Jetstar Birthday Sale FREE Return - Travel in Oct-Dec and Jan-Mar + MEL-Honolulu $339 Return + Further extended to Asian cities

3960

This is their birthday sale, details in the link.

Some sample ones are
+ Melb - Bali $199 - $219 return
+ Melb - SIN $199 - $249 return
+ Melb/Syd - Honolulu - $339 return (despite the sale fare advertised at $359, I found many dates in Mar with lower price)

** Jetstar website has been ozbargained now. You can use mobile site to search and book ticket **
http://m.jetstar.com

EXTENDED TO ASIAN cities on return sale fare:
- This is NOT a price error, this is how Jetstar system pricing works.

The basis of this sale is that return ticket is FREE and one of the sales route is MEL/SYD/… - SIN and because return leg of SIN - MEL/SYD/… is $0 so if you search ANY destination from Australia which has connecting flight in Singapore, the return leg is just the cost of flight from that destination (mostly Asia) to Singapore which is really cheap. All you need to do is find the cheap departure date and make sure the return flight is within the sale period of Singapore sale period.

This will also apply to HKG, SGN, KUL (~$16AUD return to Mel for example) or ANY destination that is connecting via SIN. For future reference, if the sales includes Bangkok then the same concept will apply for any destination with connecting flight via Bangkok.

Your departure flight DO NOT need to be within the sale period as long as your RETURN flight is within the sale period, you will see $0 fare for return flight

Note:

  • If you book more than 1 tickets, SEPARATE the booking if possible because you will receive $25 Jetstar hotel voucher for EVERY Itinerary booked. So if you book 2 tickets on 1 itinerary you will only receive 1x $25 Jetstar voucher. Voucher expires in 2 weeks. So that’s $25 “cashback“ of your cheap flight. You can use that to book hotels.
  • Just for future reference voucher only issued for flights depart from Australia. Remember to pay using PoLi because Direct Deposit sometimes doesn't get you voucher like it happened to me last time I booked.

  • Since last year, Jetstar/ Airasia has changed the rule and it cost more to add luggage later. So if you need check in luggage, you'd better add it when book your ticket. The cons is if you forfeit your ticket you will lose this as well.

  • This may be for useful for someone, Jetstar also has 30kg check-in luggage for the price of 25kg together with this sale. I just checked and it only applies to some routes even though the email states that it applies to JQ flight.
    i.e Mel-DPS has the same price for 25kg and 30kg but MEL-SIN doesn't.

  • You DO NOT need Club Jetstar Membership to book these fares, so do NOT waste your money. Just book from the link in this post !!!

  • Use PoLi / Direct Deposit payment method to avoid credit card fee.

Thanks to GearUp
You can book Melbourne Airport Parking with 10% off coupon JETSTAR, make sure you check and compare the price. Melbourne Airport Parking is actually cheaper than those parking company around the airport so check and compare the price first before you book.

Baggage is a killer though 70 bucks for 40kg plus 50 bucks cc fee (which at least gets us the insurance)

    • +2

If you're with CBA (and probably the other majors), you no longer need to buy your flights with your gold/platinum credit card, just logon to Netbank and enter your dates and destination/s.

$400 return Syd to Bali including exit rows both ways + CC fee. Not too bad :) Would have been cheaper by $90 but chose the more expensive flight to arrive at lunch time rather than midnight.

Wasn't on planning to go back to Bali but the wife will be in Canada at the time so may as well go on a boys trip.

    • maybe you can try "Rasa Sayang" party at the infamous Bounty Hotel… lol… They have drink contest and "t*ts for the boys and d*cks for the chicks" kinda games… hehe… Their included all you can drink is lousy though, doesn't seems to have any alcohol in it.

      • -1

        They have drink contest… hehe…

Yeah, lol, hilarious, just like your remnant brain stem.

      • Last time I was in Bali our plane was delayed 12 hours. I decided to go stay the night at the Elephant Safari Lodge with my then gf. My mate who was holidaying with us wanted to 'party' and booked in at the bounty.

He complained about the noise all night hahahaha

  • How much is the fee if you can get a refund?

  • Thanks. Brisbane to Whitsundays for 2 people for $235 return.

  • Syd - hawaii return nov with emergency exit seats $568 return cheers op! Oh and baggage.

  • Thanks OP!
    Again,,, Bali :D

  • this will sell out so fast

  • +1

Can't seem to get through the booking process

  • Thanks OP, I booked 2 tickets Melbourne to Singapore return 27/1- 10/2 for $752, including baggage, cc fees etc. Great price for travel during Chinese new year. I also got a $25 dollar accommodation voucher which I put to good use.

    • Good to hear you got the voucher, you could of got another if you booked the flights separately.

      • But booking separately means you will no longer be automatically seated together. You will then have to buy allocated seats which kinda offsets the hotel voucher.

