • +1

So this is like the old $40 Virgin plan but crappier because it's on contract?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/233199

    • Contact Optus chat for student discount ($36 rather than $40) if you have a UNIDAYS account.

  • +1

Note the contract states you have access to upto 5 data share sims at a one off cost of $5 each. Quote this to Optus in store if they try to get out of it - you're entitled to data share sims!

  • +3

I got this plan on the last deal for $24 a month.
10% off $60 for student coupon.
    $20 off online order.
    $10 off bundled plan.

    $60 - $6, - $20, - $10 = $24.
    Very happy =]

    • Are you sure that's correct? The 10% is meant to come off AFTER the $20, resulting in -$4 intead of -$6.

$2 different - still good value either way! I'm just curious if I'm getting a little ripped off paying $36 instead of $34. :p

      • Yea it was meant to be $26 but at checkout the price was displaying $24. Also confirmed my price with optus chat. You are being ripped off $2 a month…. That's alot of money lol

        • $24/year, damn… lol

  • Ha I just upgraded to their 7 gig plan for 40 bucks. Oh wells.

  • +1

Aldi needs to do better with the $35/m plan me thinks.

  • I did almost a price match for vodafone, am now getting $45 for 10GB sim only plan (new service/number provided), added to my current plan, so is sharing plan altogther. Compare with OPTUS click frenzy now, (ending in 10 hours time or something), this is extra $5 dollars but is Vodafone, if to those who wants Vodafone instead of Optus.

Now Vodafone is offering $50pm 10GB

    http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/sim-only/state/12-…

PS: I am currently on Vodafone postpaid plan, so I got this offer maybe due to I am a current customer, but you can always call before the Optus click frenzy ends and give it a try!

PS2: I tried Telstra but they can't. On live chat with them and was given $50 for 8GB instead, on Freedom plan or something, which I couldn't find on website. If you could, give me a help?

    Have fun matching!!!

  • Hi guys,
Is the Unidays code unique for each individual?

Unfortunately i am studying through LPAB anf unidays won't verify.

  • Does this work with the optus data sharing plans?

    • I reckon you call or go to store and request. Sometimes this staff say no, that staff will say yes. Is a guessing game, well at least for Vodafone.

  • Can anyone confirm if your current $10 bundle discount will carry over if you change to this plan? I have been told that it is no longer available and since I am not changing my broadband plan it will mean I won't get any discounts.

  • +3

Just signed up through optus online chat. Thanks for the deal.

With this $60 sim only plan, you will get unlimited calls, unlimited sms/mms, 10GB data & 300 minutes international calls (selected countries)
This is 12 months contract plan.If you signup now, you will get $20 discount. So this plan will cost you $40 per month.
After 12 months price will remain same ($40) with month to month contract.

  • Just rolled over from last click frenzy plan on month-by-month to this 12month deal. Did it on chat so I've got copy of what was said to me when they stuff up the future bills and dont apply credit properly.

Still got 6months left of my $10 TPG credit that I would have lost moving to anywhere else. End result is 2x$35/month per service for 12months for a shared pool of 20gb data + unlimited calls… no brainer!

  • Very tempting offer but I've got way too much credit built up on my Telstra prepaid service. Don't wanna lose all that by porting out!

    • +1

You can try selling the credit before porting out and activate the sim at a later date .

  • Sounds like a good deal. If u don't want to bundle with existing cable (re-enter contract, sucks…) and save 20 a month. This is the choice.

However, the 50/m SIM plan offers ever more data 9+2GB and 500 international mins which is funny (it's more expensive tho).

    • Just signed up for the plan, as an existing Optus Cable user, I got an additional $10 off the monthly bill (40-10)/m.

At the end of the 12 months plan, if we do nothing it'll remain 40/m and entitlements won't change either.

  • Optus have terrible coverage, FYI.
Expect drop outs and the inability to receive phonecalls.

  • Has Optus changed the home broadband plans recently? I'm on the $55 30GB Cable plan but seems like now they only have unlimited plans now.

  • Last November's deal was the better but now its expiring.
—50% off their $60 plan which has 7gb data, unlimited calls/sms and unlimited international calls.. all for $30

    I guess this will do.

    • Agreed, I've been on this plan since Dec and was also getting $10 bundle discount for Optus Cable at home … hence, only paying $20 / month. I know it is only for 6 months but haven't heard if the 50% off is going to end soon. Will cross this bridge when we get there I guess.

  • I just recontracted my home bundle from $120 down to $75 (FOR THE EXACT SAME PLAN) and now my wife's mobile drops another $10 and we get a larger data pool. Pretty satisfied.

  • I signed up to this deal last night on the online chat. I used my unidays code and the online rep agreed that it would be $36 per month.
I received an email with a link to my contract, and it says I've agreed to $60 per month. Does anyone actually have a contract saying $36, or do they all say $60?

    • +1

It says $60 in the initial page with 10% Student Offering

But scroll down to the CIS and it says $40 ($60 with monthly discount)

      http://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents/1418522_CIS_$60_My_Plan_Plus_12M_SIM_Only.pdf

      • Fair enough. I checked with Optus and they said it's all OK.

The contract which I apparently "signed" does say this, though:

Minimum recurring monthly charges for all your services in this order: $60
Supplementary charges for all services in this order: $0
Total one off costs for all services in this order: $0

TOTAL minimum cost over contract term(s): $720.

        • +1

Same here mate, that's what it says on mine too :) but just got my bill recently through Optus myAccount - $35.99 :) don't worry about the $60.

    • +1

My contract says the same. The student discount appears only on your bill and $20 off mentioned lower down in the contract.

  • +1

    Can we share Unidays codes?

  • Just changed to this deal from my current Optus plan.

    So I pay $30 per month ^_^

    • How do you get a $10 discount on this?

      • I have Optus Cable package so get bundle discount

  • +1

Just spoke to Optus over the phone. Ask to be transferred to Customer Service, not Sales, if you are an existing customer. My contract expires in September but they are willing to waive the early charges from June onwards and hold this offer for me. I had them email me to have it in writing of course. Sales were hopeless and said I was not eligible for it and wanted to recontract me an extra $10 per month for an extra 1.5gb…The guy I spoke to though via Customer Service was very helpful however. Awesome deal!

  • Data counted per MB according to online sales rep.

  • How about on a budget of $20 a month? I don't need 10gb a month. 2 is enough.

    • You can get 2GB for $20 on the Optus network. Internode offers 2 for $20; Jeenee offers 1.8GB for $18. You won't get unlimited calls for under $20, though - around $25 would be the price for that.

  • can someone PM me 2 unidays code please. Your help will be appreciated

    thanks

  • Anybody still looking for this plan .

Please shoot me an email on [email protected]

i can get the same deal for $40 .

    Thanks
