I've never used Woolies Mobile, but I think $29 off a $30 starter pack is good value. $2 delivery for SIM packs, maximum 2 packs per order.

Bonus: new activations before 30 June get 6GB data (normally 2GB + current bonus 1GB) — details here

According to their Coverage page Woolies "uses parts of Telstra's 4G and 3G mobile networks".

Finishes 31 May, thanks @Sydney and @Obey

2. Online only
3. Delivery charge and max units per order
4. Added URL to how to get 6GB bonus
5. Clarifying 2GB data is normal for $30 recharge, additional 1GB data is a current bonus
6. Learning that I missed a lot of useful details!

The starter pack has to be activated within 3 months of purchase. thanks Sydney11

Maybe the three months expiry is some sort of tactic to prevent people stock piling?

  • Grabbed two, thanks OP.

  • +4

Just got off chat, agent confirmed:
    - Promotion ends 31st this month
    - 3 months expiry

    • +1

Thanks for checking the finish date, I updated the post.

  • I guess the expiry date on sim pack would be around Sep 2016, so they just say that.

  • i still have one start pack which expires sometime next year. don't know why this one has only three months.

    • Maybe older stock than yours that they have to clear out, hence this promo?

  • Does anyone know of any current deals for 3G broadband modems that would work with this? Great post OP. Bought 2. Hoping they honour it.

    • +1

Coles have the Vodafone Prepaid WiFi modem with 4gb data for $29.00, these come unlocked.
Also the Optus 3g usb modem for $9.00, not sure if it's unlocked.
      Last day is tomorrow.

  • What do people usually do with these? Do you swap out of your current mobile plan for one month then swap back?

    • +1

Use the data in a spare phone or usb modem.

    • +1

Put it in the second slot of a dual SIM phone. Use it for data. Hide origin number with CID disable (prefix #31#) when making calls.

  • Just changed to Aldi prepaid last months if I port my number to ww would I have to buy another $5 Aldi credit when I return after a month?

    • +2

You lose any current Aldimobile credit when you port out and will be a new customer to Aldimobile if you port back. Same as with any other telco.

    • +1

      @ausbob71

Yes you will…but that is the same with all ports (old sim will not work)

even after leaving in the freezer overnight ;)

err that is me joking there- under the dotted line.

Nice joke though. What do you leave in the freezer to revive? Eneloops?

      • +2

I gave you a +1 for the joke.

  • Hi, thanks OP , ordered 4 , can I put in the Vodafone pocketwifi bought last year from HN ? Thanks

    • Yes, they are unlocked but a bit complicated to change APN settings.

    • Probably, you need to check if it works on the Telstra network ( I would imagine it does) also you might have to unlock it (maybe not though). If you do have to get an unlock code get the manufacturer + Model# and ask the Bagman to help(search OZB for contact) for a small fee .

      • Thanks, I've used it with the 10G $70 data deal from Amaysim last year that expired few days ago, only 3G but enough for me , still looking for a deal on mobile data .

  • thanks OP

Does anyone have an experience porting out from telstra to woolworths given they also use telstra?

  • This is awesome currently using 30 recharge to call my folks who are overseas for a 3 month holiday. Works out to 15c a minute real money. 5 bucks will now give me 17 hrs of talk time. Couldn't care if numbers change

    • is that there international rate?

      • Zone 3 so $5/m funny money 200 min for $30 , or now 200min for 2 dollars ( I ordered 2 in my name 2 in girlfriends name)

By far the cheapest way for me to call 1c/m

Once the sims arrive ill order another 2 -4

  • Has anyone seen them at their local Woolies and checked for the expiry yet?

    • +2

Scanned at $30 at my local woolies

  • Got 2, excellent deal OP.

  • HAHA, gotta have a mobile number to order! What happens if you don't have a number at present?

    • +1

Just put in any contact number you have, work, GF, etc.

      home phone?

  • Questions for phone experts:
If I got a dual sim card and one sim is using Vodafone, can I use this Woolies sim although it is not Vodafone for internet/calls?
    Thanks

    • You mean dual SIM phone. Sure, the phone should allow you to select the SIM for data and the SIM for calls separately. Even on a per call basis for mine at least.

      • Yes, I meant dual sim phone. Thanks so much :)

  • +1

Thank you OP with the very imaginary username. It wasn't 2.30 am when you signed up was it?

Great deal, 12gb extra downloads over two months for $4.

  • Ordered two,thank you.

  • Ordered 2. Great deal, thanks OP!

  • +1

Telstra's $10/15 for 30 is still better as its credit can buy Google Play etc.

    • +10

Some people might not want google play credit?

      • I'm interested.

    • Where is the link?

      • +2

Find a chain and you have found a link.

        • -5

That's a pretty childish answer. If you don't have the answer then please don't reply.

        • +5

          @PW:

          Sorry it is damn proverb

          here is your link
          google.com.au

        • +2

          @PW:
I actually found it quite amusing, perhaps you need a sense of humour.
Also some manners wouldn't go astray. Ever heard of 'please'?

      • +2
    • So you would definitely get $30 on google play? Would this be the same for the Apple App Store?