        • You can be seated together if you check in together at the airport.

        • @samehada: no, it is not necessarily true… Jetstar may separate the seats if the passengers are not in one itinerary. It happened to me once from SYD to MEL.

        • +2

I normally choose my seats as soon as web check-in is open, and get my travelling partner to do it at the same time, were able to get seats right next to each other every single time, no charge. And yes different itineraries too :)

        • +1

@kungfupanda: well, you can request but it may not be available.

  • +1

good prices but dates not good 😭 and no bris to hawaii

    • bris to NZ and Bali only. $199 return bali.

  • Thanks heaps, OP! Was in need of some October fares and this saved me a bunch of $$$. 267 $$$ in fact!

  • Wish they could strap on some auxiliary fuel tanks, drop some passengers (weight) and fly to LA and back at this price.

    • +2

Just buy a return ticket from Honolulu to LAX then you can visit both places. Search on skyscanner to see if you can find any deal. It is usually cheaper if you book Mel-LAX sale for $799-$899

  • -

  • +1 for a great deal. Have gotten to Hawaii for the same price before with Jetstar. No brainer!

  • how do you get the $25 voucher? is it sent to you once you pay for flights?

    • also, how do you get seated together if you book separately?

    • +1

Yes, you receive it together with your itinerary email, just check in together and request to be seated together at the check in counter

  • Thanks OP! Booked the family holiday to the Gold Coast.

  • Thanks OP - Booked for Hamilton Island in November for $250 return (this is not advertised)

  • I have flights from Melb - Honolulu on hold. Is there a way to take this bargain a step further? Is there a way I could go to STA or Flight Centre and get them to price match and maybe offer some kind of seat upgrade maybe? Or possibly another airline matching the deal? I know it's a long shot but I figure I would check.

  • Did anyone skip luggage and then try to add later? It's 4 of us traveling but we only need 3 luggage yet they are forcing me to buy for all 4. I did a recent jetstar flight where I was able to choose for each passanger quantity and weight after I had booked. Is this the case here or i'm going to get shafted with having to pick all and pay a lot more.

    • +2

Yeah I had that issue the way to get around that is to split into 2 bookings. Use one lot for the luggage (60kg total or whatever) and use the other lot for hand luggage only. This may help you next time but for this time if you've booked without luggage it could be expensive now to add it post booking.

    • +1

Jetstar/Airasia and maybe other budget airlines too changed it last year, if you add luggage later it will cost more than if you add it at ticket booking. You can just split the booking and add luggage separately and get 2x $25 hotel vouchers.

  • Thanks just got return flights with extra baggage etc for 2 to Hawaii for about $900. Awesome ozbargain honeymoon!!!

  • My GF and I are looking to travel to Honolulu in June/July next year.

    How rare are these deals?

    • +8

Let me calculate how often a birthday occurs and I'll get back to you.

      • +1

        gold

    • +1

Peak season is 20th June to 15th July

Expect to pay full price within these dates, School Hols.

  • +1

Well crap, now i search and just get thrown back to the main booking page, can't see deals. anyone else seeing this issue?

    • Yes, I got diverted.. and now i'm in some sort of queue..

  • Anyone have this issue with the app on Android:

    • Multiple bookings placed on app with payment to be made by direct deposit.
    • App doesn't show bookings placed on the my bookings page.
    • No email notifications sent for the bookings.
    • To answer my own question, it looks like the Android app had no history of my placing multiple bookings.

While I was waiting for 45 minutes for a call back from support, I placed another booking on the app because the web site didn't allow me to place a booking for over an hour, i took note of the booking number, and made a direct deposit immediately.

As for the other booking I placed on Sunday night, I guess jetstar don't need the sale and I couldn't be arsed making another booking.

Today when I started the app again, it crashed again lol

  • hawaii is so cheap not the dates im going though for my 21st if only it was in november!

  • Thanks OP! Booked two tickets to Melb from Bris in Nov. Can anyone recommend where i should be staying (in the CBD?) and absolute must do things, only got 3 days.

  • booked Hobart for next year! thanks

In case some people didn't know, if you want to get Credit Card points or travel insurance with your credit, but don't want to pay the CC surcharge, you can do the following:

Make sure you have an online Jetstar account first, so sign up, it's free.

    1. Find your desired flights
    2. At payment stage, choose "Direct Debit". This will hold your seats for 48 hours.
    3. Buy Jetstar voucher for denomination closest to the cost of your flights, don't go over (unused credits are forfeited)!
    4. Wait for your voucher to arrive.
    5. Once your voucher arrives, log into your Jetstar account, you'll see your pending booking there
    6. Click on that pending booking, and proceed to make payment
    7. Pay with your Jetstar voucher. (Pay the rest with Poli if your Jetstar voucher doesn't cover the full cost)
    8. And you are done :)

Bought flights to Bali using the above method, and on two separate itineraries too to get 2 x $25 hotel vouchers. Very happy.

