Looks like eBay and Myer are trying to get in on the whole VR thing and have 20,000 free cardboard like headsets to give away.
If you don't have one already may as well grab one or two…

    If Google Glass "made you look like a douchebag" I wonder what the critics will say of VR headsets when worn on public transport.

      The douchebag label has always been applied to early adopters. When bluetooth headsets were first introduced they had a very negative stereotype but now they are acceptable. Smartphones, iPods, music headphones, smart watches, Fitbits all started as niche but now they are absolutely everywhere.

      I'm optimistic and hope it catches on with the public. There are practical applications of the VR headsets. At least commuters can wear them to get better sleep wearing them as a hidden eye mask.

    I played with google cardboard before. The horror games on the android store made for this is awesome to play (especially with headphones on), really makes you scream and you've got nowhere to look but at the thing jumping at you, or you can just close your eyes.

    I went to the Sydney event and thought it a gimmick, but did get a free set of their cardboard glasses. The first two sets of vr glasses they gave me froze, so their software is still very buggy.
    If you've never used vr, like me, it's interesting but I must say I was expecting more and left a bit disappointed by the hype.

    It would be ok if you wanted to visit a department store with only a hundred or so products in it, because navigating was painful. There's no way to look really closely at the quality of the fabric in clothing - it was like being able to walk around a mannequin about 1-2m away and there was no way to compare two similar shirts side by side for example as you would in a real shop or in different Windows on your PC at home.
    To purchase, you enter your email via a clumsy visual keyboard that feels like you're pecking the keys with your nose. You're then supposed to take off the glasses and complete the purchase in the real world.
    I'll have to try the cardboard eBay shopticals with some other apps/YouTube and see if it's any better.