      • +1

no, unfortunately Apple are backwards and don't allow carrier billing.

  • -1

Ordered two for me and gf, see how they go for a month, I know woolworths data blocks suck and it s half the amount listed etc but how's coverage compared to norm telstra?

  • Can use this without ID?

    • No.

    • +12

Why? Do you have an embarrassing last name Fanny?

      • -7

fyi crims have access to all ID info in Australia phone system, I dont want them have it

        • +11

Might be better off spending your $3 on some tinfoil hats then.

        • +2

Hell the biggest crims are the Govts (wasting our money on multiple letters from your local member spouting crap etc…)

    • With online activation, you can use anyones's ID.
They do not actually check to see you look like the photo, or even physically posses the ID.

Its a pointless, total joke, but complies with gov't regulations.

      • yes but a legal way to activate without ID is preferable, could be done in the past

  • Ordered 2. And now….we wait.

    Thanks OP

  • Once I activate the sim, is there an expiry date?

    • +1

30 days to use the credit. Once Your Credit has expired, You will be able to use Your Prepaid Mobile Service to
receive incoming Calls and text for the next 90 days only but You will not be able to make
outgoing Calls, text or data sessions.
This should be added to the description.

      • Cheers.
I've never used prepaid before and this will be great for extra data and possibly the AFL app

      • I thought that once the credit's are used you have 180 days before the card and number expire and no longer useable. Not 90 days.

  • +2

    It's web site say " not available " ?????

    Seems no longer available…

At 6743+ clicks, I declare this deal #OZBARGAINED!

nice work Team OZB, it took just over 12 hours from the original post to smash that one!

What's the cheapest 4g Mobile phone I can purchase to use data for my PC?

    • Alcatel pixi 4.5 4g from Coles. Alcatel - When you absolutely positively want the cheapest nastiest piece of shit phones money can buy, accept no substitutes.

      • I just bought one. Immediately it looks like cheap build quality. But, it's the only phone or tab I've ever heard, with ok sound quality without headphones. Handy feature.
Works ok for everything I've checked. Startup is slow.
$35 for 4G carry anywhere spare phone is A1 choice IMO.

      • Cheers.

  • Is the 6GB limited to use for one month or does it last until all 6GB gets used up?

    • +1

You have 30 days from activation to use up your 6GB

  • Just to confirm, this is basically a $30 recharge right? So you get $1000 calls, unlimited sms and 3gb or 6gb if activated before June 30

    • +2

That's how I understand it. At least, I know that's how Telstra's $30 Pre-Paid SIMs work, and believe this works the same.

  • I ordered but I didn't receive a confirmation email?
Am I going to miss out?

    • I think they stopped this deal because of a software bug to do with addresses
So they are just going to send people a conformation when it ships
So maybe when they fix the bug this deal may go live again
      Maybe

      • u maybe rite but the $2 sim is still working at there.

  • Since this uses telstra network, I can use a telstra device right?

    • yep

  • That sucks so much, I was just going to order it and it says NOT AVAILABLE!

  • For anyone that may be reading I've been on woolworths mobile since 2012 I think and I'm still getting 3G. Do I need one of the newer sims to get 4G capability?

    • @Mysterious

You will not get 4G unless very very lucky i think reading your post you are on the "old" woolies mobile via OPTUS
i have that sim also and Optus will only move me to 4G IF i sign up to a newer more expensive prepaid plan.

The old plan is 5GB Data 45 days yeah ? (29 dollars)

Haven't recharged for a while but they sent me a txt saying i will qualify for spotify streaming if i recharge $30 next time.

      • +2

Yes I have that one too. No point going to the new expensive plans, our current one is the best.

    • Heard if you do a sim swap with optus 4G starts working, might just be rumour though. No harm in trying though.

  • +1

Just when I finished work and wanted to order this now it's already been OzBargained 10 hours ago. I thought it was a week-long deal. Well, you work you lose, I guess. :(

    • same boat… well it was because I procrastinated for too long.
      Hopefully they will release more…

  • Woolworths thinking this will boost them and their mobile services long term. na ah most will just chuck out the sims after the data is used

    • shush .. woolworths is listening

      • nah i wouldnt say that, looks more like a publicity stunt, if anything it will get people talking about the service amidst the tough competition in the prepaid MVNO sector. I'm sure there'll be a fair few who stay on and recharge/use the service, and of course those who just take the one-time offer and run.

If anyone bought a card for their relative/friend, I dont think their relative/friend would be savvy enough to hop carriers simply recharge the service in 30 days time. Considering all the other schmucks have gone to a 28day model, the woolies deal isnt too bad @ 30days + any rewards points you might get.

  • +1

Most would never have tried woollies mobile otherwise and some will stick with it, if only out of convenience, especially if they keep the special going like originally intended
If they sign up 100 000 and a quarter recharge, that's a fair chunk of the market they scored in one go
And if they do a better data deal they will get an even bigger share
    Economy of scale
If woollies can just keep their greed in check

  • +2

David: We are unsure exactly when this will be just yet unfortunatey. We ran out of stock due to unforeseen demand and do not have a currently date of when we will have more in.

No, don't know why that would be….
