  • Just 10%…

    • +20

      It's usually 0%

      • what are you buying?

    • I saw these great clearance items which i can grab with 7.5%-discounted egiftcard. Now another 10% off… Awesome!

    • +10

Agreed, it's almost reminiscent of what Dick Smith used to do….almost.

      • -4

Could this be because it's the same company?

        • +2

Woolworths owns big w. No association to dick smith

        • "What dick smith used to do"

        • +4

@Slo20: Woolies used to own dick smith and then was sold off.

        • @Slo20: Woolworths did own Dick Smith a few years ago.

      • +1

New Dick Smith. Let's integrate them.

        Big Dick… Smith W.

    • +16

Still better than that Myer ebay 'sale'.

  • No gift cards

  • +5

    Telstra recharge?

    • Good plan! Anyone else know why telstra recharge would / would not work?

      • If it doesn't work ask the manager to make it work. It's not excluded.

A few years ago I bought 4 x $30 recharge vouchers from Woolies to qualify for a $15 discount off $100 in store with a barcode coupon with no problems.

      • Telstra recharge works… Did it through self checkout and staff member had a voucher ready as it didn't scan from phone … Paid with woolies giftcard too

      • Ok it would have worked but they don't sell the $140 recharge data pass (boo).

  • +4

And as usual, no online sale on Big from-the-stone-age W. Plus, all the stuff worth buying has been excluded. To the left, BW.

    • +1

But I'm pretty sure big w online and in store are run from like two different suppliers? So they're almost two different stores

      • +2

Well, every other major store in Australia has an online store and both stores function fine like any other online+in-store business in the world. I don't see why Big W seems to have difficulties with that, unless this is a business tactic of theirs, i.e. to make people visit their stores etc.

        • +1

I think the big w one operates almost entirely separately
Like 2 completely different businesses. Which is why they often have different prices

        • +3

Some sections of the big w website are fulfilled on consignment by outside companies. The "entertainment" and online photo services definitely are.
          https://www.bigw.com.au/partners/Movies%20and%20Games%20Plus
It is the reason why they often have different prices.

        • @sigh: I see. Thanks for the 411, sigh.

        • +1

@Rail Rider95: Yeah I think EzBuy runs the online store?

Ages ago when there was that $10 off $20 coupon thing we all figured this out.

  • +2

I am hoping their contact lens solution is included in the 20% off.
That will make it a pretty good bargain.
    Time to stock up….

  • -7

What about egift cards? Just purchased an item today for daughter birthday which is a few months away but got today incase no stock.
If i had known about this would i have got another 10% off.
Already gained 5% on egift cards and wondering if i could have further 10%

    • +2

No gift cards means no gift cards. eGift Cards are still gift cards.

      • -3

Ok even though 10% is still better than the 5% egift card gave.

    • +5

do you mean, could you have used your e-gift card to buy your daughter's present? if that's what you mean, assuming it was not an excluded item, yes you could have. if you're bothered, buy the item again on sale, and return the original. they should give you a 'return card'

      • -2

        A return card?

It was kids bike practical purchased it today with egift card which was 5% off and now this with 10% off.
So could i have had 15% off if i had waited till weekend?

  • +6

    10% off Storewide

    It's not storewide…

    • +19

I guess "10% off everything except the stuff most people would actually be interested in" doesn't have quite the same ring to it :)

  • +6

so if the deal is so meh why is it getting upvoted so much

    • +2

      sockpuppets…

      • +11

People are suckers for those sockpuppets.. Do you have a link to the particular ones on sale?

  • +1

Clearance & previously discounted goods excluded too, I presume?

    • +2

They're typically included in these sort of deals.

  • Could be some alright deals on games if they have any new releases at $69 less 10%, etc..

edit - did a few checks, and seems like nope. no deals. Here's a prime example, $99 in-store, $69 on website.

  • +5

Buy egift card -5% discount and then use coupon so 15% off - better than nothing

    • +1

14.5% off but yes doubling up will work.

    • Yep. A few good buys, depending what you want. If there's a book you're after they're already 40% discounted (off RRP), take another 10% and then some more with an egift coupon and chances are it'll beat the price anywhere else (likewise catalogue sale video games etc).