    Thanks OP! Upvoted :)

    • How long did the Voucher take to arrive?

      • Mine took 6 hours.

But given that I secured my tickets with DD for 48 hours, it didn't really concern me :)

        • Thanks!

    • Can i stack multiple vouchers? The highest denomination is $500 and my flight costs $915

      • I'm not sure, you could try and report back to us.

      • I don't think so.

I know you can't on the jetstar hotels site (so really no point splitting the flight bookings to get more than one $25 voucher, unless of course you're booking multiple hotels (or multiple separate nights at the same hotel))

      • +1

I just tried, you can stack multiple vouchers on flight bookings.

    • -1

Please note that payment cannot be split between different payment methods except for voucher and a credit/debit card.

      • +1

Nah. I was able to pay with a voucher and POLI. So were my friends.

You could also pay with voucher and CC, however it will incur the CC surcharge.

Unless of course you're talking about payment for the voucher itself, as opposed to payment for the airfare.

    • If you paid with gift voucher and Poli then how can you qualify for free travel insurance?

      • I'm with ANZ, to qualify for travel insurance, I just need to demonstrate that I have spent a minimum of $250 on travel expenses.

A Jetstar voucher that went towards a flight qualifies.

I did it last year and was able to claim when I missed my flight home (that's another epic story).

  • Thanks OP, return to Bali ex Adelaide for $245.

  • Thank you OP for sharing this link and to all the posts that said you could get it without the my jetstar membership +111111
Great deal. Very rare for Brisbane to get the crazy cheap deals, first time I've scored one. We are about to go to bali in a couple of weeks but it was too good to pass up.
I booked bris to bali October 19-29th 2 adults and a child for $630…insane! Have to add luggage and possibly seats later as need cash for upcomi g holiday.
I Booked with poli but didn't get my voucher??
Does anyone know how you chase it up? Obviously don't want to stuff up my booking.

    • it can often take up to 48hrs

    • +1

My hotel voucher came 2 minutes before my actual flight itinerary!

Check your mailbox again? Maybe it's in spam.

      • It was booked at 5am…ive just looked again through all the trash spam..nothing. weird.

  • +2

For those parking at Melbourne Airport, use promo code JETSTAR on the Melbourne Airport website for 10% off.

    http://melbourneairport.com.au/to-from-the-airport/airport-p…

Very cheap airport parking if book online. Got 2 weeks for $53!

    • how did you get 2 weeks for $53? I m getting around $70 for 10 days.

  • website seems to be having troubles at the moment

  • Thanks OP. Friend is going to QLD from Perth for a family holiday in November and this deal saved them $1000.

  • +1

Jetstar website is slow now and sometimes the search just got redirected to Booking page. I used Incognito mode and it works, so maybe try to clear your cache if you have issues.

    • +1

The mobile site still works fine if you're having trouble with the website.

  • $319 Brisbane to Honolulu return.
    27 oct - 8 Nov.

  • I haven't been able to find MEL to Honolulu for that price.
    Anyone else ?

  • +2

A much simpler method (than using vouchers) of avoiding the credit card fees is here:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/229970

You don't even need to enter a fake US address, just select USD from within skyscanner, opt to pay on the Jestar site and the final payment screen will show no fee for CC / Paypal (even AMEX).

    • "glassyan on 23/05/2016 - 22:33 new
Patched now, you can no longer use the Jetstar US site to book flights that does not start from USA :(

Tried both the skyscanner method and the ?culture=en-US method, both method now redirects to the main US page with no ability to book Australian flights on the US site."

      • +1

I just used it then and it worked for me, and also did a few weeks ago.

  • Is the $25 voucher still available? I couldn't find any mention of this on the Jestar site.

  • Is there any reason why the $0 return prices dont show up? Could it be sold out and that's why a higher return price is shown?

I was looking at dates for Honolulu in February but cant see any $0 return prices (The $359 departure price is still there). They were there last night and earlier today.

    • +2

If there's no $0's showing there are no free returns left in that period.

  • Hi all, just a heads up. It was cheaper for me to book through Expedia for a Queenstown Hotel + Flight package deal than it was going to be to buy from Jetstar sale directly and then book hotel via au.hotels.com/jetstar or equivalent (even taking into account $25 hotel Jetstar voucher).

I believe Expedia are honoring the $0 return fare so it's worth checking out

  • have a flight on hold, but want to change the departure date. is there a way to do this? the return date is no longer available for free returns, but i would like a new departure date.

  • Thanks OP, didn't really have any plans for Cup Day in Nov (other than some time off work) so I'll go visit NZ.

  • I wonder how long its going to be on hold for, paid two days ago via bank deposit