  • +1

I use this to buy a bunch of $30 optus recharges for two woolies mobile (the old ones with optus).
Pay with an e-gift card (have plenty of cards from groupon when they had 10% off).
$30 recharge - $27 after F and F discount. Pay with e-gift card (up to another 10% off) - $24.3 for $500 call and text credit / 7 GB data over 45 days.
Data rolls over if recharge in time.
    Thanks OP

    • why you dont get the starter pack for $10 and 5% egift come to $9.5 for 28 days 3 GB? no need roll over

    • +2

That sounds like a lot of effort for $6

      • I have this plan on two phones and buy up to 10 to 12 vouchers for two phones. The vouchers have a 12 mth expiry so this sorts out mobile phones for my partner and I for 8+ months

  • +1

So many exclusions, Maybe it would be easier if they listed what they do include in the sale ?

    • Haha Big W is the new Dick Smith.

  • +1

    is game excluded?

  • -2

Samsung excluded. Fail. No wonder why Masters went broke and their former Dick Smith subsidiary collapsed

    • -1

Dick Smith collapsed long after it has been sold off by WW to an investment firm.

  • +1

Would it stack with the 30% off blurays?

  • Time to buy some bulk TP

    • Woolies has 3 packs of quiltons for $11, which might be a better option for Tp.

      • +1

The Woolies website shows 3 packs for $9.99 for me. 8 rolls in each pack. 41.625c per 190 sheet roll.

Big W has 48 packs of Kleenex Cottonelle for $18 after the discount. 37.5c per 180 sheet roll.

        • +1

Cottonelle is prone to breakages, so you will need to use more. At least that's the case for me.

    • tampons?

  • Never done this before - does one just scan the barcode above then the barcode of whatever eligible item you're buying and u get 10% off, even if you're not staff? And does this work at the self checkout counter?

    • Yes, just print and scan. It will also work at self serve checkouts

    • +2

In my experience (North Lakes Big W) they just keep a photocopied at the registers.
All you gotta do is say OH! Friends and family discount and then they scan it right there.

I usually have the PDF on my phone ready to go though.

  • Thanks Fury

  • it says no gaming consoles, but how about the accessories such as the xb1/ps4 controllers etc

  • What about prepaid mobiles?
    Optus Oppo F1 for example?

  • +4

If you're using a self serve checkout this weekend, do the kind thing and pass on your printout onto the next customer. I did last time. They were pleasantly surprised and welcomed the discount.

    • Last time they had this offer - they were handing the print out to everyone who walked in at the store I attended (which I thought was kind of a weird)

    • Chances are whatever they're buying will be excluded from the sale ;)

  • +3

    Phone is fine?

  • Will I be able to use this at BigW in conjuction with a price match from another store?

  • Great bargain…

  • Hmm..So, it excludes consoles but does that also mean games for said consoles?

    • Games are fine.

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • Thinking of getting the 55" Polaroid LED TV that's in the current catalogue as a second TV. Listed as $569 so will work out to $512. Anybody had any experiences with it? We're using it purely for TV, might attach a media player/chromecast to it.

    • +1

You missed out on the $419 Platinum and $349 Onix from Target :(

    • +2

I tried shaking it. No good.

  • Vodafone recharge?

    • +1

Telco recharges are probably excluded. But no harm in trying.

I may go today and will report back if I manage to get 10% on a Telstra recharge.

      • Any update on this? Thanks for sharing mate!

        • +1

Yes, got a $50 Telstra for $45. All good.

  • -6

    You know, sometimes OzBargain sucks!

  • File not downloading :(

  • Anyone try with a gift card?

    • I did and it doesn't work

  • thanks

  • ie buying a gift card

    • There's no reason why there should be a problem. It's a valid payment method. The gift cards aren't discounted so it's not like you're gonna buy them.

  • Does the 10% discount apply in practice? I know it's excluded in the terms and conditions but they don't always apply in practice.

  • -1

Sorry I mean has anyone tried getting a 10% discount on gift cards?

  • Just went to use at Cumberland Park SA and the cashier had a voucher ready to scan at the till
